  1. Just re-watched the Marve segment on TSN Video on Demand.  What struck me was the first completion to Kemp wasn't thrown on a frozen rope as I expected but had a beautiful "Ricky Ray" arc to it that hit Kemp even though there were two Argos covering him.  Without perfect placement and touch that completion was not there.

  2. I would like to know the context of this as it seems like overkill to be fired over consumption of a single beer unless he had a serious drinking problem.  Did the club make beer available in the clubhouse or did he bring it in himself???....If they came off practice and it was hot or muggy and the guy doesn't drink pop but was reeeal thirsty...

  3. If Goossen doesn't start at Centre, you pretty much have to pencil him in at RG to get him reps.  At least, that's what makes sense to me... but I would have had Pencer at RG for the second half of last season too.

Moving Neufeld to RG pretty much makes the Sask trade a bit of a waste.  Trading three second round picks over two drafts to fill the RG position... ridiculous.

The dogs from Regina will be howling with laughter if that's the case.

    Lewis seems like a beast.

We're going to have to wait till the end of training camp to see any non-imports pop loose.  Excuse for not pursuing Laurent is ludicrous,  I could care less if he can't sprint the length of the field.  The guy has talent work with it, not a problem.

So, you guys wanted us to pursue someone who

…..didn't re-sign with his original club after no NFL offers, and

…..it was reported he wanted to go 'home' to the east, most thought Montreal, turns out he wanted Austin and the Ti-Cats, and

…..to throw huge sums of money at him to try and convince him to come here, meanwhile knowing full well that he wouldn't fit in the system we are running.

    Have I got that right?

Don't care what the excuses for not trying to acquire him are, they're still excuses.  Tantamount to Tim Burke choosing to kneel with time remaining on the clock to alleviate the fear of losing!

Walters has done a good job of assembling new talent this year but there is no doubt in my mind he has been "schooled" by veteran GM's on numerous occasions.  Hope he learns his lessons well and up's his game.

That's funny! Didn't have time to put on my asbestos helmet!

Perhaps my judgement of Walters was a little harsh but I don't yet consider him in the same league as Wally, Huf, Austin or Popp.

Here are a few examples of his fails....probably not all his fault but often coming in second is as good as coming in last.

    Lost on Collaros

    Lost on Burris

    Lost on Butler

Hufnagel "schooled" every other GM in the draft.

Maybe didn't try to acquire Glenn but I consider that a loss!

    Same goes for Laurent.

Nick Moore is good but import receivers are a dime a dozen why spend the big bucks in that department?

As proven good Canuck players are the backbone of success in the CFL and the Bombers are in short supply.

Telling me Laurent isn't good enough to play for the Bombers???  That guy ties opposition players in knots on every down and creates opportunities for other players to succeed...I think Etch could find a way to work with that talent.  Best hope now is picking up other teams non-import cast offs after TC's close.

  6. My thoughts exactly - we pencil in Lucas/Thomas as our starting NIs and don't even make an offer to possibly the best NI DT in the CFL? Bombers have had a starting Canadian DT in mind for a few years now, yet never pursue anyone in free agency... its bizarre.

Laurent is a true 3-tech guy, they don't come along everyday and we sat on our hands because Etch 'doesn't protect against the run'...

My concern is that we're bringing in Etcheverry-type players and Etch won't be here next season...

Don't know if he'll be gone before next year but I predict Laurent is in Hamilton longer than Etch is in Winnipeg.

  7. Lewis seems like a beast.

We're going to have to wait till the end of training camp to see any non-imports pop loose.  Excuse for not pursuing Laurent is ludicrous,  I could care less if he can't sprint the length of the field.  The guy has talent work with it, not a problem.

  8. I would prefer to see the Bombers manipulate the defensive backfield to fix the ratio problem.  Screwing with the O-Line ratio has the potential to handicap a new offense with fledgling QB's which will be vulnerable.  After the performance last year It would be a minor miracle if the same group of non-imports plus Goosen could meld to protect the QB sufficiently.  Plus the non-import candidates for DB are all moderately talented CFL veterans so they should be able to fit into Etch scheme somewhere.

  9. Oh the bombers were and are very much aware... very much so

direct line taken from wylies bio on the offical site

Veteran offensive line guru Bob Wylie joins the Bombers for his first season and second stint with the club for the 2014 season, overseeing the development of the offensive line.

