Well it had to be a slot back so that leaves us with JFG or Bryant as i doubt they would have taken out Denmark or Kelly.

[Merged] 2014 Predictions / Standing Forecast
Fatty Liver replied to AtlanticRiderFan's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
Even with low offencive production the BB been able to squeek out victories with very little comfort zone except against EE. Low offensive production? We lead the league in most points scored per game, even with the game against Edmonton. Could the offence get more efficient? Sure. But to say that the production is low is flat out wrong. Yup. We are the highest scoring but we are also giving up a lot. So we either need to shut the other team down on defence or turn those FGs into TDs! Right. The Hamilton game should be a cause for concern because the Ti-Cats should have been down and out of it by half-time and our backup QB's should have been in getting valuable game experience by the 4th Q. Instead it took a minor-miracle to win the game. Hopefully the red-zone offence improves because the BB can't expect to have many of these miracle finishes left in their bag. -
[Merged] 2014 Predictions / Standing Forecast

I think the Bombers are eventually going to step into a bears den and get blown out sooner or later but so far the D has kept the score down in every game. Even with low offencive production the BB have been able to squeek out victories with very little comfort zone except against EE. Statistically other then the first Argo. game the offence has had trouble scoring TD's and this is going to be problematic. If another team manages to put 30 pts. on the board the BB may not be able to keep pace. -
The most logical explanation is they took an american receiver off since you know, to get another offensive weapon on you need to take one out. Thanks, but looking for a more specific answer as in which receiver they removed? My guess is Bryant.

Argos at Als / Leos at Stampeders
Fatty Liver replied to USABomberfan's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
BC didn't really start using Harris until the second half of the game but once they started feeding him they didn't stop. He would have had 150 yards in the one half if that TD hadn't been called back. Don't know if he can keep up that pace but it must have clicked with Glenn and Khari that extensive use of their tandem running backs is going to pave the road toward victory. I'll be surprised if that isn't the focus of their future game plans. Look forward to the next BB/BC match up. -
A bit off topic but how did the Bombers jig the ratio to get both Grigsby and Cotton on the field at the same time? I'd give my left nut to have a combo. like Harris and Logan. Even playing behind an O-Line with 2 raw rookies they were blowing through the Stamps D-Line gaining first downs with almost every carry.

Good. Bring him here. At 215 pounds he might be the remedy for a few BB inadequacies. -

Maybe Nik Lewis is back in next game. Interesting side story with the Stamps big back Martell Mallett out of football for 5 years. Looked good tonight and Matty loves him. http://www.calgarysun.com/2014/07/31/extended-time-between-snaps-for-stampeders-running-back-martell-mallett -

Harris is a wrecking ball, in talent I think he is better than Cornish. -
Calgary was 8-10 in 2001 and um, well they made it to the Grey Cup game. I don't remember who their opponent was. No they cancelled the Grey Cup that year, was a shame too because I thought the Bombers had a great chance to win it all. As I recall it had something to do with protesting the Soviet invasion of Irtusk.

I think this group is the best I have seen in a while that work as one unit. Five guys that get push up the field and all have big time motors. Hardest working bunch of Dline men I have seen. So far I think this is the strongest group on the team. That's pretty much how Doug Brown described them on the CJOB pre-game show. Lunch bucket crew without any big stars, just a hard working bunch with good motors.

Re-watched this play numerous times on CFL.ca and saw a few things. -Willy was out of time. He had a rusher coming from his right that was within a foot of him when he released the ball. -Pontbriand or whoever was on the right end of the line was tag teaming to his inside so he missed that rusher. -Grigsby was being covered by a D-Lineman that was late to arrive, it's clear Willy had to get it up and over this player who was running with his hands in the air so it was a very good throw. -The greatest threat to the reception was the man covering Denmark, if he would have been watching the QB more closely he would have seen the ball coming and perhaps fought to it. If Denmark would have taken his man to the corner there would have been a lot more space around Grigsby and less risk of a knock down. -Best of all, it worked!
-
Wasn't he a free agent? I believe he is the only player that O'Shea probably recruited himself.
-
If you're going to throw a ball up and leave it to chance make sure Kelly is involved. If that play was called at midfield nobody would be praising it as it would be picked off 50% of the time.
-
Even with the original play call I don't recall the Bombers successfully executing the throw into the corner this year although I know they've tried it numerous times. Seems to me a long throw in confined space is usually a bad idea, especiallly when it's a rainbow. Grigsby was a good choice as the receiver as the Ti-Cats were probably all over Kelly and Denmark but he's the wrong choice if you expect him to fight for a ball. In his own words he was scared to jump for it but luckily the pass landed right in his hands.
-
I see no evidence of O'Shea's inventiveness on special teams, seems he's leaving it entirely to his coordinator Pat Tracey. Hopefully in the future when he's more comfortable with the H.C. gig he can spice it up a bit.
-
I don't know who was responsible for calling the last play of the game but that was an insane choice imo. They only needed 3 yards to score, a quick slant in and a bullet to Denmark has better odds than throwing a rainbow across the field to a RB. I was virtually stunned when that play succeeded.

My God, I'm not blaming Walters or Tim Burke for 2013 as neither is solely responsible for the losses of the team. What is it exactly that that you think Burke could have done to change the course of the 2013 season? Pretend he had a QB that could win? The failure of the 2013 season lies with the Bombers entire organization from players on up to the B.O.D. and it includes both Burke and Walters. You are looking for a scapegoat, you choose Burke, congratulations, enjoy!

Ignorant. You don't think a head coach who throws his players under the bus at every turn, who basically said that the talent level on the team isn't good enough to win, isn't a cancer in the room? You don't think that stuff doesn't bring the team down. Have you ever had a boss that everyone hated that when he walked into the room everyone shut up and was immediately on edge? I was never in the locker room, so I can't say this is how it was, but based on what I saw of his interviews, how he composed himself, how he spoke, and what he said, I would have a very hard time respecting what he did and said as a player. And that is the worst kind of cancer to bring to any team, because it permeates from the top down. Bashing people grows old very quickly, especially after they're gone. Tim Burke had his faults no doubt, being truthful and candid were probably a few of them but in most walks of life these traits are admired. How about Walters role in the 2013 season? In your mind does he walk free without absorbing any of the responsibility for the team's losing record? For the majority of the season he was the GM above even Tim Burke if I recall. What actions did he take to provide Burke with better players so that they could win? Is he absolved of all blame? The part of your statement that I bolded actually made me chuckle. If you ever find yourself in the back of a room grumbling about your boss or organization guess what? In that situation you are the "cancer" of which you speak.

Nice to see those "full" stadiums ...

Why the hell does Wetenhall need a board of directors when he owns the team? He can run it badly all on his own. -
Don Matthews joins Als coaching staff
Fatty Liver replied to gbill2004's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
Doubt Matthews is going to get back into coaching at 75 but a little pocket change never hurts. I don't think any of the Als. coaches are in line to be fired as the screw ups came from above. Even in the case of Dinwiddie he was thrown into the fire when they canned Worman so I can't see them holding him responsible for their on field problems. He's a young guy so he'll most likely accept a demotion back to assistant when they come up with a better option for O.C. but can't see that being either Matthews or this Turk guy. I guess it's safe to assume the Als did not have a dedicated QB coach prior to this hiring? -
Moore's absence shouldn't make much difference in this game with Kelly coming back but but I would really like to see Kohlert moved into Moore's position and Bryant switched over to WR.

Golf, skiing, it's the same parasites exploiting the sport to make money off of developing the land and unfortunately the sport becomes secondary to the business. A round of golf is worth $25 not $85 IMO.
