  1. I wonder where rhymes ends up, pretty surprised he’s still available. wonder if he’s expecting a crazy pay day that no one is willing to dish out
  2. I don’t think he is, he’s had a ton of wear in his career. I’d say more than any other qb in the league. More concussions than the rest of the starting qbs in the league, hand injuries etc In a perfect world we wouldn’t have signed zach, and would’ve gotten better value the last 2 years. That said, we don’t have any options this off season. 100%, no excuses. Going into the year with a very strong offence.
  3. zach doesn’t seem the type to be actively thinking about retiring or it being his last year. We all know the reality of his situation. that said, we’ve added soo much to the offence how could you not want to play and be excited? No doubt zachs entire focus is on this season coming. As it should be. I don’t think zach will call it quits. I think he will require us telling him he’s not coming back one day for him to pack it in.
  4. this is usually on archive after right? Makonzo signed with toronto. Strange to not bring him back after sitting on him for a year.
  5. I think that is a big part of it. I also think we kept sitting on money for flexibility. Glad that is over and we are back to competing in free agency.
  6. he is. who ever reps him in the us is not doing him a service
  7. We are clearly back in win now mode. We reached a bit for him, but with the nfl interest and pre season his value should be up if any thing. The draw is mainly in making a hype move, which is still valuable for half the league. I’d be happy if we took a former high pick, and got a mid round pick, or moved up in the global draft, or got other creative value. Some one like manu might be a worthy mix in for a team stock piling futures. Go out and find a qb who is quick enough to reliably make the first man miss when breaking the pocket and fast enough to out run cfl ends to the corner on boundary side. If he is coach able enough to stay low on the short yardage pack, you have a better qb3 than most teams in the league. (sad statement that is) And really put pressure on wilson, chase, and especially perkins to step up. No failing down into qb2, and 3 spots. Make one win qb2, or send them all home.
  8. Nfl tc money is not the same as pr though. Last year, players with less than 1 year service got 1850 a week. this year that goes up to 2k. For a full camp, plus the pre season games, guys with less than a year service get around 11-15k. Which is in the range of 15-20k canadian, before taxes. It only takes a couple weeks on a pr to out earn a cfl deal, but elgersma isn’t in that position. He as of yet hasn’t gotten a futures contract or camp invite even. To get that, he will now have to beat out an entire new rookie crop. This based off a preseason appearance, and a cis resume. He isn’t rourke, and rourke has basically no leverage and got barely a shot. I understand chasing nfl pr money, but he isn’t making some easy, economically sound decision. He’s gambling for more money with a pretty small chance of wining. The time to get a look now is counting down his nfl widow days after a cfl deal as well. If he kicks around for another year then comes up, he puts him self in a tight spot. He turns 25 next month, it’s going to be 2 years before he would get nfl consideration if he fast tracks to success. At that point he’s 28 for the next nfl camp, right at the end of his nfl window. I get it, but it’s long term, short odds gambling. At this point, I’d be happy if we traded his rights and sold high on him.
  9. clercius is 26, and started for a bit over a year and a half. Stoddard was in the league 9 years and broke 500 yards twice. Clercius last year was better than 5 of stoddards 9 years in the league and on the heels of his 6th best year. its a terrible comparison, if any thing corcoran is a poor man’s stoddard in a far better era for ni wrs.
  10. He played nfl pre season and performed very well. That’s a lot more than chase did. For a young qb, every snap matters. production in any area matters. Also, an nfl tc and rookie camp is worth two cfl camps and a year on the pr. Much higher level coaching, higher level of competition. Neither of those guys are gonna produce or should have any expectation this year. if elgersma is here and if chase is even here after rookie camp. The arm talent is pretty close, id say elgersmas tool kit translates better to the cfl. Also his experience with the canadian game is incredibly value able. Arm talent to compete in nfl camp plus experience in the canadian game is extremely valuable. We don’t know what he’s really worth, because this isn’t some thing we’ve seen before. Winning helps the most to draw. Outside of that, not much is worth sacrificing any thing on the field for. Canadian qbs aren’t going to save the league, the next wave of qbs will save or sink the league. If things continue as is with qb talent in the cfl, you might start seeing more cis kids play. Not much further down for us to go once the old guys are gone.
  11. no he doesn’t. watch him run routes, watch him run with the ball in his hands. Hes done a great job of putting up yac too. he only gets looks when cover is busted or completely off him. he can’t get open vs any cfl defender. People are soo quick to forget that clercius has caught 72 of 97 targets in his career. with 10.6 yards per catch, vs under 9 yards per for corcoran. Which is brutal. Take a look at how many wrs had under 9 ypc, and how many of them had good seasons. Over 50 guys, and one good season. Because it’s easy to catch em all, when you’re underneath the coverage and barely off the los.
  12. Clercius isn't slow. 4.5 speed, one of the fastest few in his draft year. Almost the same speed as Mital. He plays the spot he does because he's also outlier strong with great size and tremendous blocking skill.
