  1. I still can’t believe we went that long without all the games being televised.
  2. Does anyone else have a holy grail old game you’ve never been able to find a copy of. I’ve always been after the game here vs Edmonton, on a Monday night after 9/11 and/or an August/1996 game vs Calgary here, 38-36 win. I remember both being pretty wild watching live.
  3. In retrospect the 2022 game was still the bigger piss off. 23 Montreal was on a roll. Bombers still should have won, but it happens. 22 was lost simply due to completely avoidable mistakes. Legghio’s miss and that bloody stupid call on the Prukop pass. I can get past the most recent one but 2022 is up there with 2001 and the 08 ESF as the losses I’ll never get over as a fan.
  4. It’s hard to tell given the games have been on the same single network for so long. I seem to remember CBC talking about the game itself a little more than TSN does, but it could be just rose-coloured glasses.
  5. Football broadcasting didn’t really evolve from the 40s until the rise of the AFL in the mid-late 1960’s. Monday Night Football was a direct answer to the innovative things the AFL were doing, everything took off from there. Especially in the states, pro football was considered a distant 3rd tier behind baseball and College football right up until the 70s. I assume it was the same here, with hockey still being the bigger deal even now.
  6. That’s how I see it, and how the adults in my life viewed it at the time too. It chaps my ass when people mention that 95 team as the greatest of all time. They had some great players, but that team deserves an asterisk big time.
  7. I was only 7. All I can remember is freezing, the ball hitting the goalpost, and overhearing my Dad on the phone saying “it was bullshit how they kicked those guys out” after the game. I guess referring to the shoe thing? I also remember complaining at school that it “wasn’t fair that Baltimore didn’t have to play any non-imports” and none of the other grade 2 kids having a clue what I was talking about.
  8. After that game our cat got out and got under the deck, which is about a foot high. She got scared and hid far underneath. I had to army crawl under to get her. In the process I knelt in dogshit. Also tripped and smoked my head on the downspout. …It was still the better part of the evening.
  9. I was too young but 88 and 89 seems like such a strange year. I’ve seen most of the regular season games and the 2 playoff games/GC. I don’t recall such a consistently underwhelming team making a run like that until maybe this past years Alouettes. Like some of the 88 games, the Bombers were SO bad. The games against Sask in particular looked like 2013. The next year, they almost did it again, while looking even worse in their losses. Then you watch the EF/ESF from both those years and it’s like someone took their controller back from their kid. (Totally off topic) 1989 was also the only year until ‘22 that the Bombers wore white at home. The whole league did, for about half the regular season games. Very odd visual here.
  10. Anyone know much about George Una? Hodge has been pumping his tires
  11. Not to speak for others, but I think by “hoodwink” he meant In terms of where and how he was drafted, not necessarily the best overall player pick. By that criteria I’d say it’s up there for draft success in recent history. I wouldn’t say the greatest hoodwink though, Rourke was a second rounder for one. You could also include Loffler and even Olivera as guys who were drafted later than their provided impact would dictate in hindsight.
  12. Ironically, you’re one of the forum posters who could write as well or better than 3dn. You know it’s possible to be critical of something and still appreciate its existence right?
  13. Some more context: Ottawa was absolutely jobbed by the officials in that 1981 grey cup game. They called (actually) the worst OPI I’ve ever seen on Tony Gabriel (on a play where Gabriel himself was interfered with twice) while Ottawa was driving near the end, with a less obvious DPI non-call the next time the Rough Riders got the ball. We think the refs are bad now and justifiably ***** about the command centre, but the 80s and 90s officials were a different level of terrible.
  14. For our league, I prefer the “5-10 players to look at” type of articles to mock drafts most of the time. I’d only read mocks from media like Dunk, or the CFP guys who actually follow USports.
  15. Dave Ritchie was someone I’d always thought would be a joy to sit down and talk with. RIP coach, thanks for all the great moments as a fan. Nothing in sports fandom would have meant as much to me as that particular Grey Cup
  16. It’s all based on the always-overlooked key (imo main key) to Defensive Football. Pressure up the middle. It can make an all star QB look like trash out of nowhere on any given play. Our interior o-line wasn’t very good in pass pro all last season and part of 2022.
  17. You’re right and Scott Oake talks about it too a little after “Orville Lee was hit by a snowball, he threw one back and hit the fan in the head” What a wild scene.
  18. This is the game. I’m not sure if there’s clips of players going into the stands, but the enndzones were clearly pelted with snowballs by the middle of the 4th.
  19. Yes! I’m glad I’m not the only one. Old Bomber games have become my new background go-to. Here’s a rare win over the Flutie Stamps in a rain-soaked defensive slugfest.
  20. The most frustrating thing is the way Osh chose to cut off the teams nose despite the face regarding the nationalized Americans. I’ve never before heard of a coach deliberately declining to use an advantageous rule. A comparable scenario would be a coach declining a no-yards call because he was mad they got rid of the 5 yard penalty.
  21. It’s gotten pretty bad but we have to keep in mind there was/is no alternative. I’m still glad we have a PFT style format for CFL news and opinions. It’s the quality of the writing (and very dated website) that’s lacking. I’d be 100% down to start a new CFL news/opinion/article site if anyone else here wanted. I’m positive there’s better writers on MBB than 3dn has on staff. Standing offer, for real. PMs always open.
  22. Great idea. That will be the next and last jersey I buy.
  23. Ricky Santos was a short-yardage all star.
  24. That game was on my 18th Birthday. I’m thankful I don’t remember.
  25. I’d have to agree. There’s another universe where he’s a superstar. All those corner routes in Hills video reminded me more of Clarence Denmark than anyone else. I’m still the most excited to see what that Wilson out of Florida State can do on a CFL field.
