His first half was pretty darn bad still. If we are setting that as the acceptable level that is trouble.
Well, he did play well enough to have us in the lead at halftime, and he didn't turn the ball over.
Guys, Glenn's not the answer because there is a good chance Tate will miss a second game coming up so the Stamps won't trade him to the Bombers.
Did someone mention Glenn in this thread?

The frustrating thing is that Buck did make some plays in the first half. He wasn't shooting the lights out but he did move the ball for a TD and the Palardy miss. He was 10/14 for about 130 at halftime but then he completely fell apart in the third quarter.
Gotta rewatch the game and see what changed in the third quarter, whether Hamilton started blitzing more or what.
Another weird thing: who could have anticipated that Etienne would be outplaying Matthews at this point in the season?
-
Pierce has regressed every single year hes been here. Its gotten to the point that even if he is healthy enough to play hes a liability on the field.
Edwards and Denmark also don't cut it, it might time to replace them with two of Poblah(for the ratio), Anderson and Doug Pierce. Clearly this team has a lot of issues on the offensive side of the ball, but our defense should be good enough to win us around 8 games this year.
Benching Denmark seems like a silly move. He's not the problem.

Don't see this at all. He's been the one consistent factor through all the Als teams the past decade. He's not happy with where the team is headed this year, and really no one would be if they were in his position. As much as I hate him he's been a class act in the CFL for a long time.
I don't think I've ever heard a player publicly call out his coaching like AC did last week. Unless they turn it around fast that locker room is going to fester.

Interesting formation in short yardage with Whitaker taking the snap and Calvillo lining up as a tailback.
I guess the point is to get Calvillo on the field for short yardage so that the Stamps have to think about the possibility of a gadget pass play?
-
What? The entire Montreal offence was built around AC getting the ball out fast.
(At least it was back before the current goofs ruined it.)

Cool. Definitely a sportier name than "(Bank) Field" or "(Insurance Company) Field" or "(Telecom) Field."

"Hi, Hank. Name's Dexter Davis. I'm playing in my first CFL game today. It's nice to meet you."
-
Getting George Cortez was a great move. The guy has had awesome offences wherever he's coached.
Their Oline looks like it is in midseason form with respect to their run-blocking... some of their run schemes were pretty sick
Yeah, that Scott McHenry block on the end-around, where he was just hanging around waiting for the play to develop and then he totally springs the runner .... that was something I'd never seen before.

now you are just pandering to the crowd here. I like it.
Note to self: check for bluto posts on riderfans.com in the days leading up to Bombers vs. Argos games.

Pierce = does just enough to win far more than he loses.
Glenn = does just enough to win about as much as he loses.

Assuming we don't sign Matthews before the expansion draft, it seems like he's a risky guy to protect.
If he rebounds this year and looks like he's going to explore free agency, then it's likely a waste of a spot to protect him, since all we'll get for protecting him is an extra couple of months to negotiate.
If he doesn't rebound this year and turns out to be a one year wonder, is it worth protecting him at all?

Voting against Edmonton 2/2
If I'd stuck with my vote-against Hamilton strategy I'd be zero strikes right now.
It's gonna be starting tailback vs. the TiCats for me from here on out.
-
Matthews is a free agent next year, isn't he? Why protect him?

Till one of them gets hurt, and we're screwed for NI depth. I like our NI depth now, finally. Let's not screw with it. I'd give Calgary a draft pick for Glenn, even a second rounder, but not really interested in giving them any players right now, unless it was a spare part we aren't really needing right now.
Yeah, look at how back the Ticats are hooped without both Fantuz and Stala -- you gotta hang onto all the starting-calibre NIs we can.
-
My formula for lock of the week is now "starting tailback of team playing Hamilton."
Damn, that is a terrible defence. Picking up right where they left off last year.

Zach Anderson had a heck of a game for a debut. We've got some keepers on D.
Yeah, we have an injury, call up a guy we cut, and we don't miss a beat.
Seems like Mack has import receivers and DLs stacked up in his garage.
-
Whatever Hank does, it works for him because he never gets hurt.
Has he ever missed any significant stretches with an injury?
I know he's got the tools to be a great one, but he's also a massive whiner who folds his tent and puts his toys away if he decides he doesn't want to play anymore.
I've seen him go into Frank mode without anyone cranking him. Somedays he's his own worst enemy.

would love to see Denmark moved to Edwards spot and D.Pierce in. Denmark is having a good time in his current position though.
Yeah, Denmark is said to be happier being up on the line instead of in the slot. He's not a waggler, apparently.

Attaboy for the Argos, getting almost 30k fans in the Skydome! I would sure like to see the CFL become as popular in Toronto as it deserves to be.
It's just like I said over in other thread, all four Eastern teams have suspect defences or rebuilding defences, there are going to be some bigtime offensive fireworks in the early going.

1) Has Simpson lost a step? He didn't seem to have the giddy-up he had last year in the running game.
2) Disappointed that you can access the pre-upgrade posts on the other site because there are some people who need to have their Jade Etienne posts featured in a retrospective.
3) I really like having just one postgame thread here.
Buck Pierce......should Goltz Start?

I don't know. It's a team game. He did pump fake Etienne wide open.
People say that if we had even an adequate QB we could win with this team. I agree with that and I think we had an adequate QB for the first half, and if Pierce had performed in the second half like he had in the first we would have won the game. So what happened in the second half? I'm not convinced it's as simple as "Pierce sucks."
I do know that we completely stopped running the ball in the third quarter after having some success with it in first half.
yeah, when I look back at all of Pierce's best moments, they happen when he's wandering around the field and improvising. I think that you're onto something here -- which means that the fault lies with the coaches for trying to run something that doesn't suit their any of their quarterbacks.
Remember how awkward McPherson looked in Calvillo's quick-release max-protect system? I wonder if Goltz will have the same trouble when he starts playing.
