  1. Didn't think it was possible that his 2nd effort would be worse than his first, but he managed to do it. Arku first overall? Us taking a player at 8th not even ranked in cfl top twenty scouting bureau rankings? Muembi ahead of Straker? And as mentioned no olineman in a draft said to be the best for oline in years.?
  2. nah I don't feel bad, Kongbos last year was 2021. In 2022 we went thru Wilcox and Keion Adams, neither of which worked out for us. Last year when we didn't have Jeffcoat in the lineup, it was very noticeable. We've been able to find dt's but de's that can play both the run and rush the passer aren't easy to find. You need to check your facts.
  3. We've always been looking to find a rotational end, When Haba has been in hes had mixed reviews. Maybe with a year under his beélt he will be better. The question is whether he hasn't reps because coaches didn't have enough confidence in him? With the amount jeffcoats been hurt opportunities have existed.
  4. Last year a lot of fans were calling on Walters to sign lemon, Finding a impactful de is not easy, we' ve been looking for several years and the best we' ve found is Haba, whose results have been mixed
  5. interesting quote from draftdiamonds scouting report Synopsis: Eric Barriere is a stronger quarterback prospect than fellow Eastern Washington quarterback Vernon Adams, who ultimately spent time playing in the CFL. While he may not project as a first round pick, he is the type of player that represents a strong value and investment on draft day. Barriere stands out as one of the top, if not the top, prospects in FCS football heading into the draft, and while he does have room to develop, he also showcases the work ethic necessary to grow. His best fit is on a team with an older established starter where he will have a season or two to learn the system before being thrust into a starting role, but his ceiling is not that of a career backup
  6. The players above were still starters, and when you introduce new players, especially those without cfl experience there os a learning curve. Luckily enough we have a strong coaching and scouting crew to help with that Regarding Stanback obviously they feel he's an upgrade to what they had,but I agree his best years are done
  7. Not saying they are any better as a team, but they' ve done a good job of minimizing losses. In comparison we lost Jeffcoat ,Walker, houston, Grey and Bailey which we need to replace with entry level guys. Time will tell.
  8. Bc lost fewer players than we did and did a better job, for now. replacing them. ie lost Betts > Robertson Rhymes> Stanback (giving them more balance) Whitehead .> Mcinnis Edward -Cooper > Ciante Evans Baron > Richardson We were neck and neck with them in the standing most of the year, whether we repeat will depend on our recruiting
  9. another sleeper is Keytoan Thompson wr, at 6 ft 4 good speed and size
  10. In reading up about combines, the thing is combine results do appear to have a correlation to how players get drafted, but are very limited in usefulness in regards to actual on field success. the forty yard dash is mostly relevant to running backs, and actually the first 10 yards of the forty are the most relevant. (which makes sense when you think of dline linebackers etc). The vertical jump is more relevant but even so isn't a good indicator of success. Teams really should rely on their scouting of games, and game film versus being overly swayed by the combine.
  11. actually haba ran 4.69 Celestin Haba - OLB - Texas AM-Commerce - 2023 Draft Scout/NCAA College Football I'd love to see them sign Kongbo as well
  12. he looks to be stronger than Haba, but slower as well. Maybe he loses a bit of weight to help.
  13. If Grant doesn't sign, maybe we could sign Lucky, while he might not be as good as Grant, he would be another weapon on the offence. Bonus is he would qualify as a designated national.
  14. I believe your question was "I wonder what is historically a worse pick in the first round of the cfl draft, a fb or a wr.?" Tyson Philpot 532 yds ly, 459 yds in 2022 so basically a thousand yards by himself, and the gamebreaking play against us in the grey cup Jalen Philpot hurt in 2023 317yd in 2022 also returned 21 kickoffs for 573 yards and a league-leading 27.3-yard average, Emililus 1097 yards ly If you look at the last 4 drafts there is a lot of less than stellar picks at most positions except fb because none were chosen It all boils down to the individual player ie Demski, Emilus, Gittens jr are all top players and being paid as such
  15. in 2022 Jalen Philpot, Tyson Philpot, And Samuel Emilus were all chosen in the first round.(all turned out to be good picks) Its been a long time since a fb was selected.
  16. Brubacher falls in the same category I think and maybe Una This draft appears to be much stronger in depth than recent years, we should be able to get 3 good players. By the way good post M Silverback, interesting to get an informed take, I'll probably use it in my next 3 down article😉
  17. Hodges 2nd mock draft is better than his first. The guy is amazing in his predictions. Now if he could misspell Ferguson 3 times in one post he would be even better.😉 Before anyone goes off the deep end I'm kidding
  18. yeah my bad. fixed it....sorry if you got confused on who I meant....
  19. Ottawa doesnt have a national receiver on their roster that caught more than 1 pass ly, do you think they will pass on Mital and/or Mardner? Duncan-Busby is the next best but there is a noticable drop off (Hodge has him 15 , Ferguson 17 pick) Ferguson doesn't have Ottawa picking a receiver in any of their 2 picks Your point 2 where Ferguson doubts his own ranking also indicated why his draft is less than stellar As far as Straker goes i may have understated his value, although as an armchair gm, Deblanco seems a better pick
  20. gotta say I'm not a fan of people on this forum who make snide remarks on the commentor vs the topic being discussed. (and for clarity ive said earlier that I dont think Hodges draft was good, just that Fergusons is worse.)
  21. This draft is worse than Hodges, no way that Ottawa not take a reciever in top 2 picks. Nor does Deblanco last more than 3 picks. Straker at 2 is also dreaming
  22. Keith Khalil SCOUTING REPORT: STRENGTHS Outstanding on reach blocks, showing good initial quickness and flexibility to seal the backside. He’s a heady player who is quick to recognize and react to twists and stunts up front, and Keith shows a good sense of timing on combo blocks. Dips shoulder and moves his feet to get outside leverage when needed. Strong and low coming out of his stance, effective in short-yardage situations. Fires off the snap quickly, and he shows the flexibility to get out and seal on reach blocks. He’s at his best, however, in the phone booth. In the run game, he plays with a mean streak and does a nice job generating a push at the initial point of attack. Keith can get outside and does a decent job landing blocks in space. Coordinated when moving to the second level as a run blocker, capable of landing blocks on the move. Fires out of his stance with a good pad level, consistently winning at the point of attack. SCOUTING REPORT: WEAKNESSES Tends to slip off blocks when going against bigger linemen, and Keith too often finishes plays on the ground. Drops his head too often on contact, which causes problems against swim moves. He's athletic and a pure left tackle whose high-hipped frame and waist bending might be exposed against pro rushers
  23. Brady wasn't as fast but he was a lot stronger. 29 reps vs 16 for Chris-Ike (Herzog was dnp), but I think your right, I would think Chris-Ike at least would go in the 2nd round. I would think we'd even be interested vs taking a fullback (neither Hladik or Oulette impressed speed or strength wise)
  24. Looks like wr and dbs fared well in relation to 2023, Deblanko improved his stock at lb, Dl were disappointing while oline seems stronger as well Id be cautious with Haladik, and Ouellette at fb, no higher than 3rd round. Chris Ikes at 225 lbs is intriguing with great speed and size