  13. Yeah, and I can’t see zach being that fragile. hes also a guy who has always tossed it up and hoped for the best. his touch hasn’t been the same for a couple years either clercius doesn’t seem to fit that either. this is a guy who stayed at his college despite them moving on to younger guys because he was way off their time line to be good. he accepted a role blocking playing teams and helping develop young guys. I don’t see him suddenly being all ego and speaking out against his qb
  14. Oh thats easy, its every canadian wr the riders have/bring in LOL 4 catches though, Schoen, Peterson, Cooley all had much better pre seasons catching the ball. White too. 2 rbs, and 1 guy with 1 good leg. if it was 20-25 years ago I would be too. But the game has changed significantly
  15. I always overcomplicate solutions like this, but here is what I would do. If a draft pick get an NFL camp invite or NFL combine invite, they are automatically qualified for "Super rookie" status. The salary range for them then goes up to say 90-120k. 2 years of CFL rights, with the NFL window still after year 1. Any player who makes an NFL PR or AR is treated like any veteran FA, but with exclusive rights held by the drafting team.
  16. We need to draft a wr this year, who is actually a primary pass catcher with potential to start and be average or better. Cobb is at least average for a backup WR. With some attributes. Its insane that they put Corcoran above cobb and on par or better than clercius.
  17. Do not like how he lumped Corcoran in with Clericius. Clercius is a wr with tremendous raw tools who has caught everything thrown his way. Corcoran is like Wade Miller on a low-battery mobility scooter.
  18. Maybe trade with toronto or ott. Our first, and third for their first and second, be nice to swap a global pick to move up too. A nat imp offence x-factor/wr would be a fantastic fit. A nat imp offence x-factor/wr would be a fantastic fit.
  19. I would've taken the shot on Mauldin too. But yeah, UFL bound. Im guessing that means no one was really interested. He probably looks to get a deal up here after a good UFL season if things go well. I don't think the call is gonna come. That season ends pretty eary too. Maybe he is just wanting to robert gordon some extra bucks AFL style. No one is gonna pay him what he got after his one good season, or close to it. For sure. He'd be a free Canadian lottery ticket. If Costello fixes him, you're laughing. Even if he's a 6th ol. If not, you cut him out of camp.
  20. You're right, he isn't more than a stopgap. If, however, he can stop the gap, as can a DT can, you can groom a young Canadian to fill the role. Be they a CIS kid, or an NCAA kid. Honestly, the upside of the upper-tier CIS OL and NCAA OL isn't some big gap. The upper-tier cis kids are generally very toolsy athletic outliers these days. lol, listening to his and Zach's orders from McDonald's on the podcast a while back was pretty funny. Thats a good pick up, but I think the ti cats got bad info on Gittens. He never played for the bombers. Maybe they intended to sign Case instead?
  21. Neuf was also originally a T. If any thing playing T after a career at G is going to be harder, especially when mobility has been such an issue for neuf the past few years. Usports kids didn’t get shots at many positions, until they started to. Now some positions are normalized that used to be ratio breakers
  22. we put paddy at T over the past two years, including atleast two starts. We’ve also seen teams push dts into play at T. Shepley was playing rt in the nfl and will likely be starting at t for the argos this year. In this era, the gap to playing T isn’t huge like it was in the early 2ks. For one, you get away with murder in terms of holding now. For two, teams will pinch a wr or back to force an end into an under performing T and take away the looping rush lane. for 3, ol across the board are far more athletic. Canadian and american, the guys who aren’t on their last leg can move. For 4, we haven’t had any dominant elite edge rushers for a long while. It’s about disruption today not hits and sacks. 3t is a bigger danger to the qb than de most of the time. We just don’t get those fringe nfl edge rushers any more. The majority of the monster size linemen we see (canadians) are raw as hell. So they get slipped in at g. With the guys coming into the league now, we could easily be seeing more canadian Ts. The league is just stagnant in terms of innovation. No one thinks it’s worth the risk to break the mold.
  23. blind side tackle isn’t what it used to be, and was not as big a deal in the cfl with 5 ol and no te. Plus, with the massive prominence of pistol and shotgun up here over the past 20-25 years, you haven’t been able to sneak up on and burry the qb from behind. From the pistol/gun you have equal view of the ends through out the whole play. Down south, especially in the past, they played a massive amount of passing snaps from under the gun, and once you turned to throwing position and took a step back you turned your back to the rusher on the lt side. Because of that, in the nfl, they heavily pressed the end on the offensive left side to be a premier rusher. but that passed down there 10-15 years ago. The Rt side was often the run side and so has the te a lot of the time on his shoulder, which helped as well.
  24. he is, you can do worse for end of the roster canadians. That said I think it’ll be a battle in camp, they like ball and kelly too. One things for sure, we don’t need teams playing back up canadians. we need rotational guys.
