  1. Our most impressive lineman athletically is Adams. Not sure we have a ton of evidence to give him flowers. He's got stats on like 2% of the snaps he's played. 0 sacks, 0 TFL's. He's not some unstoppable, transformative force even if he's an impressive athlete. Not disagreeing that he shouldn't get more reps, but not exactly willing concede to him playing more = more pressure from DL, more big plays from DL. So far he's an alright CFL player.
  2. Our receivers are great if they are wide-open. Schoen looks quite limited. Only guys that really fight through contact are Clercius and Demski. Easy to defend us. Kill the vertical stuff, force our receivers to make plays underneath and beat zone. We can't.
  3. The justification is the scheme. With Younger they have no commitment to rush from the edge. They are disrupting QB eyes by challenging their reads in who from their D will be managing which routes and potentially who/where pressure might come from. They'd rather have a guy like Griffin out there as a hybrid at 3 levels than have 4 DL driving into the pocket/off the edge on a potential passing down. We're basically running a 3-4 defense in this era where DB's are LB's. Our only true LB out there is Jones or Gauthier if he's out there....It's basically a 3-1-8 if you're thinking about who might do what, for the most part those 8 are coverage players but they also will rush aside from the corners.
  4. Biggest mistake they've been making from 2022 on is Willie Jefferson. Great luxury piece to add to one of the greatest CFL D's of all-time if you have the cap space. It worked for 3 years amazingly when he played about 2/3 of snaps. But he's not a building block. And especially as he reaches his mid-30's. Jeffcoat was the building block and they've never replaced him. They misread who was dominant, but I mean the whole world does with Jefferson because he's out there and obvious. Not that Jeffcoat could still play, but the role they needed to replace in the scheme to be dominant. Instead, Willie has got paid at each time his ticket has come up as his play is less and less effective without that dominant core in the front 7 around him. I am not a fan of Younger's scheme in comparison to Richie Hall's. We hardly turn the ball over, and we rely on coverage which is foolish. Even when you watch our DL play there's no attempt to get pressure from out side. Vaughters will rush B gap, Jefferson will twist sometimes and end up B or A gap, but from the edge they are just reading the QB to disrupt passing lanes. Any DE we've dressed for the past 2 seasons. It's basically a coin flip every week if it's going to work, but you see how even 1 or 2 guys having a bad game in the secondary sinks this scheme. Pressure is how you build championship defense, and if you're going to have one without the other, consistent pressure is way more impactful. If you have good players in the back end you'll probably never be worse than .500 with this scheme. But it's not a scheme that's going to beat another team that is in rhythm and playing at a championship level. We make no attempt to be aggressive at the line of scrimmage and are mostly trying to disrupt QB downfield reads while that QB basically knows they won't be pressured. Our team stats look decent right now, but we played the worst quarterbacked team by a longshot (BC) twice and Tre Ford.
  5. 2025-07-07 CGY WILCOTS II, Cedric DL A New Mexico State DEL Active Roster https://3downnation.com/2025/07/07/calgary-stampeders-release-veteran-dl-cedric-wilcots-ii/ Here's a guy we can pick up. 1 sack in 17 career CFL games.
  6. Bob Dyce is reaching Jim Daley echelon unfortunately.
  7. Probably not. But Command Centre should have been able to fix it. Like run a stopwatch from the snap to the end of the play. There's 3.8 seconds on the stadium clock before the snap.
  8. Yeah but it didn't start at the snap. It started when Rourke was in his drop from the replay TSN showed synced up to stadium clock. There's no way a QB could take his drop, throw that pass, have the guy run 5 yards upfield and dive down in less than 3.8 seconds. Technically diving head first he needs Montreal to touch him down too to end the play so he's not down right when he hits the turf. Complete garbage officiating and timekeeping to not fix that.
  9. Montreal got absolutely ****** by a ridiculous 15 yard penalty on their FG and clock mistake.
  10. Clock didn't even start until Rourke threw the ball. What the hell is the point of having something like the Command Centre if you can't fix something that obvious?
  11. Hardly anyone is running a 1 QB system well. What do they get, 3 days of 4 hours team period plus game day? Wow...clock malfunction in Montreal. No way that play took less than 3 seconds. How is the command center not fixing this?
