2024/2025 Blue Bombers Off-Season Thread
wbbfan replied to TBURGESS's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
I think the drop off from Wallace to imp should be small. We gain more imo with the imp on D. As it is we have 1 starter spot and hopefully 1 back up spot for woods, adams, person, pointer and Webb. 1 di spot for griffin, valval, ayers/jones, one for Sergio and one for a kr. If we go none di for kr, and 3 ni on the ol it helps our ratio a whole lot. The injuries to Kelly and makonzo hurt a lot on D. We are gonna have soo many bodies at lber again, we need all the dl and dbs who can actually on D on the ar. -

I think that’s very much the case. Down the road I can see Randolph as the LT and vanterpool as the rt. Though Wallace may polish into that role. Now inb4 vanterpool gets cut lol. Lofton might be viewed in a similar light though I don’t see remotely the same ceiling as either. -

Yeah. Second to injuries, (and rider wins) the thing I hate most in sports is wasted talent. Hope he manages to get him self sorted and back to where he needs to play. it’s been a lot of adjustments and trials of different combos. I don’t think Lofton has practiced much at all. Randolph has looked better than Lofton last year though imo. Hes settled into rt nicely. Vanterpool has taken a nice step forward in general. Wallace has been good. Saw him get beat off the line couple times but recover really well. Think that’s why he got a run at rt. He’s lost 15-20 from his pro day time and he hasn’t lost strength. Run block wise, he’s our best bet at guard imo. Pass pro, he’s worth growing with at this point. Eli is pretty much the usual. Much better at C than G, though playing beside the other Cs he was better than with kola. They really like vibert, and I could see him getting groomed on the pr for a year. Hes a nasty inside guy who can snap a bit and be groomed into a back up C pretty easily. Realistically could be a 6th ol in the league this year from what I’ve seen. Gets off the ball well, strong with a good base, nasty type we always like. Neuf looks significantly more mobile than he did all of last year. More explosive than he’s been in a while. If he stays healthy he should be as good as you’d hope. Among the other rookie imps, Atkinson is a throw back body style. He’s thick and strong and significantly heavier than his listed weight. He’s aggressive and got some good attribute's, but he looks like a straight up guard in need of polish. Which doesn’t happen up here. elsbury has the measurables and it shows on the field, but he’s raw. Reminds me of Randolph last year. I like Hemphills upside, he’s more polished and probably the best of the zone run blockers among the imports. I could see us easily keeping 1-2 imp ol on the pr and 1 ni, and probably another guy on the ir. Best ol imo: Bryant Neuf Eli vanterpool Randolph. realistically, we are gonna start kola if healthy and I don’t think we have the ratio at this point to go 3 imps with our hurting the d and teams. Bryant Neuf kola Wallace Randolph with Eli as the 6th is likely. I wouldn’t be surprised to see more Wallace at RT. I could see a world where we go 4ni ol with vibert on the ar and Wallace at RT easier than I can see us going 4 imp ol. If that happened, it’d be best to slide Neuf to his side to give him more help. Over all I like our ol crop, could still use more Canadian talent as always, we likely have to face more struggles with change though. Guys needs to gel, and take some lumps as starters at their positions. But that is coming for us no matter what. It’s a good time to move forward with young guys and build in near future replacements for Neuf and Bryant. -
I believe that was in the presser where mos was first asked. If he arrives I’m sure we will get a little bit more info.

I don't think it's anything about butting heads. He was excused for family reasons, though I am wondering if he is going to be up here with us this year or at all now too.

interesting. Might not be any thing. Either way, I think he needs to play his way onto the team starting friday. -

Yep, and given he is just returning to practice now, It might take a bit for him to get his cardio to 100% and the rust off. We will see. But I am confident he will get back to that point and be the guy he was previously. It might hamper his ability to take the next step forward this year though. -

That brings value in keeping the return team off balance, too. Teams can't just run to a spot 40 yards downfield based on where their returner is set up / reading. Medlock was fantastic at recognizing when a KR was cheating to one side too much, then smashing a low screamer away from him, ending up with a massive punt bounce n roll for 70+ yards. -
I do agree that imp wr is very talent deep. But it’s still really hit or miss among top talents. I think dbs are next most replaceable after RBs, then wrs. Imp guards would be really high but no one really uses them. I don’t like the crazy expensive wr core approach. I get keeping a guy like schoen, but after that to sustain success you really gotta find guys cheap and develop them. He was crazy green and played a lot as a rookie. 2nd year is big for Canadians and wrs. What I saw is he did a fantastic job of playing with in him self and not trying to do too much. Usually you see kids trying to cheat or look down field before the ball arrives. Clercius played like a seasoned pro and did every thing we could want. If he played a premium pass catcher spot he could be a volume guy. The fact we moved on from woli when he wasn’t even paid that much says a whole lot. Most loves woli. True, if they think they can turn guys around they will bring them in. There was a Time when Wj was considered problematic. If they didn’t believe in the guys ability to be a fit in the locker room and market they wouldn’t. They don’t just ignore guys with a past.

