Former Bombers in NFL (and spring leagues) news
Unless it was just changed, the IPP does not apply to Canadians. It only applies to kids born outside of North America. If it was included, we would be seeing a lot more first through 4th round pick types sitting in the NFL for a year. Seriously, it would completely decimate our draft. I beleive players have to be signed to the IPP in the first place as well, I don't think they can be recerftified to IPP after signing.

If Demski is ok, I expect he will go no matter what, but we need him ok at least, and Schoen is better than the replacement level imp we've seen this year (which isn't asking much), and we get Wilson back in this 3-4 game stretch, our WR core should be plenty good. Also, if Sterns is ok to, he's not lighting the world on fire, but he's filled the Bailey role in the WR core. Tons of effort, toughness, busts his ass no matter what happens or where the ball goes, reliable catcher who Zach can lean on. I'm not wild on Houston, but if he smartens up, it's hard for him to be worse than Lawson Jr./Bridges have been. I don't think Vaval is the answer at the other corner currently either, but I also don't expect massive changes in short order. It's crazy how much DL success we had with the rotation and limited NI reps, and then when Lawson is healthy, what do we do? Give 90% of inside reps to NIs and go back to more than 30 fronts with all Canadians. If we don't see the full bolstering of IMP WRs, I'd look long and hard at dressing Vanterpool when healthy. But not taking Wallace off, I'd play a lot of 6 OL packs even on passing plays. Say, play Vanterpool inside of Randolph. He's better inside than out, and Randolph has played a lot of blocking TE stuff going back to college. Vs 40 fronts, you have 3 blocking 2 on both sides of the line. You take the decision away from Kola largely as well, as he'd be blocking mostly away from the strong side. Then you have 2 guys who can split off doubles to pick up blitzes, twists etc, plus Brady on block and release. We aren't spreading the field or stretching Ds well any way, I'd rather give zach extra time than an extra shallow target under neath the D.

That, with Demski being OK, would be gigantic. But boy, is all that a reach to happen on short notice.

Blue Bombers - 2025 Regular Season - Discussion Thread
I've been saying for a while that Sask isn't what their record indicates. They've skated by on some smoke and mirrors. When I look at the last game, it gives me some optimism that we can turn it around, and once more punt the riders on the back-to-back. When I look at the previous month and the games most of this year, though, it gives me cause for concern. I think, as it often has, the roster makeup will be a strong indicator. If we get Lawson Jr. off for Houston/Dandy, get Woods on somehow, and get a serious boost to the WR somehow, it will be a great sign we are going to move in the right direction. Our DBs as is, with the heavy rotation of the 3 NI DTs over all imps, I don't think our D could hold up to the riders' O. And with out a much improved WR core, I don't think our O has a chance at keeping up with the riders O.

Hamilton might not be better than .500 when we play them. Their splits at home and vs the west are bad as well. Bc was above .500 when we beat them as well. I actually think Hamilton is the most likely to win for us. They are 2-2 at home and 2-4 vs the West. While we are 2-3 on the road, we are also just 3-3 vs the West. With all that said, though, since the schedule is so poorly balanced, it is really hard to place value on the strength of schedule and record vs X situation. So damn many home and away series, season series wrapped up in 1/3 of the year, 2 away games in 5 days, type of situations. I think the road to us winning 2 of 3 would likely start with a blowout in the LDC. If we get slapped and SSK hangs a big number, they might have a considerable hangover in the BJB and struggle on O, giving us a chance to finally answer back for being punched in the mouth. Then, if we roll that into some momentum in Hamilton, we could thread the needle and turn lemons into lemonade. I think that would likely require some tough changes after the LDC, though. I think the likely case is that we get swept, and that's the wake-up call to bring some urgency to Hamilton. Our "one week at a time" thing went from playing each game like the play offs to preping for each game like its week 1. And the previous games review went from not getting too big a head from winning most weeks to writting off loses cus hey it's a new week and we just go 1-0!

I'd rather see him in more game action, but that would mean losing games. I don't want to get rid of him, but I also don't think he ends up being an impact qb. Still seems all tools no intangibles. I would keep an older qb on the roster because even older and injured they both provide more value. I think I was duped by a couple of cut projection lists, actually, my bad.

