  1. They gave Bobby Dyce an extension as well. We'll see how long that lasts. How can someone "reinvigorate" his career? He can either play or he can't. I doubt if you'll see Chris Jones ever be HC in Edmonton again. He may show up in the CFL after a HC elsewhere is fired.
  2. Last season, Zach struggled at first when Schoen & Lawler were gone but finished with over 4,000 yards passing. Most qbs would be happy to get to that number. He had more TDs than interceptions. So, I'd say from the seventh or 8th game of the season on, Collaros played well. Not exceptional but good enough. As far as losing the GC, when he injured his finger we were toast. Not so much offensively but hooped defensively. No pass rush. Jake Thomas & Schmeckle were absoutely useless. Arbuckle could autograph each football he threw. We needed to stop the Argos & couldn't. And guess what??? We're doing the same thing again this year. Jordan Younger, Ritchie Hall & Mike O'Shea keep making the same mistakes with our Cheetos Defense. We lost to Nick Farking Arbuckle. They haven't learned.
  3. I read today the Bombers gave football in Manitoba $390,000. That's what a pro team should do to give back to the community & grow the the game. I don't recall the Stamps EVER doing something like that. I think I recounted the sad story of the Falcons organization here in Calgary. About 5 or 6 years ago, through a huge mistake in judgement, the Board that oversaw the Falcons Atoms, Pee Wees, Bantam & Spring League had their clubhouse broken into. They were totally cleaned out. Lost everything. The Board in its absolute stupidity tried to save money by not having any of the equipment insured. They lost everything. They couldn't fund raise that amount to replace everything & the organization folded. I thought the Stamps would step up to help. I don't recall them doing anything. That kind of sense of community is missing from the Stamps now. Previous owners would have done something. They would have helped.
  4. Through Murray Edwards imcompetence, they've lost a generation of fans here. I don't know how they ever get them back.
  5. Not convinced Dru Brown is the guy long term either. Buck as OC may have felt the same. He struggled at times in Ottawa & was benched at one point. Brown may develop into an elite starter but he has a ways to go yet. This will be a very important season for Brown to be sure. It may not be make or break but if he doesn't show growth as a qb then he may be another Nick Arbuckle.
  6. Notice how the 2 of the 3 worst franchises in the CFL are run by the same companies that own NHL teams? Calgary owner is worse than MLSE. He puts zero dollars into the team for promotion. You don't even know we have the Stamps here. We're the only CFL team that has no indoor practice facility. He refuses to reinvest in the team. A billionaire who could easily afford building a practice facility & stadium just refuses to do anything.
  7. The one thing I've always wondered about... Booch & wbbfan are right. Training camps aren't what they were back in the day. Two-3 weeks of two a days hitting every practice with full pads. Guys running till they puke or pass out. Head Coaches pushing their players to the breaking point just to see who really wants to play as guys who couldn't hack it would sneak out in the middle of the night. Jim Spavital's camps were especially gruelling. Spavital was an ex Marine ran his camps like they were boot camp at Paris Island. Nothing like that anymore. Now teams do one 4 hour practice instead of two, 2 hour practices with just shoulder pads, helmets & shorts. Occasional hitting in full pads but maybe once a week. Yet, what do we see? More players in the infirmary by Day 4 of TC than there ever were back in the day with full hitting. How can guys get hurt so much when things are so relaxed than they were in the 60's? Then someone like Neufeld mysteriously gets an injury where's he's out day to day for weeks & the media is never told how long he'll be gone. I'm sure that's already in the works for the guy again this year.
  8. That's what I've always said. Two jobs. One job is for the day to day football operations. Deal with player suspensions, rule changes, on field problems. The other is more of a marketing kind of role. Involvement in negotiating a new CBA, tv contract, finding new opportunities to generate revenues, expansion & getting players (dare I say "star" players?) out there doing commercials & PR events.
  9. Also, you can watch Chris Streveler on Instagram @cstrevy5. I've been following his off season workouts & I don't think I've seen a pro athlete work as hard as Streveler, not only to overcome his knee injury but also to keep working on changing his fundamentals from the old "linear" to the more modern "rotational" qb. He looks ready to go as well.
