2024/2025 Blue Bombers Off-Season Thread

Big year for Kelly, he needs to step it up. Can he become a starting Safety or is he destined to be a career ST and backup? Ratio flexibility in the secondary is always a bonus. -

I figure a roomful of pro football staff who's livelihoods depend on the decisions they make know more about Jake's value to the team than the entire Internet combined. The Bomber organization has earned the respect and the record to field the team they choose to, keeping in mind, it's hard to be perfect. -

I think it's been proven maintaining a solid Natl. talent base is one of the keys to winning long-term in the CFL. Good Canadian players are harder to find than good Imports, so teams tend to stockpile and hold onto them as long as they can. Keeping the bare min. around could risk having to start a seriously inferior football player if a couple of the better Natls. go down with injury. -

Not anymore, Ed Hervey goes on for over 6 minutes explaining why he will not pay Eugene Lewis $300,000 plus. Other than Gittens Jr. and Tevin Jones, the Elks don't have a great stockpile of experienced receivers, fair to assume they will be going after a few in FA. -

You think they're winning in 2019 and 2021 with Kevin Glenn? Highly unlikely but I guess anything is possible. -

Imagine, Walters brings Glenn back and Collaros never signs and the streak is still alive! Ok, I knew he was close to nothing. -

It seems everything after his stint in Calgary was down hill for Glenn, remember his second stop with the Bombers when he didn't take a single snap? -

At this point in his career MBT is far more effective than Glenn was later in his career. Glenn bounced around alot but was not very good at winning games, he always came up short. -

Easy to go through the All-CFL team and say, "I want him, him and him", harder to make room in the budget to do so. -

Just in time to ****** the OC job with the Bombers at a 747% discount! FFS s n a t c h is a dirty word??? I forget....but maybe it is! -

Basic math, paying for the second highest paid QB in the league and keeping a room full of vets. that have won twice in 3 years content. Kyle Walters knows their pain. -

Nothing wrong with a lunchbox MLB, much better to stay at home and take care of business than fail attempting to cover receivers 40 yards downfield, let the DB's handle that ****. Biggie was a weird variant who tried to do everything to make up for his lack of real size and Richie gave him the freedom to do whatever he thought he could do. It's pretty unrealistic to expect the next guy up to follow his footprints, keep it simple and do your job, hopefully everyone else does the same. -

Obviously they both still want to play football, Gauthier has been a Bomber since 2016 and Wilson since 2017, they've paid their dues with the team and deserve to be treated with respect, as does Jake and Biggie. Both have diminishing roles on the team but can still contribute effectively as gap fillers when needed. Ayers is already under contract and looks to be the heir apparent to Wilson, limiting Wilson's reps. rotating with Ayers may be the strategy needed to preserve his health, and if the inevitable injuries happen again, Ayers just takes over WIL with help from Cole. -

Jones set it, unfortunately Walters is the only GM that followed his lead and tried to keep up. 225k should be established as the max for receivers, $150k for RB's. Woli is still under contract. -

Not sure where people are seeing Mitchell as a dynamic returner, I don't recall him being all that great and his stats. are not significantly different than Whitehead's. Plus he doesn't appear to be a player they use to run the ball on sweeps. Nope, O'Shea still hemming and hawing his days away, can't make up his mind. Mike O’Shea mum on timeline for Winnipeg Blue Bombers’ offensive coordinator hire “I like where we’re at (in the process),” O’Shea told reporters via videoconference on Monday. “(I’m) working on it, had some good conversations with guys, and just making sure I work through that process to discover what I need to discover and do it right.” “I don’t know that you rush this process. I think you work on it, you put your time in, and you come up with good answers and the right answers.” https://3downnation.com/2025/01/13/mike-oshea-mum-on-timeline-for-winnipeg-blue-bombers-offensive-coordinator-hire/ He'll be back. -

In 2023 Mitchell was the #17 highest paid receiver at $150k, he did not make the list in 2024 but fair to assume he earned the same pay. https://3downnation.com/2023/04/19/the-cfls-20-highest-paid-receivers-for-the-2023-season/ -

I suspect he replaces Schoen or Lawler, high quality receiver at a cheaper price. Wilson is still on his ELC, they'll want to retain him for the length of that first contract. -

I'd rather they pay Holm decently and convince him to stay long-term along with Nichols to maintain core consistency in the secondary, rather than spend on a high-flyer like Ford who will eventually leave to play elsewhere. -
Strev. become inoperable in early Sept., they had 3 months to figure something out.

The 6'-7" decoy parked at the far end of the bench may have many unanswered questions about the reason for his existence. Unfortunately Brit Dort had no answers.

It'd be nice to have the personnel and ability to play both systems well and be able to mix it up better, sometimes the 3-4 works and sometimes it doesn't. Don't mind it when it works but having to stick with it through a game when it's not working is painful to watch. -

Kramdi is getting better every year, I think they'd want to keep him busy closer to the action so he can make plays, not back at Safety where he may only get 3 or 4 interactions per game. I think his weakness would be in deep coverage against speed. -

Dumb Buck, Stanback is much more effective than Butler. Watch the Riders dump Ouellette and grab Stanback.
