  1. sack did really mess him up though. It took a long time to over come that first stretch. I’d be surprised if they did too. Only way I see it is if it’s a fb with another position. A rb, a te type who can play wr etc. and I don’t think we will even do that. To me, it would make a lot of sense to bring back Konnor burtenshaw, and Daniel petermann. Pete is 28 and a fa. Then spend late picks on another wr and maybe fb to bring into camp. Cole Adamson was being moved to ol, but he’s undersized and pretty athletic. If he could execute fb stuff that’d be an easy way to get a spare ol on the roster with out losing out. Any athletic undersized lineman would be a decent candidate to fill that roster spot.
  2. 1k yards in 2 seasons is not a success indicator. That’s pretty much replacement level 6th wr stuff. Spending a first on that isn’t great value. Both have upside still but if it doesn’t happen in year 3 it isn’t likely to happen. If that’s the high water mark of success, then you might be better off drafting a fb rather than a wr where you have a 1/5 chance over 10 years of getting the last wr on the roster.
  3. How many combined receiving yards do the philpots have in their career 900? 500 combined last year? Between the 6 years of all three they have what 2k yards? Considering that’s the best first round for WRs in the league in about a decade that’s not much of an endorsement. Not many firsts have been wasted on FBs atleast. Wr is a trap pick in the first round of the cfl draft.
  4. I wonder what is historically a worse pick in the first round of the cfl draft, a fb or a wr. Fb is probably worse but not by that much I imagine. I’d be fine if we took two ol instead of ol and fb even. We need a wr or two but I don’t think it needs to be a huge investment.
  5. This, or any sports forum likely won’t be a happy place then.
  6. My cos play analyst says once the first team picks an ol, the panic run in ol will begin. With a good 5 out of 7 picks following it being an ol. I’d love to see us grab a couple guys who will be in nfl camps refill the futures cupboard in the mid or late parts of the draft. But if we get one guy who becomes a starter and two decent role guy that will be a big win.
  7. It sure seems like both drafts are great candidates to fill out gaps if we can manipulate the draft and get quality picks at positions of need. This could well be a team that is much better in the final 1/3rd of the season as well.
  8. Pretty much. If we see an improvement in pass pro, which frankly I expect, we will be in good shape. If however we can find an impact player especially in the front 6, that’s a game changer. We need to replace JJ full time, instead of half time, but I think we will manage. Teams is going to be a battle to watch in camp as well. Going to be tough if we struggle kicking off/punting and covering especially if grant isn’t back to over compensate for a lot of field position.
  9. Right now I think we are an 11 win team still in the late season battle for first/second in the west with bc. But if our ol doesn’t replace rt well, or find a new impact player on D that could be plus or minus 2 very easily even before injuries are considered. I think this will be the closest the top teams have been in the cfl in years. All the play off teams could be with in like 2 wins of each other.
  10. Back to back choke jobs. Should have 4x gc wins in a row including one in igf west.
  11. 5.1 40 for a 320 plus pound guard is actually good. It’s about 90th percentile in the nfl. The average nfl guard runs almost a 5.4 while weighing 314. 7 guards were faster this year at the nfl combine and not insanely. In the range of a tenth of a second. I find it interesting that we are looking at an imp who likely only projects as a guard.
  12. That was the entire point of the comment and response prior to yours. I mentioned in the previous post he made the pro bowl after leaving here…
  13. He was a pro bowler after his return to the nfl from Winnipeg. Not in his first stint when we left Edmonton.
  14. For me, I would spend the nut on a defensive front guy. Dominate in both trenches and the rest takes care of it self. If not on the front, and with schoen tied up I’m happy it’s bo. I’d a really hated seeing him in another market.
  15. At what 18 or 19 no less? And was an instant stud on teams to the point he got to the nfl for a few years. np. Yeah me too. Some truly amazing talent will nearly disappear from memory in a while because the only video looks like it was filmed on a potato.
  16. This will probably piss some people off who through the lens of nostalgia will remember sellers as a perfect player but here goes. Big mike was such a rare and unique talent, he was much more valuable than a fb, but at the same time less effective in some areas than other much lesser FBs. He was, one of the greatest blocking backs in football history. He was as good as an extra tackle in both run pro and pass pro. He had tremendous hands, can’t count how many times I saw him pick passes out of the air or off his shoe laces. But he had a tendency to look up field and drop some easier ones. with a head of steam he was one of the hardest guys to tackle in the league. But this was also his biggest fault. He needed a good bit of room to get up to speed. If contact was made with in a few yards of him getting the ball, he was much easier to tackle. Most FBs excel in short yardage. We frequently used blink in short yardage because he hit the hole soo fast and hard he was tough to stop. He could also squirt though a tiny gap and turn a 1 yard dive into a 50 yard gain. Sellers didn’t run particularly well out of a fb position. For instance the game Charlie missed and where mike decimated the riders defence in Winnipeg, we ran out of extemely deep sets with him 7 yards back, or on delays from shot gun. He had a big td production season in the nfl where they did the same with him, or wrapped him from the back side h back spot to the play side. Sellers however, was also one of the best teams players. From blocking, to kick cover where he broke into the league. He was a pro bowl caliber teams guy, blocker, red zone threat, great catcher, and had devastating power. He wasn’t alstott, but he was probably the most valuable player at fb in the modern and semi modern history of the league.
  17. Yeah lacks the elite coaching lineage, and is at a low point in his career. Still tremendous get for the stamps and league. Hawaii would’ve been better off with him, by a lot.
  18. Agree. It’s interesting what that might say about Calgary. No way is he up here to be just an oc medium to long term. How much control will DD give to him as well. he kind of gets a bit of a raw deal with maier too.
  19. 2 time big sky coach of the year, the best qb coach in the biggest cfl qb pipeline and the best team in that pipeline. I’d say this is the biggest fresh to the cfl coaching addition the league has seen in a long time.
  20. https://3downnation.com/2024/03/24/brendan-taman-embraced-haunted-hotel-room-paranormal-assistance-at-cfl-combine/ Taman has gone from the Rolodex of players names on subway napkins to ghosts in the fort Gary hotel helping him scout lol
  21. Herzog wasn’t near that bad. 4.55 40 39” vert 10’ broad 6.94 3cone 4.2 shuttle Augustine 4.77 40 30.5” vert 9’2 broad 7.34 3cone 4.4 shuttle herzogs numbers are better than some imports we’ve signed this and most years Chisari was similar range but a bit better than Augustine’s numbers. Augustine put up 22 reps which would’ve tied hladik for most among backs. to put it into perspective herzogs relative athletic score for the nfl is 7.4 out of 10 his scores main weakness is his height and weight. Augustine’s RAS is 1.23. His main weakness is every thing other than the bench press. * the ras doesn’t include the split run times for either as It isn’t listed from the cfl. Going off some nfldraft scout times Herzog would go down to a 5.89 out of 10. Those times aren’t super reliable though. And that’s still a ton Better than say grant at under 3. Brady would’ve had a 7.33 with all Poor running numbers. If Brady had run herzogs sprint numbers he would’ve scored almost a 9 and been nfl bound for sure.
  22. Next fb we roster is going to be a monster producer like mike sellers. But he will be standing in the shoulders of the giant that is damnian Jackson. next time we sign a guy with a heavy military pedigree I’m gonna be real nervous and suspicious. Next guy maybe Schmekel again.
