Highly regarded student athlete. 90%+ hs&college. One of the higher rated UDFA. 30" vert, 8'8" broad jump, 21 reps. Was squating near 400 and benching near 350 in HS. All the reports say his raw tools would put him in the top tier athletically of OL. Knock on him is his technique and footwork need work. Sounds like a perfect guy to have wylie work with.
  2. In, John Kling. 6'7 315 buffalo Out; WR outlaw, DL eric martin, DL erik williams, and lb nick temple.
  3. Randle has looked very good aside form one blown coverage. This scheme doesnt show off the talent of Des, and burnette covers more ground then wild. Hes just raw and not at wilds level atm.

That would be a good fight. I dont see him leap frogging holloway though. A bunch of good fighters in that division, but not a lot going on thanks to the cash grab fights with mcg.
  5. what a troll. who is trading starting ni's especially wrs right now? Not overly surprised by this trade, glad we got some thing for him and cleared up our log jam a bit at the same time. Would have preferred a draft pick or some thing. Hope the neg lister is decent. I too hate that the neglist names are put out at all any more. id give hammer an A on this one. And a B- for us.
  6. Id say coaching in football has a bigger impact on the product on the field then any other sport. Soo many moving pieces and different ways go about doing things. Even more so in this modern era of football. One need only look at the size of a play book these days to see that. But at the end of the day its still 100% dependent on execution. its the same system we've run all year. its still at its heart football, and these guys have played it most of their lives. Some times a team is just better, and some times a team just plays better. Insert confounding richieism here.
  7. Id say early on they had planned for our defense very very well and we didnt adjust well to that. They coached better and we didnt out play that coaching and execution or even come close to it.
  8. isnt durant hurt again? Or banged up atleast? Yeah you cant spot teams a big lead especially top teams. And they dont have that running game that calgary does.
  9. Its because he tries to hammer american systems and terms into the canadian game. Pattern matching is the system developed in the US to counter a spread offense that will still run the ball. Especially running out of the same spread formations they pass from. Cover 2 / tampa 2 style defence leaves you with 2-3 deep against 4 routes, and means you cant crash the box on run plays. Pattern matching is a hybrid zone man cover. So a db has a zone, lines up over a wr, engages and covers through his zone and when they leave his zone a switch happens. Another db picks up and he grabs another target or fills a more traditional zone. Often the play doesnt run that long so if they dont have a target they will track a pass, a pass catcher, or play deep. Its especially meant for crossing routes, rub routes, and teams that will send more deep routes then you have deep cover. (think a wr over load blitz) Up here we play our version in match zone. Its big against zone read patterns. Because of the number of pass catching targets to DBs that cover its not viable to regularly play cover 3+ unless your against the most aggressive deep pass offense ever. We play a kind of match zone with a soft over shell of dbs. We rotate the soft spot from side lines short, middle of the field, and corners. Down in the US they dont have to run those same empty spots on the field. The specific situation hes talking about, The DL sub almost never happens save for late game late half situations some times. We do how ever have the package where we drop one lber for one db. We used it for a while early on with macho coming in. But it wasnt as a safety role, it was as a DHB.

Yeah I agree with that. Not overly pleased with the idea of them consolidating belts of 2 divisions with 2 guys who have no title defenses. I hope to see a showtime holloway fight in the near future.
  11. there has been mention of him not playing and I think he is nicked up but im not sure. Do most of you guys want chris jones back? at this rate do you think he will be there next year? At this point if I was him and had any job security Id start gale and air lifted young guys to try and find more to build off for next year. Yeah pretty much. Even the cooled down rate is really high. Yeah the calgary loss in it self isnt panic worth. As moral a loss as you can have. Could be what the team needs to take a step into sustained winning. Edm is good and hot should be a great game im pretty excited for it.
  12. Yeah frederick has been great at every chance to play. If he and heath draw in thatll be great. Pretty much, i hope we get great turn out and show the fan support turn around to match the teams turn around. The rider fans all over the net are championing this. They are sure they will win out cross over and crush the stamps in the GC lol. I want to see them with the third over all pick in the draft. So if they lose and win that bc game itd be prefect.
  13. The last 4 or so games the luster has come off our defense some what. With darian durant driving the ball at will for long periods of time, a young but passed around qb tossing 4 quick tds against us to blm and the stamps being the stamps. 8 sacks, 6 fumble recoveries. 4 interceptions, (2 games with none) Passing numbers against; 110 / 160 (69%) 1,314 (328.5 YPG) 8tds 65 carries (5 YPC) 333 yards rushing (83 yards per game) 4 tds 411.5 yards per game, 100 points (25 ppg) Our season averages, including early and points scored on teams and generally not against our defence are; 23ppg, 2 sacks per game, 1.7 ints per game 1+ FF per game. 20.4 ppg before those last 4 games including again points scored on teams etc. Its fair to say our defense wasnt as good as its hot streak and isnt as "bad" as it has been the last 4. With health, and consistency we should be seeing our real D the next few weeks. Edm is playing good football atm, and we are going into the thick of our schedule. I think the level at which our defense plays the last portion of the schedule is going to dictate how good we are this year. And with our guys getting healthy, I am pretty excited.
  14. to be fair, he was playing in one of the worst offensive systems in modern league history with a mega ton of qbs and poor OL. With denmark in, a ton of young guys in camp and the big 2 plus the emergence of mcduffie should have the bubble guys playing there best game. Short of a passport or the last name dressler, no wr is safe right now. Heath is the HB and frederick plays corner. With the way our D has been picked apart since the LDC i wouldnt be surprised to see a few different pairings to see who is gonna step up. Personally I think the best group is frederick, randle, heath, fogg and one of adams/johnson as the extra DI.