I’d try to get strev or chase onto the ir. strev has some value around the league and I’d try to trade him before cutting. You could cut chase and have him back in next years tc. but i think elgersma needs more involvement than pr. Strev can win a game, ugly or other wise, in a pinch when starting. I don’t think wilson can. so if i really had to choose right now, It’d be wilson.

elgersma also cut. might make the pr, though clifford knows the system.

honestly idk. the ldc/bib is heavily skewed towards a split. the only firm statement i see is if some one sweeps. other wise i expect us to be in a similar position in 3 weeks. Id say we have a 80% chance of being 1-2, a 5%chance of going 0-3, a 5% chance of 3-0 and a 10% chance of 2-1. 7 teams are with in 3 games right now. if we go 0fer we are still in the play off picture. if one of the 3 win teams goes 0 fer their season is over. if the riders go 0 fer they still are in the hunt for a home play off game.

serviceable is a far cry from top tier, and still we don’t have the ability to add a bunch of players mid season. how would you retool mid season? placing each year isn’t really to do with a mid season retool or an off season one either

they did some player appearance things at fsu as soon as nil came in. guys like wilson made 170-200 bucks an hour. i’d bet he made in the 20-30k range, sounds like they worked it pretty well for the early days. Since the cap went up 500k, and we likely came in under the previous cap plus have 6game savings, we should have a pretty good nut to offer wilson. which makes me wonder 1, what’s he worth to get up asap? and what would it take? 200k for 2 years with 100k upfront? with the standard agreement that he can work out and if an nfl team wants to sign him in the off season we let him go. It’s high value for a one year guy, but i think that’d be what it takes to move him quickly.

off season sure you can rebuild in one year, if you can add a top tier qb. mid season? where do you find talent mid season in this era?

Even healthy post injury, can't remotely expect him to be the same guy.

he isn’t that calibre either though. until he comes back and finds that level of sustained play, he’s damaged goods.

Not only did we pick the worst of the bunch of wrs available, and give up the best wr on the market, we actually made the guys we took in worse. I like Sterns, he's a gutsy little guy with tons of effort. Doesn't have the talent or athleticism of Dressler, but he's a good guy to have as the last imp in your starting rotation of wrs. The problem is, every one is the complementary guy, and they all seem to be waiting for some one else to be Kenny lawler. Demski has stepped his game up a good level this year, but he's taken a hell of a battering here and is now banged up. And our offence isn't designed around demskis tool set. We aren't set up for catch and run down field stuff.

even going back to last year with wheatfall, he was boom or bust. As a step forward year 2 guy, it's not likely he takes another big step forward. Not impossible, but far from likely. He's a valuable guy, but he's the guy you need a specific set of assets around him to help him perform. He needs a no1 guy to pull the D, and some one of the unit who stretches deep so he only faces loose 1on1 cover.

maas sounds like he’s copied a lot out of mos coaching play book. hes matured a ton from his earlier days as a coach

3 stars plus hh out meh the als
1 brady. ofc carried the team today. 25-210 yards 2 zach. protected the ball, got it out fast and made good decisions couple tough throws 3 cam allen. some good cover, couple great hits separated wrs from balls which changes how teams can attack you. hh sterns bone jarring catch over the middle block of the game to strevy as a wr lead blocking for brady had a good edge seal crappy honker to that stupid ass siren dunce caps to lawson jr, form tackling on d, hogan honorable mention to strevy for doing a lot in light of injuries, wallace, wilson in short yardage, jones, and wj Unsung hero award to Person. he didn’t record a stat, but he tipped holms pick and had atleast 5 key pressures plus a couple hits. bonus points to having lapo in the booth. he’s soo damn good and improves the quality of life watching games by a ton

morgan’s poise and resilience reminds me a lot of brown.
-
Winnipeg Blue Bombers @ Montreal Alouettes GDT
yep and that not a knock against this kid. morgan is a gooder. but a rookie shouldn’t be this effective against your d when you’ve prepared for him.
