That's true, but to be fair, we used to dress more DL. We've always built rosters in strange ways. It's important to remember that with the CFL roster rules and the reality of NI talent depth, you are going to be carrying suboptimal guys. And once injuries hit, it will get worse. That makes it all the more important to build and develop rosters intelligently. Some things you need in terms of backups on a CFL roster, A db who is a man cover guy, a couple dbs who can cover a zone, a couple big bodies for the trenches, dl and ol who can go the other way, one or two wrs who can run and catch, one or two guys who can play rb, teamers, back up holder/snapper/ and emergency kicker/punter. In the modern era, you really need a backup DI and ni/g run stopper/pass rusher who is effective. When you have 24 starters and 44/45 players on the AR, you should be able to cover those needs. The problem starts with DI usage. You basically need a DI DL (which we neglected many times since 21), and a DI DB. Really, a DI wr as well. But we carry a DI KR and DI K. We are married to that and have been for a long time. We are also married to carrying a DI Lber for team play. Combine that with the fact that we refuse to declare a naturalized import, and we are left trying to plug Canadians into positions where you would use a DI. And the problem worsens when our scouting has been worse than hit or miss, and development of talent even worse. We don't have the ability to roster our basic needs, and little flexibility to afford luxuries that would help us out a lot. But we spend roster allotment on luxuries, like we still have the 21 team in the locker room.

7th ol vs a te who can’t run or block, but also with other back up blockers. You need some extremely versatile guys who create opportunities to carry specialists with low use. a starter who kills it on teams, or a guy who can rotate at many spots and back up all over the roster. Also finding canadians who are very good specialists or versatile is huge. We don’t have much of that any more.

Schmekel is the emergency OL and 7th OL. Plus Daniels. The quantity of blockers isn't an issue. Quality, on the other hand, is.

I do think it is a good possibility that we move those two around a lot. Yikes. Nailed it. Walters is the primary Canadian side scout, but the US scouts don't seem more competent.

I get what he is trying to say. Bill Walsh wrote a whole book called "The Score Takes Care of Itself" (which is phenomenal, btw) based on this concept, which is how he built the dynasty 9ers. Sun Tzu wrote that, "Strategy with out the Tactics is the slowest route to victory, and Tactics with out Strategy is the noise before defeat." This clearly sounds and looks like Tactics without Strategy. Each drive, he is throwing some set of Tactics at the D, without an overarching Strategy. We are basically throwing darts at a wall, hoping to hit the dartboard but aren't even looking to see if that wall has a dartboard. The way it should work is we use Tactics, setting up the run/play action, pump-and-go after screen setup, and route concept development, to accomplish a specific goal. Get the Wil in a 1on1 in the trail position on Demksi around the seam; use the run to develop play action with the screen game, keeping the box honest, then bust a play action or pump screen and go to get Nield good separation vs a half-down field. Using motion to disguise jet plays, reveal coverage, create pre-snap read option opportunities, etc. We have a few tactics, but they don't have a strategy that they are trying to accomplish. Tactics, combined with strategy, create win conditions. Like our empty the backfield on second down to expose and limit the rush. But we aren't actually using Brady as more than a decoy, or even using him as a decoy well. We basically drop the QB back and have him hit whoever he can under coverage and hope they can gain the needed yardage. After Browns' first start, we haven't even used timing routes on one-step drops to at least get the ball to guys before the cushion is eaten up. However, clued in Mos is to the deficiencies of this team, he is still completely blind to the fact that the biggest problems are culture/accountability/preparation/execution. I love the book and enjoy the movie. They really, really did Art Howe dirty in the movie, though. I think they should rewatch each of our losses and lowlights on a loop until we fix what is broken.

I'd add that if he's your No. 3, you are in a great spot, at No. 3. Overall, it's possible (and the reality currently) that it's not a good spot to be in. It certainly does hurt him that Demski and White are very similar in terms of weaknesses and what they provide, which isn't on him. I've not been too bullish on Pokey; he kind of overachieves and got really far based on 3 big games as a rookie. He's been far more consistent this year in terms of production, though that has come at the cost of efficiency. He was at 9.77 yards per target as a rookie, 10.6 when he came back last year, and is down to 8.5 yards per target this year. He's put up outings of 7.42 YPA and 4.26 YPA. But he is also close to matching his rookie totals for YAC this year already. The question is, can he do more with fewer attempts? Because he is getting almost 8 targets a game. Philpot and Snead are putting up 12 YPA on 10 and 8.5 attempts per game, respectively. Wheatfall is pulling down 10.37YPA with a 67% catch rate on 4.11 attempts per game. The 60.3% completion rate to Wilson is really killing him.

