Quinn Smith

A DL from Concordia got some attention at the CFL combine, he did very well against all the top o-line prospects winning every single rep in the one on one drills. He also played guard and held his own against Even Gill and others. Wonder if he'd be too far off the board to take a chance at? I know we need a center so I doubt we go that way. These kind of stories make the draft very interesting though ...

I'm hearing Quinn Smith is now a likely first rounder. Gill's stock really took a hit at the combine...hearing he may drop to the second or third round.

Maybe we can take him there ;)

I'd love to get Gills in the third round.

From reports, Smith has nothing going for him except aggression, power, speed and smarts. Would make a great center with a little work.

What a loser he is ;) Ya that would be cool ... an aggressive, powerful, fast, smart center ...

He'll be an awesome fourth round pick.

Could be a possibility for the Bombers as an OL IMO.  Always have to guard against who the competition was though with the combine, it was the other guys eligible for the 2014 draft, not CFL players.  Is Smith a really polished CIS player, will he make the jump, how long will it take and which side of the ball are you going to develop him on?  There are always a few guys who seemingly come out of nowhere to dominate 1 on 1's and not all of them end up being very good CFL players, if you're lucky you can end up trading the guy for the rights to a free agent quarterback.

How sweet would Evan Gill dropping to the third be?

I'm sorry but there is no way Gill drops to the third round.  This is still a very weak draft, regardless of what people might try to say.

Smith sounds like the quintessential CFL-centre-OL-developmental-type player to me.

Pretty unrealistic to think we would use our #2 overall pick on a guy who is a project on O-line, let alone a centre... Would be nice to have that 2nd rounder right now, Smith or Gill could be available at #11

We have seen enough 'off the board' picks for one lifetime.

I know, that's what I was thinking :(

True, but if Neufeld starts at tackle for us, I'm okay with missing out on those guys.  I doubt either one makes it to pick 11 anyways.