  10. If you follow qbmotion on Instagram, then you could have watched Rourke work out every day since New Years Day. The guy has put in the work this off season & he looks ready to go.
  11. Mathis, like Perry Como had such a looooooooooooooooooong career as a crooner spanning the generations.
  12. I think Buck is very conservative in his play calling. He had a qb & two wideouts (Lawler & Schoen) who could stretch the field. When he lost Schoen for the season we couldn't do what we used to do, even after Lawler came back. I didn't see a lot of innovation or imagination with our passing attack. It'll be interesting what Buck does with Rourke. This might be a case of oil & water.
  13. I get what you say but my response would be... Then retire. We have younger guys who are hungry but are blocked from developing into starters..
  14. Val Kilmer: Tombstone: Doc Holiday kills Johnny Ringo in a showdown.
  15. This is what happens when the CFL puts all of its eggs in one basket. Fans have said for years that the CFL doing business only with one network wasn't a great idea. Of course, would the CFL listen? Nope.
  16. I think running a league is a bit different than running a football team & he did run TSN, so there's that. After Ambrosie, I have very little confidence that the guy they hired really will or won't do a good job. I feel the same way you do, wbbfan. But I'm willing to give the new guy a chance. I'm just thinking that no one could be as bad as Scarf Boy. Hopefully, the Halifax expansion BS is over. I'm expecting the new Commissioner to look for ways to increase revenues for the league as well as grow the game. And to not lie to fans & media just to make himself look good which is what Ambrosie did constantly. He had lost all his credibility.
  17. Pretty gruelling for those poor old guys.
  18. Patrick Neufeld better not be given a month long break only to be given back his starting Guard position the first regular season game. I think a lot of these long term training camp & pre season injuries would be a lot shorter or magically disappear if the veterans who take advantage of this know their jobs are on the line. I remember watching a documentary on Jimmy Johnson his first year as Head Coach in Dallas with the Cowboys. He wanted to change the culture of the team coming off of a couple of dismal losing seasons in Tom Landry's final years as Head Coach there. He noticed a running back struggling on the field. He went over & asked him what was wrong. He told Johnson that he had asthma. He told the running back that the "asthma field" was over there pointing to an empty practice field. He sent the player to the field to stand alone by himself. He cut him after practice. Johnson also cut veteran All Pro Henry Jordan after he complained training camp was too hard for him & that he needed to be a little more laid back. Cruel, perhaps? However, is a running back who can't get thru practice with asthma going to help the Cowboys win? Is a veteran who isn't all in at training camp going to be all in during a game? After all, at the pro level, it's all about winning & then maintaining that winning culture I'd like to see Osh be a lot harder on some of his veterans who may feel that they have it made in the shade. In particular, NG & Center. That includes giving positions to favourites without competition.
  19. Kilmer just had that 'something' when he played a role. He had so much charisma in every character he played. He stole the movie Tombstone as Doc Holliday. He stole the first Top Gun movie in his role as Iceman. It was the same in every movie he was in. Kilmer should have been given the lead role in the first Top Gun motion picture instead of Tom Cruise because he owned that movie. Even in Top Gun: Maverick his scene with Cruise knowing that death was coming for his character was charismatic. All Cruise had to do was know his lines, be where he was supposed to be on the set during the scene & watch Kilmer at his best even in poor health. Rest in Peace.
  20. Rekjavik? That is one place I wanted to go.
  21. In 60 years of watching Bomber football, I have never seen anything like that gust of wind allowing us to win that game. That was incredible. I thought maybe God is a Bomber fan until he wasn't after Zach sliced his finger open on his throwing hand.
  22. Delete comment. Wrong thread.
  23. You make it sound like Adams "going down hill" for him was his fault. It was the owner, GM & HC who didn't have the faith in him all because they thought that Nathan Rourke would win them a Grey Cup based on his 9 game performance in 2023. It was their stupidity who derailed the Lions season. Nothing Adams did hurt the team as the guy was all in. At the time he was injured, Adams did everything that was asked of him & more. I think Rourke is a flash in the pan. He got on a hot streak in 2023. I think if anyone is an average qb, it's Rourke.
