The team is named after the famous W. C. Handy song "Saint Louis Blues."

Maybe I'm too old or maybe it's just that sort of hockey trivia that got stuck in my head but I thought it was well known they were named after the song and that Louis Armstrong was arguably the most well known of artists associated with it.
