I cut the cord many years ago. Went strictly Internet. Called Rogers one day and said, "My contract is up, cancel my home phone, cell phones (2), cable and Internet." They went ballistic when I wouldn't tell them who I went with so they could match. The rep actually proclaimed in the most arrogant tone imaginable, "You'll be back!" Ha! Never went back and don't miss them at all.

When I was with Rogers in Toronto (cable & cell) I was constantly amazed at their poor customer service and their arrogant and unpleasant attitude. Until I called to quit: that was the most pleasant attitude ever conveyed by a Rogers rep in my 16~ years with them.

Yes and the TV numbers have been good. I would imagine TSN will be paying more than the 40 million they did in the last deal.

My great fear is SportsNet will win the contract and they’ll expose cfl fans to the worst collection of play-by-play and colour announcers while placing them second fiddle to nba and leaf events.

"We apologize for the delay in the Winnipeg - Saskatchewan playoff game. Well return after our hourlong analysis of the horrendous Austin Matthews hangnail injury."

Perhaps a better way of expounding upon and bringing this into context would be considering some past posts made about Nichols in regards to his deep throw abilities.  For example, last year or some time in the past I was seeing posters continue a rumor that the Esks dropped Nichols off their roster in our hands because they did not like his deep ball abilities.  The problem is, no links or hard concrete evidence was ever posted to support this rumor which makes me have trouble buying it.

Problem is, it appeared that the rumor was continued, and hence some posters would conclude based on buying it that Nichols would always be bad at throwing deep balls.  So hence, while not actually using that specific word, one could infer that their notion is Nichols would be permanently bad at throwing them.

I was of the opinion Nichols resisted the long ball because he feared being intercepted. I’ve noted Nichols protects the bejesus out of his passes, much preferring to throw it away than risk getting intercepted. I don’t know if there are stats on this, but I’d not be surprised to hear Nichols threw the fewest long balls than most cfl quarterbacks.

I wonder if the location of the stadium makes a dent for the amount of people going?

I still see many comments in the Winnipeg Free Press from some incredibly bitter people about the location. Personally, I lived in river heights and I hated the polo park location. Parking was always a beeyach as was traffic exiting. I wonder if those who complain about parking and traffic today overlook yesterday’s problems. I don’t want this thread to get derailed so I’ll leave it at that.

Like tracker said, the new stadium is so much an improvement, I can’t imagine the current location has a significant impact on attendance.

  5. Curious to see if there is any chance the success of the Jets, the return of the Moose and the Goldeyes impacts Blue Bomber attendance? I read an infuriating comment on another board ridiculing Bomber attendance. Don’t get me wrong, the Blue Bombers are third in CFL attendance this season @26k~/average per game. FOOD FOR DISCUSSION.

Jets 2017/2018: 628,161 fans @$120 average ticket price (guess)

Moose 2017/2018: 200,526~ fans @$20 average ticket price (guess)

Goldeyes 2017: 219,556~ fans @$20 average ticket price (guess)

  6. I don't recall reading a single complaint about traffic last week. Everyone I spoke with that attended said traffic wasn't a problem. That said, I lived in river heights and fort rouge when I first went to bomber games 35+ years ago and remembered traffic and parking always being a problem at polo park.

It is nigh time Winnipeggers quit whining about the location and the traffic.

Ditto asper. It is quite possible Winnipeg might not even have a new stadium to ***** about without him.

  7. Not sure why I need a lesson in context. My comment was based on one player's goal.

We have a horrible habit of diminishing our successes and blowing up our opponents successes.

I happens on this and other Blue Bomber forums, Jets forums, the comments section in newspapers... AND, the media in this city.

  8. Trouba's goal was a good play. He made a great head's up play to read and intercept an Oiler pass and drove across the blueline to unload his shot. A knuckler. It fooled Dubnyk.

  9. Parking on campus has been disappointing to say the least. Especially now that they have cut back on spots.  There are very few options to park within a 10 minute walk, and if it's more than that, you might as well just find a place on Pembina to park anyways.

I've only been to two games but both times were were just across the street from the stadium, perhaps a 3 minute walk.

  10. The location is just fine. People need to get over it. Especially those not paying for the stadium.

Most people I've spoken with have discovered the park and rides are excellent travel options. The rapid transit/train argument is somewhat specious. The buses are direct and usually take 20 - 30 minutes. Not a big deal.

If listening to a post game show is the difference-maker the Japanese invented a great new technology: a portable radio.

  11. Would you rather no sponsors and have to pay more to attend games?

I think I'd rather have a government corps use this as a tax break and aleviate some of the cost on the fans.  If not ticket prices would likely soar forcing fans to stay home.  And you don't HAVE to use MB hydro.  You could pay Saskpower to come install a line to your house if you really want! :)

    Tax break? For who?

There is no other way to think about this than the taxpayer paying out of one pocket for the taxpayers share of this stadium and paying out of the other pocket for the crown corporations share of this stadium.

There is only one taxpayer. This is nothing more than a sneaky government subsidy.

Ticket prices soar? Probably not so much. Pretty sure private industry would have stepped forward. Probably not as lucrative as the bottomless wallet of the ndp.

  12. Are you whispering because you're not sure? Yes, the feds insisted the stadium be built at the U of M to make it look like they weren't funding a pro sports team. But you know there's no way the provincial government would have funded a 33.000 seat stadium if it was just for the Bisons. So, what you're saying is a stretch. Biiiiiiiiiiiiig stretch. Funds were moved around. Things were said.... These are politicians we're talking about here. How can that even be compared to the 2015 Pan Am Games & the funding model used for a stadium in Hamilton?

Your logic makes no sense.  Why would they build a stadium in Hamilton for the Toronto Pan Am Games?  Maybe because they have a CFL team to use it?  They could have built it at any number of locations in the region and used it for amateur sport.

The new Hamilton stadium IS being built exclusively due to the Pan Am games.

No kidding.  It is Toronto's Pan Am Games.  They could have built it at Downsview, they could have built it in Mississauga, Markham, any number of locations or cities in the region.  They could have chosen to build a temporary facility to hold the soccer games that didn't fit at BMO.  I wonder why they chose Hamilton, and to build it up to CFL football specifications.  Why?

Ontario to Stage a World-Class Pan Am and Parapan Am Games in 2015

Province Launches Strategy to Create a Lasting Pan Am and Parapan Am Games Legacy

    August 28, 2013

Ontario is launching its Pan Am and Parapan Am Games Promotion, Celebration and Legacy Strategy to increase the economic benefits and support them in becoming the People's Games.

The Games and Games-related investments will create more than 26,000 jobs – a boost of 11,000 jobs from an earlier assessment, and grow Ontario's real GDP by $3.7 billion from 2009 to 2017.

  13. I wonder how much the problems were exacerbated when the province insisted the construction go to a Manitoba company rather than an international company who had experience building large stadiums & arenas? Trying to keep everything local end up delaying everything & making the project more expensive?

The province didn't take over until Asper had the plans laid out. He insisted on the local architect who had zero experience with this type of facility, likely why the building is more form over function for football fans and flawed with obstructed views and tiny concourses. The construction went to a company that is pretty prominent throughout Canada, as did most of the sub work.

The "tiny" concourses are likely more an effect of cost than an inexperienced architect IMO. The notion the concourses are too small has been discussed ad nauseum. I think the size of concourses at most arenas and stadiums is always too small. As for obstructed views, there is not a single sports facility that does not have some obstructed view seats. Even the vaunted Dallas Cowboys stadium has obstructed view seats.
