The TV Thread

Second season of Orange is the New Black launched today.

Anyone else into this?

I have to admit to being a bit of a TV/movie-phile.  I generally buy Blu-Rays when there's a movie I want to see rather than just watching it on PPV or In-demand (I like to collect).

Premium TV has really been leading a creative resurgence in recent years, probably dating back to The Sopranos.  Its nice that Netflix has become a legitimate competitor for HBO (which puts out some really great shows like Sopranos, Deadwood, Boardwalk Empire, True Blood etc).

House of Cards was tremendous.

While cable channels like AMC are getting in on the act, I annoys me a bit.  The Walking Dead would be so much better on Netflix or HBO where they could truly appeal to adults (HBO passed on The Walking Dead when Thomas Jane was attached).

As for Orange, it took me a few episodes to get into last season but Im looking forward to banging out a few episodes tonight.

As an aside, for you Trekies, it was recently the 20th anniversary of the finale of TNG, one of the best Series' Finales in TV history.

The Righteous Gemstones season 4 start March 9th.

Just finished binge watching Boardwalk Empire. Little darker series than The Sopranos. They kill most of the main characters off. I thought the plot twist at the end with Tommy Darmody killing Nucky Thompson was brilliant. The only character I was sad to see him go with his demise was John Harrow, the crook who wore a mask to hide his half blown off face suffered during WW1. His character really grew on me as the series went on.

Now watching Billions Season 1. Taking a bit longer to get into it like BE. But I intend to watch it all.

If you can understand 25% of the references the characters throw out you’ll like it.

A lot of the actors in Billions were part of the Suits TV & BE series.

I'm old so I should. Everything from old movies to music genres to sports "You're going to be our Brian Doyle". Got that right away.

And here I was thinking Brian Doyle-Murray 🤦‍♂️

well it took me a little more than a year but I have finished The Crown.....Ritz broke my heart more than Sleep Dearie Sleep did, watching Margaret deteriorate like that (it was like losing a fun auntie). Kind of makes me glad they stopped before the 7/7 attacks that happened a few months after Charles's wedding to Camilla. Shame they didn't cover Edward's wedding (mostly just so we could see the Queen mum dance at that age).

oh btw all that sympathy I had for Mohammed Al-Fayed in season 5...yeah not so much in season 6 (you didn't have to push Dodi into Diana you know)

Putting SWAT in Friday's former Blue Bloods time slot was the kiss of death for that show. A lot of anger out there for Blue Bloods cancellation & fans took it out on the sacrificial lamb that replaced it.

No, baseball reference.

Dammit Rex you're not supposed to emotionally scar me like that, that is the  911's universes job (nothing happened to the dog onscreen they had to write around Reardon's illness which was one of the contributing factors to the season being cut short and well I would have put Hudson in a coma instead of what we did get)

With the anger over Blue Bloods being cancelled & CBS ignoring fans wanting it renewed, no show would have survived in that Friday night time slot. SWAT was supposed to keep former BB viewers happy as it was a police procedural but there's no way fans were ever going to watch it. CBS sacrificed that show. The only CBS show that would ever work in that time slot would be if the network used that new BB sinoff tv series with Danny Reagan (Donnie Wahlberg) as a replacement in the fall.

I think if a show lasts 15 years we cant be angry over it ending IMHO.

In the later seasons, he was the best/funniest character in the show... He's a good one to spin off, if they have to go that route.

And that SNL lineup actually looks pretty good. Jack Black and Jon Hamm are proven winners, and I'm VERY excited to see what Elton and Carlisle do...

When you average 6 million viewers an episode, sometimes more, sometimes less, people get angry a series gets taken away. The fans took it out on SWAT. When I heard BB was cancelled last year & never coming back, I immediately stopped watching. I moved on. Never saw the final half season or series finale. Didn't care. I sure wasn't going to watch SWAT. Judging by the reaction on social media, I wasn't the only one. I'll watch the new Danny Reagan spinoff out of curiosity.

Just started watching The Pitt. If it's portrayal of emergency rooms in the US is even remotely accurate all of the private health care "grass is greener" folks should be forced to watch it in its entirety.

I found the 4 part series Adolescence to be a great watch.

Each episode was filmed in one take which made for it to seem like you are there.

What is interesting is they shot each episode twice a day for 5 days.

Hopefully they renew the series with new story lines.

It was fantastic. Stephen Graham is great in everything.

Love this, hate waiting a week for the next hour. Noah Wylie is outstanding.

1 episode to go, I am not sure there is a more intense hour of TV that one can watch.
