Blue Bombers - 2025 Regular Season - Discussion Thread
Pete replied to Atomic's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
Hoping to see Adams as the starting defensive tackle, with his athleticism and size he could be a beast. In the preseason he was outstanding but how it translates to regular games remains to be seen. Right now I could see the following 4 di positions if Vanderpool is at guard then with Castillo and Vaval on special teams, we have only two DI spots left . If Jones starts at WIL then WIlson/Ayers will take one spot and then a choice will have to be made between Griffin and Adams/Woods (whoever doesn't start0. If Vanderpool isn't on the starting roster then three of Griffin. Ayers or Wilson, and Adams or Woods -
I really liked Gowan, but he did seem to come up limping in 4th qtr last game
-
And Wheatfall, who could have a great year
-
They may be looking at adams more as an rotational end he had a great Preseason . He can sub notj tackle and end
-
ly during the regular season the depth chart wasn't very accurate in terms of starters and backups especially on defence. For preaseason its even less so. They are listing Collaros as the starter, but if he gets more than 3 reps Id be surprised. This way its still up in the air who they are leaning to in game 1 to start reg season.

It will be very interesting to see how Edmonton does this year, They have taken the approach of get the best available individual talent, turning over their roster almost completely vs our approach of the best fit. I agree that there are times that OShea's loyalty to vets and those that fit in with his personal point of view has limited some needed improvements to the roster. For example this year does Wilson stay on the roster at the expense of Ayers? Do we see some new blood at corner and safety vs recycling existing players?

I agree there comes a point where talent has to win out. There is a balance though just look at the Maple leafs, they had talent but as a team they lacked the willingness to go to battle for each other. This year I hope that players like Cam Allen at safety and Gowan at corner get a legitimate shot at starter positions. Bridges might be ok but hes not gonna replace Ford -
O'Shea has always said players tend to make a leap on the second year, whether its learning the cfl game, or the bombers system. As far as the other recievers its a bit early to make any judgements. Schoen hasnt stepped on the field and prior to being injured he was more productive than Lawler. We dont know what we have in d. Mitchell and Stern let alone the rookies. Having said that I'm still disappointed that we let Woli go, especially when our Canadian receiver group looks weak behind Demski and Clercius
-
interesting that LB Kobe Wilson (I) K Andrew Mevis (I) DL Camron Peterson (I) were all signed May 3 and released may 10th, talk about quick

more like O'Shea didn't want to make a roster decision between Thomas Smeckle and Samson. Not unexpected we go with the old guard

The elks seem to be the only team spending to the new cap increase. I would have thought Calgary with Adams would have gone after him/ -
the first pick needs to be a potential starter within a year, if that's an ol great, but the first pick shouldn't be just a positional need , If a db pick is more likely to be that starter then we should go there.

The value of Logan has been that when hes on the field he makes plays and opens things up for other players. Having him do so also lessens the load on Demski reducing injury risk. No way he is just used as a returner. We' ve also stocked up on other players including Cobb who can return kicks -
right, what threw me off was not having Kolankowski or ELi listed, may not be our strongest national but we don't have much options.
-
and Olivera . not sure Wallace qualifies just yet though. Only other option is Kelly at safety
-
i'd have to agree, we lost three allstars, and picked up a number of middle of the pack players. What puts teams over the top is those make a difference type players and Walters is paying so much attention to the last year cap we've once again failed to attract those players
-
And so it continues ,,around 90 days til training camp you.say , so between Booch and Speedflex that should be about 300 Thomas posts.
-
Think he goes in the first two rounds Ly Benedet, Hergel both went and even Wiebe who wasn't available for 24 season went.
-
This Thomas obsession is really getting old.
-
They did get calgarys 2nd rnd pick which will be the ninth overall and the bonus 2nd rnd pick so its largely offset
-
the main thing that's changed is that with success players want to be rewarded (rightly so), and in order to retain core pieces that means that there is less available to attract free agents. While if it's a difference of 20k, culture , fans etc may be a deciding factor we haven't been able to come close to offering the "name" free agents what other teams do. With the relatively short careers players have to chase the $. Whether that's on Walters , or a lack of opportunity or on having so much tied into Collaros and Olivera I don't know. Ly we had to move a lot of depth to keep Schoen , Lawler and and Olivera. This year again in order to sign players that we think will help us along with retaining Holm we've again let go more depth such as Woli. Alexander etc.

Dickenson is making a lot of strange choices especially regarding his vets, it feels like he really wants to change up the core of a dressingroom thats had its issues. Rose, Vaughters, Awe, and now McEwen. Add that to how hard it is for them to attract agents given their nonplayoff chances, and the reputation the team now has for poor facilities, treatment, and poor attendance and its not pretty.

Its crazy how much the rider signings mirrored what a lot of us thought bombers should sign to replace players lost An oline upgrade 150k McEwen A cdn db Tevaun campbell 160 k Stud dlineman Rose 175k Backup cdn reciever 90k Total 575k Good job on riders part https://3downnation.com/2025/02/22/how-much-the-saskatchewan-roughriders-paid-their-top-2025-free-agent-signings/

Thats 10 exbombers that Hamilton had signed and only 4 from the rest of the league. Its almost embarrassing (in addition to Sayles and Legghio who they already had) Is Biggy all that's left?
