Odds and Sods - Game 2 - Bombers at Stamps

Blue have nice first drive....but fail on fake FG

....followed up by missed passes, drops, missed blocks..

...and naturally, two and outs....

Macho blocks punt to open 2nd quarter...

.....Posey takes it to the 5...... Nichols punches it in...

Bombers score first TD of a game......light at end of tunnel - 7-3

Bo Levi Mitchell 18 yd run...on a 3rd and 1... sets up field goal...

Next Stamp possession....very easy 70 yd TD drive......

Stamps get ball back..... another BLM TD pass....

17 Calgary points on 3 straight possessions...

Soft coverage, in back and missed tackles everywhere......

The Bomber O?....2 and out...wash, rinse, repeat...

Blue finally get it going near end of half..........

....but somehow run off 12 seconds on final play of half.....

....to deny Medlock a long FG attempt....

Incompetence dies hard.....as Stamps up 20-7

TOP was  20:39 to 9:21... and not for us..

The Stampeders horse left less crap on field, than Blue....

Hey, but there is always the 2nd half, right?

Stamps take ball...with opening drive for FG.....

...followed with 70 yd TD drive...

...while Bomber D put on a tackling clinic....

...as in how just not to do it....

ANOTHER  Stamp TD drive...36-7 at end of 3rd Q.

33 unanswered points from Calgary..

But there is still good ole garbage time

...which is now.... the new Bomber specialty.

Sure enough....82 yd drive..

...Adams with TD catch.

Willy follows up with another drive...

....and TD pass to Jace Davis...now 36-22

Willy actually ends up near 300 yds with 2 TD's...

Most of it... in another 10 minutes of big time football..

Once we figure out that other 50 minutes...

...we are golden...

..but right now...fans are simply blue

Control the ball?

Harris 8 yds rushing.... Messam 138 yds

Defense?....Stamps ....500 yds on O.

Clock management?  Lets not go there...

Bombers have now lost 13 of last 14 in Calgary....

Let the (usual) excuses fly....

...and the gin flow....

What really bothered me, beyond Willy's inconsistencies......was how many facets of this team, just didn't do a job, out there.   Run blocking was abysmal, blitz pickup is a sometimes thing.....along

  • your kidding your self into thinking changing qbs will fix any thing. Hes far from the worst starting qb in the cfl.

  • The Bomber O-line wasn't great but better than last year. And Willy made them look worse than they were.

What is Osh good at? I'll give you two things:

1. Intimidating media members

2. Dancing around questions of team efficiency with vague generalities

at least he's dropped the "gotta look at the film" thing - - - - that made him look terrible!

You may want to rephrase that "gotta look at the film" thing to " it was one of the things that made him look bad".

Are we thinking of the same Kevin Glenn?... prior to last year's season ending injury this how many games he played in his previous 11 seasons: 18, 15, 16, 18, 18, 18, 18, 18, 18, 18, 18... outside of last year's injury and the 2007 grey cup he's mostly been healthy his entire career...

Played in counts being a back up holding a cup of coffee. Banged up in 05, and in 06. Missed grey cup game in 07 due to injury. Back to riding the pine playing through injuries in 08 (was banged up and playing poorly through when dinwidiie "took" his job) later years back to riding the pine and banged up last year again. Thats the fun thing about stats, drew willy is 2nd in the league in passing yards and 3rd or 4th in tds. But most people in the city want his head.

So Benc in sask, bench first year here. injured, injured, injured when it matters most, back to bench started a season and stayed healthy in hammer, then back and forth to the bench and starting before being a bench guy. And hurt again.

calgary touchdown pass 7.55 third quarter was undefendable, perfect pass, to a receiver running full speed , who makes an excellent grab. No team could stop that one. game was over after that.

calgary  had some crazy good catches in that game.

Two for 14 points, that were plays of the year.

I'd argue that wasn't a perfect pass... anytime a receiver needs to catch the ball one handed from over his shoulder while at a full sprint there was problems with the pass.  I'll agree that if the ball is thrown with any less steam there is a good chance the defender is able to break up the play... but that tells you that the receiver was basically not open other than by making an insane play (I.E. you can't really be upset with the DB on that play)

Never mind the other team....why don't we just make some plays?.....a lot more of them, in fact.