  12. Pretty disheartening watching BC and Montreal's receivers fighting for every millimetre after the catch when most of our guys are putting themselves down on the turf and getting no YAC at all.
  13. Hard to believe the Argos could be 1-4 based on the number of DL they dress.
  14. The only spot Parker has looked really good at is SAM. If he's 15 yards downfield he's treading water and struggling with reads. Corner he'd probably have to think less too and maybe could play a bit faster. I'd like to get a look at Allen. Someone a little more rangy who can also cover man all over the field which is necessary in the match coverages. Also, call Russ Dandy back. We need some oomph at corner. Both corners have eaten **** so far this season. Get some guys who will play the ball.
  15. Vaughters works and there's definitely a role for the style of player he is on any team. Jefferson would not have survived into his 30's in basically any era right up until the one we are in now where everyone is a player's coach. The complete lack of effort about 90% of the time is inexcusable. Can be any time in the game and he's jogging at a QB looking like an old man trying to not get hit by a car while jaywalking as the QB goes right around him to the sideline and open space. He's the most egregious example of a guy who at best is a role player, and has been most of his career, who is basically given no leash and no accountability on this team. Doesn't really matter if he's a great guy. Is that the level of effort you want to see from a teammate? If he can watch himself play as he has the past couple seasons and not be absolutely embarrassed he must have zero self-awareness.
  16. Problem with Clercius is he's basically good at one thing. When they've tried him on other routes he's struggled. He's not quite what Wolitarsky was, but similar at Z. Demski is kind of that release valve type guy. He really needs to be the #4, oh D is so worried about the other 2-3 guys and forgot about him. Let him beat guys in press in the score zone, find him on 2nd-3rd read in a route again where D loses him. You shouldn't be running many plays for him downfield, and if it's covered you need to move off him, he's not the kind of guy who is going to win those contested plays very often. Case is probably a more realistic version of what they want from Sterns. Thicker, possession type guy.
  17. Collaros has never really vibed with a receiver like that. More Darvin Adams, Greg Ellingson, Bailey, Fantuz. Get some big possession receivers (height and core) and a couple guys that are legit vertical threats. Wheatfall is a good fit, Clercius is a good fit, Demski is fine as a 4-5 guy. They are missing 2 out of top 3 receivers right now. Schoen isn't worth talking about because he's clearly playing at about 70%. There's going to be no consistency there this season.
  18. So you'd rather throw 3 deep balls into quarters coverage and give them the ball back every possession? The game plan from the start was not good and they gave up on the run way too early. But you can't just come out and heave Hail Mary's every play even down 3 scores. Wouldn't be productive toward changing that score line.
  19. Yeah we don't really have the receivers to beat zone in any way. Not much YAC. Demski and Schoen are busted up from old/ongoing injuries. I've liked Wheatfall on some screen/hitch looks into the field. Our QB doesn't really run quick stuff. But IMO at the moment we have one receiver out there who is a consistent battler for 50/50 balls, and that's Wheatfall. Just a mess the past couple seasons trying to fill a couple receiver slots to build an offense.
  20. Gotta use the catch radius guys at all levels. Same issue with Buck and Lawler. Gotta know teams are going to play more zone to deal with vertical stuff especially if our OL is solid in pass pro. Way too much Demski in that 5-10 yard range for me. Danger zone for him.
  21. Wheatfall only 3 targets while Clercius, Sterns and Demski have 30 combined. How you know you had the wrong gameplan for this game.
  22. Glad we were willing to challenge for 6 yards.
  23. He's basically exactly 1 year off a ACL reconstruction.
  24. Our star receivers with Collaros have been all big dudes and Demski when he gets wide open. Now we're using Demski as a possession receiver, Clercius is the reliable guy for Zach, Schoen is busted, Wheatfall looks to be a threat so he's not getting much space, Sterns is 5'7. Who is Darvin Adams? Bailey? Clercius has taken Wolitarsky's spot. We have done a terrible job of building a receiving corps to suit what our QB likes to do.
  25. Great poke by Holm in the muck.
