2015 NHL Free Agency

Separate thread here as Free Agency is pretty much a week away.

An interesting tidbit in recent Free Press article:

http://www.winnipegfreepress.com/sports/hockey/jets/Burmistrovs-future-big-storyline-for-Jets-at-draft-309360161.html

We’re all dealing with trying to sign RFAs or UFAs and not having a solid number in front of you makes things a little bit difficult, difficult from a signing standpoint and difficult from a player agreeing standpoint. Everyone wants to know what might be available out there for him. We’re entering another unique part of the CBA where you have an interview period which starts on Thursday (where teams can ‘court’ prospective free agents in advance ot the market opening on July 1st). That’s a different phenomenon that we’re all learning the ins and outs from that standpoint. I guess once all things come into play and now you know you’re number, you can really start making your final plans for how you can move forward."

So while I know that talks with Frolik have apparently begun to "heat" up, if we don't get a deal done by Thursday he will be able to start getting a feel for what kind of money and term other teams would be willing to give him.

Must be the busiest time of the year for GMs with the Draft this weekend and Free Agency soon after.

With GMs able to talk to agents on Thursday, and pretty much all agents and GMs being at the draft, I expect a huge flurry of singings July 1st when they can officially submit contracts.

Jets interested in Belesky?

Jets interested in Belesky?

I think he's right up our alley but someone will pay him too much. Jets might be done. With Stafford, Burni they have their top nine set I think. Unless they have a trade in mind

If they don't make any other big signings they are going to be one of the lower cap teams at around $55 - $58M.

Floor is $51M

If the Jets do trade Buff they could easily keep a couple of million to expand possible teams to a cap contender and sweeten the return.

@CJOBSports: Updated #NHLJets Burmistrov Story with contract terms http://t.co/KNvZ79VmFohttp://t.co/EmX5yO6Tx9

The Jets told 680 CJOB they would not be releasing the terms of Burmistrov’s two-year deal.

Contradictory.

Is it not the agents who release the contract info and not the team?

Once the contract is signed and registered it could be any team, agent, or even NHL staffers.

Every other signing has details released. Jets are being coy for some reason.

I've heard it is around 1.6M per year.

If they re-up both Ladd and buff then you can $15m or so to that next year. Might be saving space.

@DarrenDreger: Deal isn't quite done, but Brad Richards and the Red Wings are working on a 1 yr deal.

Reupping both is likely only a net increase of 7. But I agree they are keeping space open to sign existing players.

If true I love two years of Burni at that price a lot more than five years of Frolik at $4.3 or more if that's what he wanted to stay here. I don't think Frolik gets you three million more than Burni

Jets Facebook pm said that they do release the $ info. I be mistaken.

1.5 and 1.6 for Burmi. It's all over twitter

Thought for sure Dubnyk would sign. Bodes well for Minnesota then.

Burmistrov's WPG Deal

Alex Burmistrov's two-year deal with #NHLJets carries a $1.55M AAV: $1.5M then $1.6M.

Good value.

@CJOBSports: #NHLJets GM Kevin Cheveldayoff won't give details but says their offer to Frolik was fair & competitive

Moose sign four:

The Jets/Moose signed four players today to American Hockey League contracts, and three of them were Jets/Atlanta Thrashers draft picks.

On deals are defencemen Peter Stoykewych (2010), Aaron Harstad (2011) and Brennan Serville (2011). They also signed goalie Jussi Olkinuora, whom they had previously signed as a free agent in the spring of 2013.

Olkinuora didn’t receive an NHL qualifying offer from the Jets last earlier this week, making him a free agent.

He has played two seasons in the system, with both the ECHL’s Ontario Reign and the AHL’s St. John’s IceCaps.

Harstad, now 23, played for Colorado College in NCAA hockey for the last four seasons. He joined the IceCaps for the end of last regular season for a look.

Serville, 22, was a defensive defenceman for the University of Michigan, scoring just one goal in his four seasons there. He was the teammate of Jets defenceman Jacob Trouba for one of those years.

Stoykewych, also 22, played four years at Colorado College. The Winnipeg native had six goals and 34 points over his career there.

@garylawless: Cheveldayoff stopped himself on 1 answer about Frolik, said offer was competitive and then, "in many ways..." cut himself off. #bn #nhljets

Hmmmm in many ways better?

So Jussi and Connor Hellebuyck for the Moose this season then?

Yeah was listening to the press conference and thats what it sounded like he was about to say.  Might have been higher AAV with less term.

So Jussi and Connor Hellebuyck for the Moose this season then?

Interesting that Jussi no longer has an NHL deal. I think unless they sign another goalie that pretty much means Helle is planned to stick with the moose all season

Wait...Comrie is eligible to play for the moose, no?

@FriedgeHNIC: Not only is BOS closing in on Matt Beleskey, but also hearing Bruins are working on a deal with FLA for Jimmy Hayes.

I think at his age its either Jets or TriCity. He has gone down to the AHL after his WHL season has ended,

He turns 20 in a couple days so if they want to send him down to AHL they can do it.
