yeah that’s the use age i’d expect. woodbey is big enough to be a trend setting wil who plays like a sam, but we didn’t try him like that at all. That, and they are the best D at creating pressures, hits and top 3 in sacks. bad match up for our O

nah not even close. last year he caught 32/40, this year he has 30/43. 70% catch rate is still very good, 80% is hard to keep up for any one. Clercius is still extremely young in his career. Hes 25 in his 2nd year, and barely played wr in college. for highly polished wrs like lawler it takes a year or two to click. clercius still has tons of ceiling and time to fulfill it. and at that, he’s already an excellent guy playing a gritty role.

woodbey in at wil is strange. have to think he’s going to be the 2nd safety in place of kelly when we go with that look. Back up secondary/lber at the expense of DL is soo dumb. even for the mafia. Have no faith that schoen will be close to what he should be. Roster is ugly, hard to expect much in regina/LD. but with a below expectations roster, any thing position the field will be a nice surprise.

Former Bombers in NFL (and spring leagues) news
For us, I think best case is he sits down there, gets released late with out TC invites for next year, so signs with us early enough then is in full rookie camp forward. I'd say go into camp next year with zach, elgersma, wilson, chase, and strevy or another league vet. Then break camp and dress Elgersma as qb3. Hopefully with a vet as a qb2, and 1 qb on the PR. If chase/wilson doesn't pan out you use the PR qb spot to try out developmental guys.

It's a signing bonus, it would be paid immediately for the extension. And would allow him to be paid very, very well for the remainder of this year, while not leaving us committed to a crazy cap hit for him next year if he doesn't get NFL interest. Doesn't make a lot of sense to give him a big roster bonus for after the NFL window next year, he'd have no reason to sign that and come up here today. He may as well just wait till then. Mean while we have excessive cap room because of the lack of signings and use of the cap extension.

Former Bombers in NFL (and spring leagues) news
The UFL has no agreement with the cfl when it comes to honoring contracts or rights last I heard. Is it still going to exist? I'm doubtful. But even if it does fail, another spring league will take its place. If he sits the whole year down there, though, we lose his rights next year. I think it's just a case of they recognize how good his talent and how coachable he is, and want to see him up close to make sure they don't miss out on a 1 in a million shot. Elgersma doesn't help us this year, no matter what. But he might be our only real QB hope for the future currently. They especially love to kick the tires on Canadians. I think giving him a really fat signing bonus and the promise of release for NFL signings in the off season is the best bet for us. Other wise I bet he kicks around for another month easy.

Thomas had his contract expire, and was brought back late before camp. Lucky also had his contract expire as he ended the year on the PR. Houston left as a free agent, and Castillo did as well. I will say we've seen him bring back TC camps later in the year, and guys from previous camps, etc. I do not believe mos had any thing against adams or bringing him back. I think Darvin got to a point where he had a bounce back year on a bad team making a big big chunk of money, and the only interest in him was vet min type deals. So he moved on from football. I really liked what darvin brought, and as a person he is a great guy. I think he chose a great time and way to walk away. He played a full 18 game season for the first time in his career, he put up good numbers, walked away healthy, and with 2 rings. He isn't a guy who gets talked about alot in the 19 run, but boy he was big for us in those play offs. Right? No one is going to long for the return of Jake. His best football was in 19 and prior. And even in 19, we had stove and nevis as well. He is so far removed from being a guy you'd want it's sad.

i mean top tier arm talent, and some really impressive intangibles. he also has played the canadian game and needs to adjust to pro speed not nearly so much to cfl O/D. one year on a pr in the nfl is ideal for his development imo. after that you gotta really get into action to improve. The flashes he showed in pre season are really encouraging. lots of guys with arm talent, but for a guy to make the biggest step up in competition and immediately be competitive and comfortable is huge.

Former Bombers in NFL (and spring leagues) news
Both true. The NFL for all it's growth in the past 20 years is still extremely prone when it comes to getting in it's own way. Not as bad as baseball but pretty bad.