To be fair we haven’t had much competition at P. Evan’s is ridiculously good though. We drafted him I can’t imagine we won’t play him if he kills it in camp. Thing is he can kick for 45-50 with drastically better hang time than Sheahan. And with less shanks. I think Evan’s would have to really crap the bed to not make the team. -

Case wasn’t in the first game, maybe he had to return home? Other wise we could’ve stuck some one on the ir who we know is gonna make it and doesn’t need the reps. Nah Lawson was taking equal reps with Thomas and more down the stretch before his injury. They paid him top tier money, he’s likely gonna play more snaps than Jake. -
Thanks for sharing. That’s a good sign. I mean, it wouldn’t be like the mafia to bring in or keep around a toxic waste dump of a guy. Second chances are important, he doesn’t need to be tc mvp. But we badly need that no2/3 target. Weve got that all over possession guy who can do a bit of every thing in schoen, the catch and run guy in Demski, big reliable catchers in white and big Kev. Dmitch fits that last spot to a T of a deep threat who the D has to account for even when the ball doesn’t go his way.
-
That makes sense. He did start the season well, about half his production came in the first 4 games. 22 and 23 most of his production came in a similar chunk mid season.

Yep, when I broke down his total play off stats here I did the gcs too. It’s hideous. -
Some times people kick addictions and pick up other problems, other times the addiction can be the side effect of another problem too. We all know he’s as talented as it gets, and we know he’s prone to saying stupid stuff. He might be out of football if we cut him, so he better have his head on straight now. tbh Lawler has a lot in common with him. Some stupid mistakes, dui/passport etc. struggled to be consistent/on the field. But lawler, is a hell of a competitor. He says the right things to media and does the right things on the field. Mitchell needs to find that dog, and keep it close all year.
-
I took it as a mental competitive drive thing. Some guys are slow starters even in pro sports. It isn’t good, you’re right. Might not be the end of the world, but I think he needs to go out and take a starting job from some one Friday. It’s also one of those things you shouldn’t publicly admit.

3 stars plus hh preseason kick off (of fg kicks)

Yup, one of the best kr guys in cfl history and our best by a lot. -

How many of those came from grants 4 seasons here though? He had 8 tds on punt and kick offs in his time here, not sure on missed fgs. But I bet him in those 4 years makes up about 90% of our scores in the last 10. We have had a very good cover team historically in that time range. Its not a curse or any thing, its kind of been an after thought where we settled for guys who played good enough. Outside of grant being big play dangerous hasn’t seemed like a priority for us from the kr game. -

Yeah I think schmek will be out for Lawson, I also think he might start over old Jake when 100%. But that will be a big litmus test. -

Yup, when that happens I got hugged by like 4 strangers in the stands. Every one knew what that play meant. It’s in the top tier of bomber plays and moments. Man Lawson back is huge hope he’s. Should be lots of time to get ready for game 1. -
If he’s healthy, love to have him back. lmao no doubt. Insane that they are going for another year like that. I don’t think Lofton is gonna be ready, but we do still have a decent bit of time. Lber is what I worry about. I really don’t want use to give up on Ayers, especially for tjones.
-
Man I hope that’s not the case. Seems like it he played with 2nd unit on. Wallace also played a lot with his rt reps as did vibert.

Seems like the league told the ALs they would be held accountable to the rules and they tried to break it to the guy softly. Doesn’t matter how the horn works, if it’s mechanical or pneumatic etc it will be banned. If it’s out right too loud it’ll also be banned. They want the easy short cut to having a home field like the bombers and riders do with out nearly the attendance or stadium design. right? Or fly out 10-20 guys to sit around them with the same horn and beak it none stop when the ALs have the ball. See how fast they change tune. -

He has a disproportionate amount of shanks from deep in our end that give instant field goal range. Yep, we need a kr stop gap. Logan will be an excellent kr when healthy. We need a guy who runs up, catches and every ball possible, goes north south and gets consistently decent yards. I think vaval should be that guy. I’m also not at all against using our by week and this week to try out guys for a worst case scenario. I think we need wr talent more than kr right now. Both ni and imp. We should be getting ready to go through other teams cuts really well. I haven’t seen any thing from the rookie imo wrs that even looks like in a year they might be good. -
As it is I think we will be right up against it for starting Canadians with 3ol. I would still look hard at flipping wil to ni but we aren’t grooming to get that done this year.
