FrostyWinnipeg Posted June 27 Author Report Posted June 27 https://www.sportsnet.ca/nhl/article/canadiens-acquire-noah-dobson-from-islanders/ New Montreal Canadiens defenceman Noah Dobson is signing an eight-year deal worth $9.5 million per season, TSN Hockey Insider Chris Johnston confirms. The deal makes Dobson the joint-14th highest-paid blueliner in the NHL.
HardCoreBlue Posted June 27 Report Posted June 27 Tavares extends for four years, 4+ a year. Okay then.
Goalie Posted June 27 Report Posted June 27 (edited) Columbus backed out of the Dobson deal. Lots of ppl had Columbus as a possible Ehlers destination but this tells me maybe not. Carolina seems likely now then. Or maybe the Jets. I feel Chevy gave him a date tho and it’s passed now and jets looking at other options. Unless San Jose or Anaheim. Edited June 27 by Goalie

I wonder if he’s a guy that might be interested more in a contender with similar weather tho. Cuz yeah. No way he gets 16 million per tho. Only explanation is he doesn’t think Minnesota can win. With the political environment in the USA I wonder if more Russians or maybe non North American players might prefer to play in Canada. And he was just traded to Florida lol. (You know it’s coming) perhaps fake news tho as I do not see this mentioned really anywhere online. Not on tsn or sportsnet sites. Edited yesterday at 02:03 AM by Goalie
TrueBlue4ever Posted 20 hours ago Report Posted 20 hours ago Could be fake. And if he wants out, I don’t see him looking at a Winnipeg (contender with similar weather) as an option. I will say that with the cap rising to $113.5 million within the next 3 years or so, $16 million is absolutely on the table for Kaprizov. He is quite arguably more important to Minnesota than any other single player is to their respective team in the entire NHL. Right now the maximum cap hit for a player is $17.6 million (20% of the team cap) and is likely to go up to $19.1 million by the end of this year, and $22.6 million by 2027-28. Kaprizov may want out, he may want a shorter term so he can re-negotiate once the cap ceiling going up, or he may be waiting for McDavid to set the market when he signs. Seems greedy on the face of it, but he holds the cards here and has a justifiable reason (from a player’s standpoint, not from a fan’s standpoint) to seek max dollars and rationalize turning down the $16 million per right now. Will be interesting to follow and see how this plays out. Now if he goes to Florida for $12-13 million a year for 7-8 years on a sign and trade, THEN we can all be rightly pissed off as fans.

Curious why this should piss fans off? The whole point of free agency was to give more players autonomy in where they live and play. I say this as a huge Jets fan knowing this is a big disadvantage for the team, but if he wants to sign somewhere for less money, its his choice. If I were to make an argument on why he might sign in Florida for significantly less Warm climate Competitive team Can sign for less but still make the same on net salary because of lower taxes, which also lets the team remain more competitive Should the tax advantage Florida has piss me off as a fan? Maybe. But life ain't fair in any capacity. Not worth getting pissed off about in my mind.
Goalie Posted 17 hours ago Report Posted 17 hours ago They say Long Island is more likely as best buds with Soroykin.

That's not what pisses me off, do whatever you want, I get it taking care of himself, his family blah blah blah, fill your boots. You're a professional athlete providing an entertainment service to an audience and should be appropriately compensated. But just the curious human behavioural side of me pops up when a historic amount of cash is put in front of one of you and you have the luxury of waving it off with teams and people pandering to your every need, the guilty part of me would love to see what he would do if the offer was pulled with no other team offering anything. KHL? Take the offer? Retire from hockey? It would be fascinating to watch and yes I know it would never happen, collusion is sort of a bad thing I'm told. 🙂
