Do you agree with Ed Hervey that the CFL has no supertars? -
No jumping snowmobiles, please!!!!

Not sure if anyone else has seen this warning but randomly when I come here to MBB, I see this message saying, "This site does not provide a secure connection." What does it mean? Am I taking a risk coming here when I see this message?

2024/2025 Blue Bombers Off-Season Thread

Yeah, could happen as some guys do pan out later in their careers. I'm not counting on it. WTH, JC Abbott?? A little early for the Bombers to open negotiations. At his age (35 going on 36), I think the Bombers are waiting to see what kind of season he puts together first. I just hope Plan B is ready if Zach gets hurt. -

Overall, a pretty disappointing off season... I don't feel that Walters & Osh had a shared focus on what they wanted to do when free agency started -

I'm also sure as an assistant coach over in Europe, they aren't putting in 12-14 hours of work a day during the season, either. Coaching in USport, Junior & even the CFL seems like a limited career. It's not like coaches here have a pipeline if they want to move up to the NCAA or NFL. If they move up to the CFL from the lower ranks, once an assistant get fired from a CFL team, it seems to be over for most of them. Going back down to the lower levels is the only choice. . -

You know, you may never use a tampon but you will get old. If you're lucky to live that long. You won't be any different than anyone else. -

Then the panic sets in when some of these players don't get drafted by the NFL or are offered a free agent contract. Or are offered & get cut during tryouts or OTA's. Then the CFL starts to look good. -

Rod Rust was 77 years old when he coached here in 2005. D i c k LeBeau, one of the greatest defensive coordinators of all time coached full time in the NFL until he was 80 years old. His last position with Tennessee, he was DC & Asst HC with the Titans. Chiefs DC Steve Spagnuolo is 65, HC Pete Carroll with the Raiders is 74. Romeo Crennel was 73 when he was Interim HC in Houston during the 2020 season. Bill Belichek is 72 years old as HC at North Carolina. Yeah, it's rare but if a coach can still do it & do it well then I think it's great. No need to mock anyone. -

It would be considered semi pro over level here as players on a team have vastly different experience levels. Coaching there would have a bit of pressure but not a lot. For some of these older guys it's a holiday. They bring their wives with them, travel around when they're off & they try to live the lifestyle Europe provides them. That's why the former Portand head coach kept coming back. -

It's probably a pretty good gig with little or no pressure. Housing, transportation & food allowance built into his salary during the season. Some teams have more money than others. Or are in better divisions & can give better deals to North American players & coaches. Calgarian Chris Merchant, Western Ontario QB, Hec Creighton winner & Vanier Cup champ went to play in Europe after his dream of playing in the CFL ended & he won at least two championships in Italy & Hungary as a qb. My son considered playing in Europe in 2016 but decided not to as he was engaged & didn't want to be separated from his fiance. He could have went over for four or 5 months but ultimately felt that it wasn't for him. I also knew a former legendary head coach in Portland, OR high school football who retired 25 years ago as one of the winningest high school head coaches in the state. He was coaxed out of retirement at age 65 to coach in Europe. He coached in Germany, Hungary, Italy & other countries. Every year for well over a decade. Some places he was a HC, others a coordinator or just a position coach. He said he loved it, He didn't get rich coaching in Europe but he was comfortable with just about everything paid for. He did it until his mid to late 70's when his health gave out & he had to return home. Yeah, a few older coaches did coach over there. I know Ray Jauch coached in Europe & I think Rita has also been there before. There have been other former CFL coaches who went to Europe as well. As long as their health allows them to contribute, I say good for them. -
When you average 6 million viewers an episode, sometimes more, sometimes less, people get angry a series gets taken away. The fans took it out on SWAT. When I heard BB was cancelled last year & never coming back, I immediately stopped watching. I moved on. Never saw the final half season or series finale. Didn't care. I sure wasn't going to watch SWAT. Judging by the reaction on social media, I wasn't the only one. I'll watch the new Danny Reagan spinoff out of curiosity.
-
With the anger over Blue Bloods being cancelled & CBS ignoring fans wanting it renewed, no show would have survived in that Friday night time slot. SWAT was supposed to keep former BB viewers happy as it was a police procedural but there's no way fans were ever going to watch it. CBS sacrificed that show. The only CBS show that would ever work in that time slot would be if the network used that new BB sinoff tv series with Danny Reagan (Donnie Wahlberg) as a replacement in the fall.

Justin wouldn't know a football from a cow pie. Might make as much money as Scarf Boy's Diversity Is Strength tee shirts. The receivers would be catching passes with tampons. -

Who knows what a CFL Commissioner is truly worth salary wise? Is it a half mill, $1M or $2M?? I do know this, The bickering of teams has to stop for the good of the league. We need to hire someone with that **** all done with. We need a person in place who knows how to grow revenues & has a clue how to market the league as a whole. I'd be in favour of the job being split up. Hire a football person to handle the day to day football operations of the league, the teams & to be the face of the CFL. Work with teams & fans to grow the game all across Canada but centre mostly on the 9 teams & fans. Then hire a Business Marketing President who does the grunt work drumming up sponsorships & business relationhips for the CFL. He/she would be responsible for possible expansion cities, marketing the CFL on a national basis , negotiating a new tv deal, streaming rights & a new bargaining agreement with the players. I think what is asked of a Commissioner today with all the CFL's problems, is far too much for one person to handle. -

Again, the priorities are screwed up thru loyalties to veteran players by Osh. This has been the complaint here & everywhere in Bomberland for years. You don't have to be the best to be in Osh's inner circle & continue to play at the expense of younger players with potential. Liam Dobson will get his chance to perform in Hamiltonwhile Kolo gets to continue to be overpaid to underperform here. The Bombers will get what they pay for. Not angry. Disappointed is a better description. -

That's my entire point. They value an older crappy Kolo whose best before was 5 years ago than they do a young Dobson who'll only get better.
