CFL - 2023 Regular Season - Discussion Thread

amazing... I wish there was an archive with Bob Irving's call of that game. I'd love to listen to the second half... ha ha. -
Blue Bombers - 2023 Regular Season - Discussion Thread

I know we've talked about this a bunch, but I'm not sure I realized that Collaros turned 35 on Sunday. For some reason I was thinking he was still like 32 or 33. So he'd be 37 if he makes it through his current contract... how old was Calvillo when he retired....about the same? It's definitely impressive to be a pro athlete excelling like he is right now, considering that age, and some of the hard miles he's got on him. -
Former Bombers in NFL (and spring leagues) news

even if he just came back to play Teams and sub in a bit in the secondary for the back half of the season, that'd be outstanding. Is he still technically "ours" if he wants to come back to the CFL? nm - found it: The CFL’s NFL window dictate that Ford will need to sign back with the Blue Bombers if he returns to the CFL before February 2025, which is when his original rookie contract would have expired. -

all I remember from the "We have no DC" days is Doug Brown talking about how they had to make all the decisions themselves on the field, as it was happening. There was no defensive scheme and nobody calling plays, so they just did it "sandlot" and there was so much confusion and breaking down. Total mess. -

I was in favour of Daley being promoted to HC when it happened, but I'll never forgive him for Jason Maas setting that league record for most completions against our God-awful defense.... -

it's very TBurg of you to point out how it's going to eventually end...... *sad trombone* Don't burst my "THIS IS GOING TO LAST FOREVER!" just yet.... -
Yeah, that's a bit of a touchy subject, but ya.... something in the water. I've had my battles with depression over the last 5 years that could have made me a statistic and thankfully didn't. But yes, at one point Pinawa had the highest suicide-per-capita rate in Canada. Not something anyone was proud of, in a town of only 1500 people that's only existed since 1963.

Bombers back at practice on Weds, so we'll know more about injuries then. I doubt we see Grant back without at least a week of practice-but-don't-play before going back in. Would be nice to at least see him out there running around as a good sign pointing in the right direction...

that's a good line.... hat tip....

neither Fine nor Dolegala concerns me... just the "ghosts of LDC", more than anything. People talk about the 7-1 vs 1-7 game, but neglect to mention that was a dead cat bounce game because they canned their coach and brought back Grandpa for the rest of the season. Special circumstances. This game SHOULDN'T be close unless Collaros keeps ******* around. Hopeful this game he has the kinks ironed out and looks more like the ZC8 we saw in the 2nd half vs Montreal.

CFL - 2023 Regular Season - Discussion Thread

As a stupid 17 year old, I fully believed in Reinebold and "a younger mentality" after Kindly Cal's old school ways. In a lot of ways, those seasons galvanized me as a Bombers fan. So many jumped off the wagon, and I was determined to hang on. I have vivid memories of listening to the Troy Kopp game on my little CD/Radio in my BU dorm room and just screaming and yelling so loud that people came running down the hall wondering what the hell was going on. Ha ha. 2013.... the irony of a shitty defense then is that Burke circa 2011 is one of the best DC's we've ever had. Lapo even said he was the biggest FA acquisition they made going into that year and a big reason why we went to the Cup. There were dark times, and I certainly came close (as Matty Geebs alluded to, 2013 era was SO bad...) but 17to85, in one of the only times I can think of him ever being right about anything, said " You have to hang on because one day this is going to end, and when it does it's going to be all the more glorious for having gone through this ****".... damned if he wasn't right for once. -
They also lost their KR, right? And he was arguably their best player. They've got Mauldin, who's really good, but otherwise it's a lot of average pieces. Like most teams, they're one decent QB away from being a solid team...

You have my attention, sir...... edit.... unfortunately appears to not exist online anywhere. Is this an old book that you got pre-owned somewhere?

Gonna mix it up and go with Schoen this time...

Happy for Edmonton fans and happy for Ford.... What a ridiculous record.
-
Edmonton's short yardage unit is the shits. Couple of times now they've been in like 2nd and 3 or 4 and get absolutely nothing. Brutal.
-
I'm no longer going with LOLks... With Tre Ford in, they have a chance and are earning more respect. This team just might make playoffs... Unthinkable a few weeks ago.
-
Ford is legit... I stand by that. I'm not saying he's Doug Flutie but I think he can be a legit starting QB in this league...... In time.

Interesting note from Our Man Tait (and always I encourage you to head to BB.com and read all the pieces in full) in the latest edition of Upon Further Review: "AND, FINALLY… there was some confusion Thursday as to the capacity at IG Field and whether the announced crowd of 32,343. Some background: when the building first opened capacity was listed at 33,500. Sellouts last year when the club led the CFL in attendance for the first time in franchise history were listed at 33,234. The new capacity is 32,343 with the further expansion of the party decks and the removal of flex seating to improve the fan experience. Thursday’s crowd was the first sellout of the season and the third attendance total to eclipse the 30,000 mark. The next two home dates include the Banjo Bowl vs. the Saskatchewan Roughriders on September 9th – that game is already sold out – plus a visit from the Toronto Argonauts and the return of Andrew Harris on September 29th. The Edmonton Elks round out the regular season schedule on October 21." -

Thank you!! I actually went as far as to mute the word Rourke on Twitter because I was so sick of hearing about him. The whole Kid Canada thing drives me nuts. He's played hardly any football in Canada and virtually all of his training is in the US. The only way this amount of drooling would be worthy is if the player was born here, raised here, and played all their ball here...graduated CIS.....THEN became a star. That would be something to talk about. Other than his birth certificate, there is almost nothing separating Nathan Rourke from any other NCAA football player.... Tre Ford ...an actual CIS QB that played all his football here.... Should be getting hype as a starting QB in pro football. **** the Rourke's. -
100% possible. This absolutely REEKS of Americans thinking they're funny

This. If they can find a way to sneak out with 2pts, I'll consider it fortunate and happily slink away. Anything more than that is an incredible stroke of luck and I'll take it.
