  1. Last year's Grey Cup win on the final play... It doesn't get any better than that. Secretariat winning.... Hell no.... DOMINATING... the Triple Crown in 1973. One of the greatest athletic achievements ever done... even for a horse. New York Jets defeating the Baltimore Colts 16-7 to win SB3 & hasten the merger of the AFL & NFL. The Montreal Canadiens knocking off the heavily, heavily, heavily favoured Boston Bruins in the first round of the 1971 Stanley Cup Finals. The inexperienced Americans knocking off the Soviet Union to win gold in hockey at the Lake Placid Olympic Games in 1980. Bob Labonte's burnt rock at the 1972 Silver Broom allowing Canada (Orest Meleschuk) to steal a single point in extra ends to win the world curling championship. Team Canada winning the 8 game "Summit Series" with the Soviet Union in 1972. Seeing that poor ski jumper fall every week for years. How can he live it down if ABC won't let him? Lol.... People used to talk about the guy all the time. This is the actual footage with commentary of the incident.
  2. Who was a better receiver, Joe Popawski, Jeff Boyd, Perry Tuttle or James Murphy? I'd say that Joe Pop was probably the #4 receiver in that group. Probably the slowest & maybe even had the worst hands although that could be argued as he made many, many incredible clutch & sure handed grabs as did the others. And yet, Joe Pop reached a thousand yards receiving or was pretty damned close every year he played. It didn't matter if he was #1 or #4. he produced because he was given the chance, something Wolitarsky has not been allowed to do.
  3. I just answered based on the perameters of your question.
  4. Not the first owner who fucks things up by forgetting what got him to where he could afford a pro team in the first place.
  5. Being a father & witnessing the birth of my 2 sons.
  6. Ownership will do diddly squat. I'd love to see what another GM would do & the things he'd change. Chipman owns or his family owned car dealersships around Winnipeg. I'd loved to have worked for him. Even failure is rewarded. Don't sell a car this month? Hey, we'll just double your salary. No worries.
  7. There was this guy. MLB Mickey Doyle 1970-73. Also played for the Stamps & Lions during the 74 season. Knee injury in the 72 Western Final blew out his career. A Western Conference All Star in 1972. Middle photo.
  8. Stage 5 & 6. 8. Both management & coaches have had their chance. It's time for a change after 11 years. The problem is our owner & how committed he is to winning or continually rewarding his friends even when they fail.
  9. One of my favourites Defensive Tackle Joe Critchlow #53.
  10. Wish Buck well in his fight against cancer.
  11. That was a big dude.
  12. Casey got his degree in medicine from the University of Manitoba. He attended classes & studied while playing for the Bombers. He interned in Winnipeg & London, England before settling in Connecticut where he practiced medicine the rest of his career.
  13. "Terror must be maintained or the Empire is doomed. It is the logic of history."
  14. One of my favourite Blue Bomber player. Middle Linebacker Phil Minnick #54 chasing down Ti Cats Halfback D i c k Cohee during the 1965 Grey Cup. A bad knee injury early in the 1970 season required Minnick to miss nearly two full seasons as well as having played on some very bad football teams after this Grey Cup appearance prevented Minnick from being mentioned as one of the CFL Elites at the middle linebacker position. Had he stayed healthy & played on competitive Bomber teams, I believe he'd have been mentioned with players of his era like Jerry "Soupy" Campbell, Mark Kosmos, Don Bahnuik, Ray Nettles & Wayne Harris.
  15. That will be the last time she will have talked to him.
  16. Ron Lancaster won something like 4 games in Saskatchewan before he was fired. He then went into broadcasting for the next decade being an analyst on the CFL on CBC broadcasts & used that time to figure it out. He became an elite head coach in Edmonton & Hamilton. My guess is he learned to surround himself with great assistants & delegate authority. I think he learned to manage people.
  17. It won't let me insert. Also no icon to select for paste. Some kinda glitch.
  18. Jeezus, that was 39 years ago. Brock said in his book that he was wrong & wished he had stayed in Winnipeg. As a fan, I have no ill will towards Brock at all. Also, he played in an era where the Eskimos had the greatest run in CFL history winning 5 Grey Cups in a row. We were very good as a team but they always were a little better.
  19. I was able to download this photo of Guard Ed Kotowich #56 blocking for Gerry James #28 in the 1958 Grey Cup.
  20. I stopped posting here as I can't downlaod most photos. And I can't insert images from URL. Doesn't matter what browser I use. Notghing works. I just gave up.
  21. The Germans exterminated 6 million Jews along with another 5 million POW's so let's just stop there. Whatever Hell was brought down on them from the sky was as a result of Adolph Hitler's & his fascist Nazi party along with military & genocidal policies that had the full support of the German people. Same with the Japanese. They were butchers in occupation & killed millions of innocent civilians & POW's in Asia. Whether it's one bomb that killed a hundred thousand or 2000 bombs that killed 50 people each, war is an atrocity. But we reap what we sow. History has shown time & time again that it seldom turns out well for the conquerors. In this case, the German & Japanese.
  22. In the 1962 Grey Cup, Van Pelt was the special guest of the Blue Bombers as he had been discharged from the US Air Force & the Bombers GM Jim Ausley wanted him to come back. He ultimately said no. That must have really impressed Ploen, who was the 1961 GC MVP at qb. I wonder how pissed off he'd have been during that game?
  23. Thanks to that stupid rule, Hansen's salary is capped at what it is. Ridiculous. If a player works hard he can't be rewarded because he's from Germany. Only in the CFL.
