  1. Just never make him the heir apparent to Walters which is a concern of mine. It probably wouldn't be a surprise if he was drinking while he posted as well.
  2. I think the title of this thread is in very poor taste. People lost their lives & property down in the LA area. But that's okay, let's yuck it up for a hockey game. Not saying you should get rid of it but in your zeal to be clever maybe next time pause a second to think about it before you press Enter.
  3. Probably like football in Calgary. The fees are a higher but they cover the cost of the equipment. Hockey need not be for the rich & elite but things won't change, I beleve.
  4. He's injury prone up here on the larger CFL field. He'd be in the infirmary most of the season with the close confines of an NFL field. The NFL is much more physical because the receivers don't have the room they have in the CFL.
  5. I coached football here in Calgary for many years at all levels. From atom (8-9) to pee wee (10-12) to bantam (13-14), high school to spring league (15-17 no grade 12's can play) & high school (15-18). At every level, the teams in the leagues provided the equipment at no charge. Teams fit their players & with the exception of the bantam league which owns all of their equipment & is stored in a warehouse somewhere in Calgary, the rest of the teams fund & replenish their own equipment storing it themselves in their own clubhouses. One of the attractions for kids to play football is that for a fee of $500-900 everything is provided for the players. Fees have shot up since Covid. the cost of equipment, especially modern helmets have increased significantly. A portion of the fees charged does go back to the leagues themselves but teams use the remainder of the fees to help finance running a team. Parents must provide a post dated cheque for up to $1500 if they decide not to return the equipment before a certain date on the cheque. It's a lot of money but only gets cashed if equipment is not returned. Why can't hockey do this?
  6. Not to the point of harassing people like Lyle Bauer in the way that he did which became very, very personal.. At first, it may have been amusing. Then it became strange like he was obsessed with Bauer. Nate has been banned almost everywhere on CFL social media. I think Nate has a couple of screws loose inside his head.
  7. Anyone really think he'll last down there or he's nothing more than training camp fodder for the Jets? I think he'll be back but we'll have to sign him as other CFL teams will jump when he's cut.
  8. Not the last 3 Grey Cup championships.
  9. Thanks for bringing down the paywall.
  10. We want excellent football, Not decent football. Those teams win championships.
  11. One thing I've learned about serious career football coaches is that for most of them their word means ****. They'll tell you something that they know you want to hear. Make a promise & then break their word & do something else. Not all of them. There are some decent & kind assistants & head coaches around whose word is their bond. But the majority are so busy worrying about being fired, chasing another job or looking to leave where they are at present that it just consumes them. They have very few friends outside of football. Chris Jones fits that description to a tee.
  12. He truly became a very bitter old man.
  13. Nate passed away, didn't he? Or did get the story incorrectly?
  14. Twenty five years ago I was good friends with a CFL Head Coach & he gave me the dirt on the team. Players & coahes he liked, disliked & even trades coming down the pike. He trusted me to shut up & say nothing. I knew more about the team than the media guys covering it. I never said a word to anyone when he told me something. But I would have been the exception & not the rule. Others would have started rumours so I disagree with you. Players talk. Coaches talk.
  15. I saw a story on X today that the Raiders are going after Belichek to be their President of Football Operations or some such title. He'd run the Raiders. The guy hires a college staff & then leaves. Then watch, Chris Jones takes over as Head Coach from Bill at UNC. The guy has more livs than a cat.
  16. Bombers sign Jake Thomas. Allow Jefferson to leave in free agency. That would be so this regime.
  17. Again, our secondary was the reason for that. Think we'll keep Ford?
  18. More than a MLB, we need to rebuild our defensive line which would help Jones become a better linebacker.
  19. We played with smoke & mirrors defensively all season. How can anyone say that we have a great D without any kind of pass rush from the DL? Gauthier & Bighill as starting linebackers for the majority of the season. Bomber mgmt refusing to upgrade our front 7. Just satisfied with rushing three & dropping nine because we had one helluva secondary that saved our asses time & time again. Imagine what they could have done with an actual front 7 in front of them.... We are pansies on defense. A paddy cake defense. No physicality. Nuthin'.
  20. Sour cream does me fine on perogies with fried onions.
  21. There aren't enough quality Canadian assistants being brought up to the CFL from U Sports to have the innovation needed to help make our game more exciting. They lack the experience & knowledge of the rules of the game. Canadian coaches for the most part even if they become OC's, DC's or STC's just follow what they know which is the status quo. We need more NCAA coaches up here like we had years ago but they're not coming anymore like they used to. They seemed to be able to look at our game & find ways to move the ball with trick plays or innovative offenses which came down to their knowldge of fiootball in general. Eliminating the TE & using another slot was Ray Jauch's idea in 1979 while coaching the Bombers. John Hufnagel started using four receivers flooded to one side to create match up issues when he was OC with the Stamps with Flutie. Trouble is, these were over 30 years ago. The problem for CFL teams is the coaches-admin cap which has to go, the low Canadian dollar as American coaches are paid in Canadian money, low pay & lack of benefits the coaches get putting in long hours on a CFL's team's staff. No one from the US really wants to coach up here anymore. Today's game at times just seems stagnant. Recycling old coaches with the same ideas they had on other teams certainly doesn't help.
  22. That was well over 10 years ago. You know, Dave Smith or Jim Erkenbeck might be interested in coming back here. Oh wait, they died almost 15 years ago.