Yep. I'm pretty sure he will end up on some ones PR this year. He should.

ideally, id rotate ayers with shay/smith so we can go full imp dl on passing downs. put in the dime db for jones. They can follow around the lber, or drop into a shallow zone easy enough

he has, kid is soaking it up down there. he’s doing all the right things and working full time with the right people. the nfl will pass him by if he doesn’t crack an ar this year or gets hurt, it’s all gonna end real fast. tbh i think he deserves a shot on the ar of an nfl this year. I don’t think the lions are willing to take the plunge which is silly. they say they do but he’s camped on the back end of the depth chart. Which happens a lot with high upside prospects.

because his financial best interest is to sit down south the whole year and try to get on a pr. a short stint on an nfl pr would be more than a whole year of playing up here on his contract. if he sits, he maximizes his chance to earn this year, next year he could go ufl (if it stays in existence) then back to the nfl, or he could enter free agency in the cfl off the nfl and get a fat deal from any one. or try to get another nfl deal. His worst financial move would be to come back here and finish his basic contract.

love ayers. i’d rather take kyrie off and play ayers. tbh id consider taking logan back off for woods. i think we got a few options though. he only plays end in defensive heavy set packages. so goal line 3rd and 1 etc. hate dandy being cut. guess some one had to go probably staying in town. Cobb on is a given with injuries imo. atleast this week. woods runs like a mofo for a big man. which is usually a given here for imp dts. Yeah like echols. swerve is worth a shot but off an acl is a big question. echols i think is a very high floor guy who could fit really well with zach

I don't have the overall roster numbers per game this year, but Calgary, Montreal, Saskatchewan, and Toronto have all carried a bunch of bodies and rotated heavily on the DL. Calgary has 8 ol on the ar right now, 6 of which are imps. The Argos have 7, with 5 imps. The riders have 9, with 6 imps and 1 global. The Als have 7, with 3 imps plus Johnson on the IR. Those 4 teams are the top 4 teams at rushing the passer in the league. They combined have 98 sacks, the remaining 5 combine for 75. Calgary and SSK are likely the 2 best Ds in the league right now. For my money, Montreal is in the top half of defences as well, pretty easily. ott, is running 9 dl with 3imps and 1 global. Edmonton is running 10dl, with 5 imps. Bc is running 10 with 5 imps. And Hamilton is running 7 with 5 imps. We've got 7, with 4 imps. Though we ran more than half of the year so far with 6 and 3-4. So the TLDR is, average league-wide is 8.22 DL on the ar, 4.66 imps. Each team starts 1, and Di/back-ups just under 2. If you have Canadians who can pass rush, or fringe starters as back-ups rotating heavily, you can get away with less. If you don't, teams are running a lot of DL to rotate currently. But we are not doing really either. We don't put out a lot of DL bodies, and we don't have quality ni pass rushers.

need to find a way to get more Safteys who can't cover anyone, and 1-dimensional lbers on the roster. No other back-ups. And maybe we can start a lber at wr to sneak them on... Ayers get a new number!

Former Bombers in NFL (and spring leagues) news
Very likely, but the talent level overall would've dipped and made the game much harder to watch, especially for casual fans. Like the late 90s when the gap between imps and nis was gigantic. We would've been hit hard league-wide at OL. I think most teams would've had to start 3-4 imports. We had a lot of good ni ol in that time who likely would've been the prime targets.

Denmark is never too far removed from another come back... Or wr streveler lol. He tore his ACL last year and missed the whole year.

Blue Bombers - 2025 Regular Season - Discussion Thread
Maybe both. Hard to believe he's 28 eh? Bout to turn 29 though. Still, younger than Echols somehow. But yeah, he's an undersized guy who plays hard. 5 seasons and almost 300 catches under his belt. He isn't shot, but he isn't fresh as a daisy either. I like both moves better than running out Cody or pushing Schoen back early. Plus, I like how these guys are a reasonable balance of vet experience and youth. They are great guys to push who we have.

Blue Bombers - 2025 Regular Season - Discussion Thread
Yeah, I mean that's a clear improvement over a chunk of guys we've run out at WR this and last year.

Blue Bombers - 2025 Regular Season - Discussion Thread
I don't hate this move, actually. Doesn't have a ton of wear on him, really interesting athlete with good experience and reasonable success. He's got a great first and second gear, very twitchy, explosive. And has a top gear, but is missing about 2 mid gears to make the most out of his top-end speed. He has probably 3 gears more than you can even use in football. He was a really good 200m runner, 100m, and amazing jump ability. He's a real solid back up PR/KR as well. Could do a lot of damage in catch and run stuff, and also on the sweep plays.

I still hope He sticks for a year on the PR down south. And I think his chances should be pretty good with one team or another. Not only does he have the raw upside, but he's managed to translate that to gameplay in the pre-season. That's a big deal especially for a high upside raw talent guy.
