ISIS claimed responsibility for the attack but offered no evidence to support its claim.

I'm sure isis would take responsibility for a hurricane hitting florida or a tornado hitting kansas. Anything to make them look big bad and scary. I don't recall a nail bomb ever being a typical MO of ISIS suiciders. IMO it was a homegrown sympathizer at best

Yes, ISIS often takes credit for things they arent directly involved in.  A reasonable theory is its someone sympathetic to their cause though.  So really, same difference.  There was chatter that someone posted on twitter the night before that he was going to do it and then the twitter account was suspended.

It'll come out in time but sympathizer is a likely outcome, even if there is no actual connection between him and douchecanoe ISIS.

You have to be quite the piece of garbage to do something so heinous to children. Absolutely disgusting.

So the end result of this likely gonna be they gonna have security when you leave a building to make sure no one stands around outside or try to come in.

I've seen a few reports by the British media that security going into the arena was pretty lax. A number of people said security was just scanning tickets and letting people in without checking bags, etc. at this concert and previous ones.

Saw a Republican Representative on CNN, and he discussed the idea of increased security and said one issue is, if you create these situations where a large number of people are being searched, you still create areas of large groups waiting plus you inconvenience people.  So in the end it doesnt necessarily solve the issue.

Are we just realizing now that there is the potential for terrorist incidents at large public gatherings?  I don't see what has changed.  Why should security be stepped up now?

Thats the question.  What does one do to prevent this.  How do you stop a suicide bomber from walking into a crowd of people and blowing himself up?  Catching that guy on the way to the bomb site isnt going to resolve it.  Its the intelligence aspect of preventing it from getting that far.  I think visible security is a deterrent to some attacks (reasonable security at venues, police on streets etc) but a guy with a bomb strapped to him....by that point its a bit late.

In this case he didnt even go inside the concert.  Its easy to walk into a crowded mall or anywhere else. 

Gotta catch them at the till.

Aren't large numbers of people already being searched when they go to sporting events. There were delays when increased security was initiated but people adapted and they will again if security is increased again. Inconvenienced is better than dead.

Yes.  I believe his point was if they set up advanced check points, all you've done is further inconvenienced people, created more large groups for attacking and moved the threat further back.  If the entrance to a venue is dangerous, moving the checkpoint 100 feet back doesnt end the threat, it just moves it.  That was his point.

You do searches now more as a visual deterrent.  Its like having home security alarms on your house - if 10 homes have them and one doesnt, which one is most likely to be broken into?

Having more checkpoints and encouraging people not to bring a bunch of stuff with them would seem to be a way to keep the crowd moving.