Wylie oversees the development and while he is away, his protege charboneau runs things.

    Win Win situation really.

Except....Who the hell is Charbonneau?  Is that like hiring Jack Nicklaus's caddy for golf lessons?

  10. You really think Collaros is making $200,000 less than Burris did last year?

Oh, I get it from the player for a respected coach angle, the up and coming team angle, the closer to home angle.

I'm just sick on teams in S. Ontario getting bail out $$ and crying poor and then doing this.

If those bastards want to do that, then cut teams in the West like Winnipeg a check first for all the $$$ we've sent your way over the years.

Don't neglect the angle of offering him six whores in a Cadillac as a signing bonus!

  11. I'd be more concerned if O'Shea wasn't aware of this from the start.  I wouldn't want Wylie to start bailing.  That they both agreed to this is fine with me.  They can plan for it.  Now it makes sense why we have him as a "not-OL-coach" and an OL coach.

Again, why do the Bombers withhold this information so that the fans have to figure it out on their own months later.  It speaks of a "we know best" attitude prevalent in football circles and epitomized by Mike Kelly.

  12. It is strange to see a pro coach put a recruiting company for American HS players ahead of his full time employers. I mean, pretty easy for him to tell FU that  due to his new position in Winnipeg he is no longer available & let them find a replacement as that kind of thing happens all the time with coaches. But it is what it is, I guess.

It wouldn't surprise me much if he was making a lot more money from the coaching clinics than he's receiving from the Bombers.

  13. Well, one reason to sign in hamilton over montreal is hamilton is a legit contender, montreal? not so much.

I don't see the issue with hamilton signing the guy, every team has the same salary cap so no big deal really.

Hamilton decided to go with a younger cheaper qb, their backups arent being paid much either... They traded shomari williams and his large contract...

I mean really... Henry + Shomari = enough money to sign probably both butler and laurent and even collaros.

All true enough but the Bombers should have had even more cap space to outbid the Ticats if Laurent was a priority.  Could be that there were plenty of bids and Laurent just won the Henry Burris lottery.  The CFL would be a much more interesting venture to follow if all it's dealings were not clothed in secrecy.

  14. I figured as much when it took Wylie and the Bombers so long to reach a contract agreement.  Wylie set the terms and the Bombers agreed to compromise their position in order to associate with his golden touch and reputation.

As for his health, at his age and weight he is a ticking time bomb.  Do the Bomber's really need another Richard Harris incident mid season to inspire them?

  15. Hajrullahu and Maher both hitting some beauty 60-65 yard punts. Hajrullahu hitting 35 yard FGs with ease. Missed several wide from 42 yards out. Maher looking much more comfortable with FGs beyond 40.

Walters and McManus on the field today observing. McManus now involved in helping a bit coach the receivers.

Lots of construction going on the West side of the stadium. Looks like they're building some small balconies right under the ribbon below the upper bowl.

Quinn Everett lining up at RG during early drills.

Bob Wylie nowhere to be seen. Appears someone else is working with the OL today.

Willy I thought looked better today. Nice strong accurate arm. Takes longer than Hall to get rid if the ball though. Hall sees what he likes and makes his throw. Willy likes progressing through his reads and takes an extra second to get rid if the ball, compared to Hall. Willy threw a nice short pass on the run.

Jason Vega showed up and is chatting with fans in the stands.

Willy must still be playing on Sask. time.  Max is used to Wpg. time.....hut..chuck and duck!

  16. OShea's post practice interview - 2nd day.

What caught O'Shea's eye among the rookies today? -      The defensive live..they were down a guy and they persevered and gutted it out.

Showed character? -      Yep, they get it, it's a job interview.

What do like about Kenny Tate? -      What's not to like about him? …When you talk to him you understand he really loves to play football.

Any running back stand out? -    Credit to the scouting staff , we have very good competition, these guys can play…fun to watch.

Kicking position, any ideas yet, ratio….? -    It will come right down to the end..it will be a roster decision.

Anybody stand out so far? -    A few guys , def. line QBs and the RBs. they get it. They have their one opportunity and they run with it.

Very diplomatic answer.  O'Shea seems to be learning fast how to talk without saying anything.
