Former Bombers in NFL (and spring leagues) news
Guys with no accrued time in NFL (no time on active roster) get about $15,000 USD for a full camp plus per diems which vary for game days and controlled scrimmage. They basically have no cost too because the club provides housing and meals. Guys with accrued time get about double that. Elgersma would be in the former category at this point. That's about 6 CFL game cheques on a rookie deal.

Former Bombers in NFL (and spring leagues) news
There's a 0% chance Elgersma signs here before the end of the next NFL season. And at that it would be if he's getting no calls and looks in January-February 2027. 4 weeks on a NFL PR and he makes more than he would on CFL deal. If he's on a roster for OTA's and training camp he'll basically make a full year of CFL salary on a rookie deal in per diem and pay. If he signs with us he won't be playing any time soon. He won't really be in a spot to succeed. They won't be building an offense around him. There's no incentive at this point for him to sign here, or the CFL generally.

25/26 CFL (Non Bombers) Off Season Thread
BLM was horrendous in the 2nd half of last season. If anyone else in that division has a healthy QB the majority of the season Hamilton is probably 3rd or 4th place.

I think it would be silly to bring back Bryant and Neufeld. They've been done for 3 years. They've been given multiple chances to run it back, and they get worse every season.

I don't worry much about D for Canadians. It's pretty easy to find guys that can fill roles to have 2-3 on the field. But holy **** is our offense depleted in general and especially for Canadians.

Blue Bombers - 2025 Regular Season - Discussion Thread
Willie is kind of a classic issue at the rush end position. His ceiling is so disruptive, but his every down play is terrible. The best he's ever been is a rotational guy which isn't a slight, it's just a fact of the skills and down to down compete level he has. If you can have him play 6/10 snaps on D, you'd be happy. And that's even in his prime. I don't really see a reason to bring him back at anywhere near his current salary. If he'd sign for like $115,000 and a ton of bonuses I'd consider it.

Peterson can hit a gap but haven't seen him survive and manage contact. Also near zero involvement in pass game. Would need a tremendous OL for him to be a serviceable regular option and he'd need to get a lot better too.

Bourgoin, Costanza, Jarryd Baines, Marcus Howell Guys with a lot of CFL experience but basically zero experience as play callers at any level.

Blue Bombers -- 2025/26 Offseason -- Discussion Thread
The guy has pretty clearly been blacklisted by the NFL and FBS/FCS levels of NCAA. He goes from 15 years in the NFL to one year in the circus in Montreal with Dan Hawkins to D3 to a year in a spring league to the CFL again with a pretty dysfunctional organization (not that I think O'Shea etc. would see that since it's a lot of his buddies involved). He's up here making $90,000 Canadian. Think you'd have to do some pretty significant due diligence on why that is before you give him a leadership role.

Mike Miller = bye bye Brady. Has a resume almost as great as Mike Kelly's.

Holy **** is there some bad crack going around town? I'm still disappointed we gave up so quick on Max Hall.

Permission to talk: Is O'Shea leaving?
I don't believe it's that rigid. Just that he knows if he spends $300,000 on a Z receiver that means one of the slot receivers has to be a rookie kind of thing. Pretty standard budgeting.

Calgary hasn't hosted a playoff game since 2019 and hasn't won anything since 2018. They've been down for a long time by CFL standards, especially when Edmonton and Ottawa are so bad too. QB play in the league is bad. If you protect Zach and give him some receivers we could have the best offense in the league pretty quick. It's basically Rourke, Alexander and everyone else. Harris is consistently average, BLM and VAJ had a few good games but are terribly inconsistent. Arbuckle and Fajardo can get you 6-7 wins. Keep in mind all these other QB's were scrap heaped long ago. Harris was dumped by Edmonton and Montreal 4-5 years ago and just won the Grey Cup. Who do you go get that gives you a better chance to win a CFL game than Collaros tomorrow? If you're thinking you're just going to throw a rookie on the field and magic....well go back from about 1995 to 2016 and live that over.

Failure to thrive in adulthood. Have heard similar issues about the kid from Murdoch too. The prep schools really stunt people who don't have the best grounding and adult involvement.

Funny that we've reached the point in the cycle where MOS just doesn't love his Canadians enough, or in the right way. Sure we could find receipts about how people felt about giving Jesse Briggs reps at WIL, having Kramdi take a breath on a CFL field at all. **** almost wish he went to Toronto so we could get our board back.

Honestly I think they should worry about making the draft relevant first. That's an actual event. Free agency isn't really. It's streams and trickles of information over 2-3 weeks. Free agency in the giant leagues is big because there's basically networks that exist to cover that. TSN/SN primarily cover the NHL. ESPN covers NFL, NBA and MLB. All of these leagues have their own networks in the USA with some carriage in Canada. They talk about this **** 24/7 and most of the time with the NHL and July 1 they have almost nothing to talk about. It's dead air and they have no competition other than people finding someone to do outside. How did my browser land on Facebook?

The one thing I really can’t believe on O is how far they’ve got from recruiting/signing the types of players that succeed with Zach. I honestly DGAF about what any OC wants for personnel past the QB. You have to build around the QB in any league. Ideally for Zach you have a lanky, physical boundary WR, a Fantuz/Schoen type slot just big target pure route runner with excellent skills on scramble rules, a slot like a Tasker or Sterns quick inside leverage target zone killer, your field WR is just a big slab of receiver who can win stick and dagger be reliable, and your 5th guy is a playmaker like a Demski. We have like 2.5 of those things depending on if Clercius learns how to win an inside break and if Schoen is healthy. All of it really relies on that boundary WR though because if teams have to worry about that guy you open up so much space in the middle of the field.

Grey Cup GDT - Riders vs Als
What does it say about the CFL that they have to thaw out James Duthie to hand out the Grey Cup and can't let the people who cover the league the entire season do it?

Permission to talk: Is O'Shea leaving?
Exactly. Easy to make excuses. It's Buck Pierce or Jason Hogan's fault. Reality is he's taking a haircut in this free agency like a lot of receivers did the past couple years. His impact on winning doesn't match his current salary.

Permission to talk: Is O'Shea leaving?
Brady is not going to get the offers this round that he got last round. He’s unfortunately proven in the past 3 years that he’s not a big game player. The numbers are there, but it’s guys like Ouellette, Stevie Scott, Kadeem Carey who are stepping up big in big games and big moments. Can make excuses but where’s the signature playoff game in his career? Someone like Harris took over the playoffs from the time he was a rookie until his body gave out in his late 30s. The production is impressive but you’re not paying $300,000 for big games in August.

2025 CFL (Non-Bombers) Season
The Riders are dressing 1 American receiver in the Grey Cup game. You guys would be apoplectic if O'Shea did that. Let's be honest. Their receiving corps is Jakobi Meyers, Ajou Ajou, Kian Schaffer-Baker, Tommy Nield, Sam Emilus and Mitch Picton. They better hope Montreal can't get out of the gates because they aren't scoring more than 20 points on O.

When has Toronto ever been down for more than a year or two?
