  1. Star #1: Zach Collaros. Silenced his critics last night here & in Bomberland with a great performance throwing the ball. He was in command all game except for a stretch in the third quarter where the Bombers had four 3 & outs. Over 300 yards passing & a clutch TD run to sew the victory up for the good guys. Star #2: Tony Ayres: Usually our linebackers seem to play the game in obscurity while getting the job done but Ayres job last night was to stick with Tre Ford wherever he went & he did that magnificently. He performance was noticed, He pressured Ford a number of times & sacked the Elks qb at least once & kept him to just 6 yards rushing. Star #3: Nic Demski with two tds receiving including the one where he stole the ball from the Edmonton DB covering him on the deep throw from Collaros on our second possesion in th first quarter which set the tone for our offense the rest of the night. Happy Honker: Wide Receiver Keric Wheatfall who could rack up a 1,500 yard season if he maintains his pace & stays healthy. He's our replacement for Kenny Lawler as a deep threat. Hard to believe Wheatfall's the same rceiver who couldn't keep his regular receiving spot & was a healthy scratch for a large part of the season.
  2. I'm just so glad that Buck is gone. Let him stunt Nathan Rourke's growth as a qb. Cough, cough... Ever thought it was the QB Coach & OC whose now in BC?
  3. They'll fight hard losing close games Like tonight trying to make Ford an actual qb until they can't anymore. By then, it'll be too late & the Elks season will be lost. When that happens, the Elks will fall apart & another year will be wasted by a coaching staff trying to do domething that won't happen. Turning Ford into a pocket passer.
  4. Calvillo also talked about how as a backup that Ham as a veteran qb taught him how to prepare & be ready to play. Ham helped him & Trestman did as well. Having great talent around him at every position offensively did as well. Anyway, this topic isn't worth diagreeing over. It takes more than one person to build a qb. He played well tonight.
  5. No, Calvillo learned the game under Tracy Ham. He learned how to read defenses. Calvillo didn't change the way he played. He changed the way he prepared. And he had real receiving talent around him like Ben Cahoon, Terry Vaughan, Chad Owens, Terrence Edawrds SJ Greene, Pat Woodcock & Jermaine Copeland as well as Mike Pringle at running back.
  6. The receivers are not fine. They're average. Re-program a 36 year old qb whose played for 25 years??
  7. I was in Grade 7 when Bobby Sherman was popular. He was everywhere in teen magazines, the newspapers, hit songs on the radio, (his songs were hot garbage), he had a variety show & starred in a tv series. The girls in junior high were in a swoon over him. It seemed every girl's locker had a picture of him. I couldn't stand the guy. Then he just disappeared. his career was over as fast as it began. I read in the 90's that he became a paramedic & deputy sheriff. Now 55 years later, I don't hate him anymore. Rest In Peace, Bobby Sherman. I had to suffer so now y'all can, too.
  8. We won't spend money on receivers now. We're dead last in the CFL in receiving yards per game. We get what we pay for. Yet defensively, we waste money on guys like Thomas & Wilson. Makes no sense.
  9. Yes but he had a shoulder injury that he never told the Flames about. He was worried that the injury would affect his draft status.
  10. Luke Wilson at it again on social media. He said the Argos-Rider game was crap despite the walk off KOTD. Too many penalties & qb sneaks. He called Bob Irving old after he criticized Wilson's take on the game in Toronto. Wilson said he still loves Jon Ryan even after his former teammate supposedly ripped him on a social media podcast yesterday. Is the Luke Wilson experiment working?
  11. Gonna stick with Tommy Stevens.
  12. You need to spy him as he'll just run when he makes his one read & panics if that receiver isn't open. That's all he does is run. He's not good at anything else.
  13. Massoli's only half the qb he used to be. He'll never be a threat as a qb anymore. To me, signing an old guy like that with obvious age & old injury issues just because he's a "veteran" is a waste of money. Could he win the Lions four games if Rourke was out for the season? I highly doubt it. It's better to try to develop a second qb who has potential. Not to say that there's qbs hanging from trees ready to be picked with expanded NFL & now UFL rosters but they're out there. It's still up to the Lions to find one. That's on Ringmaiden & his scouting dept if they can't.
  14. Massoli really isn't anywhere near the qb he used to be. Age & injuries have really caught up to him. I'm surprised BC signed him. Their backup spot now with him is just a waste.
  15. It would be disappointing if a 350 lb guard like Wallace turned out to be useless.... that would be a killer but so far so good. He's a keeper. Line up the Brinks truck, Walters to pay the guy next season. You can't let this guy walk.
  16. No one asks the hard questions because they know the answer to that question will be no answer & a scowl to go with it.
  17. IIRC, Zach got the ball off without anyone touching him. Was he under pressure, sure. Did he have the time to just sit in the pocket? No, but he throws 200 passes like that every season under duress. It was a bad throw, a useless throw. Why throw? Run the ball. Get a first down running the ball or punt. So, I'm not saying you aren't right about pressure.
  18. Zach still had time to throw, though. Collaros just floated it in there for the easy pick. You could tell when it left his hands, the football was a wounded duck.
  19. That last TD BC scored was all on Zach for throwing a pick with a minute & a half left in the game & giving the Lions instant field position at or around the Bomber 30. Why do we insist on giving other team gifts like that??
  20. My lasting impression of the Grey Cup is Osh playing Collaros with an injured finger which was a disastrous decision. Then he started Jake Thomas rotating him & Schmeckel at DT on a 3 man front & being stood up, pushed back, running around on his tippy toes being the 5th guy in on his tackles & manhandled on every fricking play he was in. Schmeckel wasn't much better. Both guys were on an island being mugged every play while WJ played the game of his life. Those 2 were an embarassment. FF to last night, no defensive ends to rotate in & Thomas still there, still starting & still as useless as ever.
  21. I know no one feel sorry for me but... being Saturday even with a monsoon I had things to do. The plan was to pvr bothj games then around 6;30 or 7pm MDT, sit down & start watching the Bomber game & staying off social media so I wouldn't know who was winning. Then after the Bomber game, watch the Ottawa@Stamps game from earlier yesterday. A Saturday night of CFL which I love. So, about 6:30 pm when I finally had some free time, I went downstairs, sat down turned on the tv only to discover that I forgot to pvr both games. Missed the entire Stamps vs Ottawa game but was "lucky" to be able to watch the last 11:49 seconds of the fourth quarter of the Bombers@Lions game. I can tell you, my wife knew from upstairs how unhappy I was... My drink I had planned to sip on, some Canadian Club was finished in one gulp. I could have sworn I pvr'd both games. Senior moment.
  22. Seeing Jake on an island by himself being stood straight up & pushd back while he fought on his tippy toes was maybe the worst thing I ever saw as a football fan. That shoukld have told him it's time to retire but no... he coms back & Osh makes him a starter.
  23. Coaching decisions lost us that game, especially putting an injured Zach Collaros in just to throw 2 pick sixes to put the game out of reach.
  24. In the GC, Arbuckle looked like the next break out star & now KABOOM!!!! The floor had just dropped out & his stock as a viable CFL qb is falling fast.