Here is what I want out of this team; Set a high tone for physicality on the first kick of the game, and at least match the other team's level of physicality for the whole game. They don't have to win the physical battles, but they have to make each battle physical, and make the other team pay a toll to win the ones they take. Run it out, from the back side of plays, busted contain/coverage, big plays, long plays, every play. No jogging it out once you lose the angle, no quiting on plays. Care as much, if not more, about the snaps you lose as the snaps you win. Lots of celebrating small victories, but the care for getting beat seems gone very quickly if it ever sets in at all. Don't take any thing laying down. If the other team punches us in the mouth, we gotta get up and swing back. I don't mean literally fighting; I mean answering spikes in intensity/physicality/momentum, etc. Competent, professional football fundamentals. Taking a bad angle, overpursuing, driving for a hit with no immediate backup, throwing a limp-arm tackle when the guy doesn't have an angle on you, catching most of the catchable footballs, etc. If we did that, and won 6 games and missed the playoffs this year, we would be a good bad team. With a future brighter than our present. That would be a team anyone could be proud of. Without doing those things, no matter what our record, our future is dimmer than the present. That is the corner all teams must round before starting to become an actual good team. Not an underachieving team that is old and soft, hoping each week that the other team will out-underperform them.

Aside from roster management, one of the biggest disappointments with talent is that we are really getting the least out of a whole lot of guys. No, but that accusation is very RF board-esque. We all know every stadium that sees high attendance has a good chunk of fair-weather fans. While the dynasty has for sure cemented many new hardcore fans, it has brought in 100x more casual bandwagon jumpers. I mean, how many of the Rum Hut guys are there for the Rum Hut and GD experience, not the game itself? We got 3 good/solid 3s, 1 guy who could become a 3, and 1 guy with a pulse in the WR core. Not too many sets of hands top to bottom, and most wouldn't have been able to ride the Dragon at Fun Mountain with out some one turning a blind eye.

Nailed it. At some point, you have to look to Wade miller as well. He keeps seeing the same situations play out over and over, that walters/mos either can't or won't miss hitting the same pitfalls, and the onus falls to him to act. Yep. No one is held accountable, so no one really cares anymore. You see that in the incredible lack of hustle, discipline, and basic unit execution(Catching, tackling, etc).

you’ve got it wrong. it’s not about winning, it’s about effort and quality of team on the field. The on field product is embarrassing. We could have a worse record but better engagement if the team was losing close, nail biting good games. if they were playing physical and smart football. from the coaching to the players, the quality is apathetic and fans are matching that.

I mean physical problems aside from whatever mental issues he's dealing with. Mentally, that guy is not ok. Those two often are intertwined. Deadly combo for sure.

Jaworksi should get the first shot. Its important to have the next guy up in, and with our struggles vs the run Peterson gives us a guy who we can plug in and will play at a much higher level vs the run and the pass then we are used to. Boy he is just going full reinbold over in ottawa. The secondary hasn't been good, and no one there should be safe. But they just canned the DC, no pro team is playing that bad on talent alone. Not by a mile.

Usage really is everything. You put those guys on or past the edge with a 1 on 1 with a DB and let them cook. Even if they don't break it, its less wear then returning is.

Idk who the bigger assbag is tbh. But both 100% right. I'll throw in Reinbold here too. It's kind of funny; we have the exact opposite problem here now. Deslauriers/walters in Canadian scouting, plus walters/mac. JY/Hall. Mos/Mmiller, Addison/LHall, Even Condell/Hogan. Instead of one guy doing too many jobs, we got too many guys with overlapping jobs.

He is a very talented football mind, but I don't think he's a leader or capable of developing guys. He seems like the kind of coach who works in a perfect vacuum. Yep, that is always a mistake. Im not even a fan of a HC being a primary CO.
