  1. Good point! Nice integrity as a journalist. It's like elementary school. "who are you going to vote for, and I'll do the same". Seriously lost respect for those guys. I'm usually a big defender of the sanctity of the local beat writer, but this makes me think, what's the point? What value do they really add in today's world? A good local blog site with some dedicated "amateurs" would be preferable.
  2. I came in hot on this yesterday, and today, I still feel the same. If the CFL wants to create a rule saying that any in season suspension makes you ineligible for any league awards, fine. But, no rule currently exists. So, the media's job is to choose the most outstanding in each category, not impose some individual, moral judgment in absence of a rule, or take some ridiculous "bad for CFL 2.0" stance. Your job was to vote for the most outstanding in each category, and by choosing Mike Miller for anything other than special teams, you failed at your job. If you did for click bait and hits to your site/twitter feed, well played. But, don't defend it as the right choice. It wasn't. It makes you look dumb. Particularly when Harris' numbers were so good. Leading rusher, 6 yards per carry, 500 receiving yards! And you chose Mike Miller? Still stunned, one day later. End of rant on this for me.
  3. I'm fine with that. Not sure what it should be. Do other pro leagues have a similar rule? If Kawhi Leonard or Patrick Mahomes missed a couple of games for an alleged small positive sample for a banned substance, are they immediately ineligible for any league awards?
  4. If Bauming wants to take a moral stance against Harris alleged PED use, I disagree, but okay. But his rationale about this hurting the CFL's potential in other countries is completely wrong. If the CFL wants to sell the game in other countries (ones that no little about football) you have to promote best players in those countries. If (big if) the CFL ever gains any popularity in other countries it will do so because of CFL stars becoming known there (BLM, Harris, Banks, Burnham, Jefferson, etc.), and some foreign born players eventually becoming a decent CFL player. No one in Germany or Mexico will ever be purchasing a Mike Miller jersey. They might purchase a Harris jersey. If part of the plan is to promote the CFL stars in other countries, then the media has to get on board that train! Hype the stars you idiots! Harris is a CFL star. Hall of famer. That's who football fans in other countries would get interested in.
  5. Equally upsetting for Harris today is that is team mates feel he has a Dad-Bod.
  6. Thanks for posting this. And thanks Bob for being the voice of reason and outing some of the media's true motivation. "Punishing" Harris further - just makes you look dumb as a media member and lose credibility voting for Mike freaking Miller. No offense to a good special teamer, but it's like voting John Scott to an NHL all star game. At least that was dumb fans doing it, versus a paid media members who are "experts".
  7. Thanks for letting us know. Here's a link to his article. Kudos to Wyman for outing himself and explaining his rationale. https://winnipegsun.com/sports/football/cfl/winnipeg-bluebombers/wyman-why-i-did-not-vote-for-bombers-running-back-andrew-harris-for-any-cfl-awards Couple of interesting things. Five voters locally including the head coach. Do you think O'Shea could have voted against Harris? Second - bit contradictory in his rationale. Olympians would have medals revoked, etc., but, Julian Edelman gets suspended 4 games but wins Super Bowl MVP that season, because in his mind it's a "game" award. I still say it was a miss. And a slap in the face to the team, fan base and Harris to vote Miller over him.
  8. Agree. I'd love to know who voted against Harris. Not exactly a lot of media who would be eligible - Bauming; Wyman; Irving; Hamilton; Friesen; McIntyre (?); Orlesky (?). So, somewhere between 6 - 10? Who am I missing? And they honestly thought Mike Miller was the top Canadian? Clearly a non support statement to Harris, but Miller? I could justify this if there was a close second. Like say an all star Canadian O-line like Goossen was last year. But a special teamer?! Not really even the team's best special teamer?! It's nuts. Really bad look local media.
  9. I wonder. Seems like the trend now is for NFL teams to prefer a veteran journeyman back up QB, and maybe have a draft pick or highly touted UDFA as developmental. Streveler I don’t think would be of much interest. Hybrid what? QB/RB? Doesn’t have much good CFL tape throwing
  10. I mean, BLM is playing at the peak of his powers. Best QB in the CFL. But man, very little resistance from the D
  11. Wow. BLM carving us up
  12. McManis. King of the shoulder pop versus form fit tackle. Highlights versus effectiveness. Hated coaching players like that
  13. McGuire has the best throwing motion of any Bomber QB
  14. Lapo would be a great college OC with his little misdirection running plays and direct snaps
  15. Someone text Lapo tell him Wolitarsky is still on the team
  16. So much time for BLM
  17. He does have the Riddell Great Gazoo model helmet
  18. I hate Calgary
  19. Ha! We don't like Bob?! He's great on radio play by play. Plus, his grumpy old man responses to twitter trolls kill me. Someone told him he needs a nap one time, he responded with "I like naps", Funny and likely true!
  20. That's tough to do. Based on some kind of ratio I only have in my own brain, in order: Masoli, Arbuckle, Nichols, Streveler, Collaros. Based on a completely arbitrary, in my head ratio of ability/expected contract/value of contract/age/injury history/potential/peak tier (i.e. I think Nichols has peaked as a mid or low mid tier; Arbuckle could be higher than that; Collaros was (pre multiple concussions) higher than that. This is why GM's get paid well, and get canned when they mess up. Not easy.
  21. Nope. Just speculating based on most of the time players and their agents ask for more money than their current contracts, not less. Nichols is roughly $450K now. A raise makes sense, doesn't it? And second, comparing to QB's roughly in his tier - Harris - making around $600K; Masoli - likely will be; even Franklin who is below Nichols is somewhere around $350K; Fajardo about $450K - which I think as Nichols agent I would argue for more money based on career experience. So maybe Nichols really wants to be here and takes less than comparables in the market. Is there a link to that?
  22. Maybe no one. Not saying for sure those players get released or let them walk. Just speculating on who might be considered if say Walters went after some other free agents or trades. Or who Walters will have to decide on in terms of giving increases to and for how much. How much is Jefferson worth to the Bombers? How much can he get in the CFL, assuming he doesn't get an NFL shot? Started with a hypothetical Harris salary question. I just think Harris would be one of the last players Walters would consider in terms of salary dumps. You could be right. But, player agents. Never heard of one opening negotiations with requesting the same pay or less. Especially given some new comparables out there for QB salaries.
  23. People do seem to be forgetting - surgery to throwing shoulder! Worst thing for a QB. Especially one who didn't have a gun to begin with. He's likely going to be impacted. Even if he comes back and say is 80% of what he was throwing wise, do you want to pay say $600K per year for that?
  24. For sure. And if he were some decent American RB, gone. Or some RB who is fourth in rushing in the league, gone. But he's Winnipegger Andrew Harris. Arguably the best known, most loved Bomber. And still good. 100% agree that the offensive scheme should not be built around him, or any RB. And agree we need and will free up some cash. Walters has always been good at that. Rarely takes on or extends a player we shouldn't. And has released some purely on salary. If I had to guess, some potential salary casualties - Bighill, Adams, possibly Jefferson depending on how much he wants, maybe Hardrick who I like, but could be looking for $ if his contract is up, some of the veteran DB's. And Nichols. He's the big one. I'd be shocked if Walters gives him a raise from his current deal.