McG vs alvarez now head lines ufc 205. Mcg really needs to defend that belt, having him fight a champion vs champion bout with out a defense is silly. Pure cash grab by the ufc. Aldo is requesting his release from the ufc, dana white has reportedly said no. 205 is looking good. with joanna J, cerrone gastelum, weidman romero, woodley thompson and the mcg alvarez fight. The prelim is looking really good too. End of the year is gonna be slim at this rate. I really wish they would cut back the number of events and make more solid cards. Rumor has it RR wants to accept cyborgs fight at 140. But just a few days ago nunes RR was close to booked. If i was cyborg id start going to the ring with the invicta belt. Or have buffer list her nick name as feather weight champion.
  16. A lot of people would be surprised how many players on a team can throw a decent pass. Aside from a small amount of players who were too big or played on power house state champion machines most teams put there best athlete at QB, especially when they are young to see if they can turn into a great qb. I remember blink and stokes tossing a couple beauty passes here. Its a lot of fun to watch some of those games where the kid at QB is a top tier athlete.
  17. so any place in winnipeg during the summer XD if he turns out to be good well have to start a fund.
  18. im guessing your looking only at position charts and line ups. We dont play 100% zone defense, and Dbs switch cover targets. Some times on certain looks, other times during rub routes where the wrs patter takes him cross face on the db. especially during back peddle.
  19. they didnt run 7+ blockers. That very seldom happens in the cfl. Calgary has given up the least sacks and its for good reason. We blitz very very sparingly. We stunt. We've seen difference co ordinators and the same types of systems under MOS. this is clearly his system and isnt changing while hes here. And atm it doesnt look like hes going any where. yes we do. But we play gap responsible. And got out played by the best OL unit in the league. A minor issue in a game with many major ones. BLM was getting big passes quickly. Our coverage didnt leave him standing in the pocket long. It was a team failure on D, not one dimensional. That said idk what this has to do with a thread about signing 2 wrs....
  20. theres some truth to that. Those schools put out guys who interview well, are prepared for the testing etc. No level of success in college means you will succeed in the pros. If you can find a big school guy with the tool set to succeed in the cfl its an exciting combo though. Davis numbers werent considered great, but when you factor in how heavily they ran the ball it is much more impressive. hes been a quiet monster for us. Trent corney could use more play time, but then we dont have depth behind westerman. Martin has potential at end but needs play time to round out into some thing consistent.
  21. or maybe today is the 7th day since we signed that group.
  22. both times at that. Wish we had some up dates on the long term injuries.
  23. Thats not an "official" time. He had a series of fast hand times all the way down to 4.25. His electronic times are in the 4.3s The correction factor for a hand timed 40 yard dash is +.16 seconds. So that 4.25 is actually a 4.41 hes fast, though. And football fast at that. His eletronic timed 4.32 is about right. Davis is a big strong fundamental wr. Very, very polished. Catches any thing any where near him. Isnt a fast guy. But has the route running and hands to make up for it. Was a very good blocker as well. Heavily under used in a run offense. He was a favorite as a dark horse for the nfl draft for a long time. And at one time before he broke his leg he was considered a good for him 40 yard dash away from being a first round pick. (4.5s) The last batch of guys still seem to be getting taught the game. Though i would expect to see more from them in practice in the next 2 weeks.
  24. idk about his contract status, but we cant keep him on the 2man IR forever, and i for one never expect players who are healthy and hot to willingly sit on the IR long term waiting for a chance. especially if its a guy that would be gone quickly after hitting the PR.
