  1. Except they change something every offseason so we get half a season of adjustments every year. Why can't they just leave well enough alone rather than fixing problems that don't exist? Except they change something every offseason so we get half a season of adjustments every year. Why can't they just leave well enough alone rather than fixing problems that don't exist? I wonder if the CFL has a long-term plan in mind with all of these rule changes to elevate the excitement of the game for a younger crowd. If I can equate it to hockey during the Oilers reign it wasn't unusual for scoring to average over 10 goals per game. Most fans loved it even if purists didn't. Maybe the CFL brain-trust (oxymoron?) is attempting to create the same free-scoring environment were shootouts end up with scores in the vicinity of 52-48.....Doubt it.
  2. Steve Ferrughelli 1974. Played for the Als, he didn't last long but he was a monster to defend against, he would bash for 5 and and fall for 3. Similarity to Cornish is that he was an upright runner as well. You must remember Jim Evenson. He was the same way. What a great fullback he was. I used to love watching Bob Houmard play. Blood & guts football. Nothing fancy. Just hit the hole running north-south punishing tacklers. Steve Ferrughelli 1974. He was bigger than most of the D-linemen trying to tackle him!
  3. For a moment I thought you were talking about Darryl Rogers who was horrible but realized you meant Urban Bowman who was not too bad 11-7. I believe Urban still resides in Sandy Hook.

  6. I have heard that it's been an adjustment since the are kicking from the middle of the hash marks. Very rare to have field goal not be from one of the hash marks. I think and old fashion straight ahead kicker might be good for converts. Lirim explained that the kick must be lined up between the goalposts and that he is comfortable lining it up with the left post.
  7. Football is full of illegal holding and interference that occurs away from the ball that has been taught to players since they were 6. These entrenched "techniques" have always been illegal but the refs. are now trying to clean up the cheating at the behest of the league. Imo it has to start with the coaching.
  8. I think that's the biggest takeaway for me... Richie Hall was mixing in more man coverage and is clearly adjusting his defensive plan - really like that. Surprisingly, he's our most creative coach right now. Would like to see him send Bass or Randle on blitz a bit more but I think that will come. If we had Wild in the middle, this would be a dominant team. Wild was not the solution to stopping the run, how soon we forget. Wild consistently read plays, had closing speed and could get to the QB... its not his fault Etch didn't think the run game was important. I'm not denying that Wild was a great player but he was out of position playing MLB.
  9. At this moment they're busy planning a league wide boycott of CFL games on a specific weekend to protest the new rules. I anxiously await instructions from my Green Master.

  11. If you're not happy discussing Marve, you might want to avoid all threads with his name in the heading.
  12. Hard not to agree... if that 2001 team had gotten the job done (they really should have)... we would all be a lot more patient today Losing to BC a few years ago in the Grey Cup wasn't unexpected. But that 2001 fail job is hard to swallow still. Even worse was the Riders Cup loss. We were a much better team and if not for that god damn broken arm we would have won. Of that I have no doubt. Hell, even with that complete loser Dinwiddie in the pocket we nearly won. Says a lot about that team that year and how mediocre the Riders were. For me the hardest thing to accept was that the Bombers went into the Grey Cup with a backup that had never played a single down of CFL ball. I still hate the "all eggs in one basket" approach to managing QB's to this day because of that experience.
  13. Doug Brown on the post-game show labelled players like Stoudermire as "coach killers" in that they tend to give coaches heart attacks. He explained that players such as Stoudemire that have immense talent are sometimes hard to coach (control) because they have supreme confidence in their abilities and will free-lance at the drop of a hat. Some times it works and sometimes it doesn't. I certainly wouldn't want to see Stoudermire in the D-backfield after a performance like that, to me it demonstrates that he probably has the attention span of a 4 year old.
  14. By the time O'Shea latches onto this theory Lirim will have corrected the flaw and it won't be pursued. When they hired O'Shea the thing I thought he had going for him was that he was creative and daring from his work on ST's in TO. In his time with Wpg. I have seen little evidence of those traits.
  15. Odds of success are probably less than 50% I would think. Why do you think that? No stats just a WAG.
  16. Odds of success are probably less than 50% I would think. On TSN they said the 2 point conversion was running around I believe 77 percent. Teams are hesitant to go for two but I think once we start seeing more success with the two point conversion and 1 point converts missed. (hello Winnipeg) we'll start to see a shift in mind set when it comes to going for two. Surprised no team has gone for the idea of trying for the 2 every time.
  17. What Collaros accomplished in his first season as Ray's replacement contradicts everything you just said. If Marve is dumb as a rock and unable to learn, he may not have the upside many see but I don't think that's the case. Pigeon-holing him into Willy and Brohms playing style is ignoring the obvious, he is more in the mold of Collaros or even Lulay. I understand completely why Marcel is happy to build his O around Willy, it literally provides him with career security in the long-term. Whether he can read a D or not Marve has already proven that he can accomplish twice as much as Brohm in half the playing time. Time will tell if his skills materialize into a career or fade away to nothing as you suggest.
  18. amazing. Ball looked like it almost got dropped on another return of his. fell out after he hit the ground. I won't be sad if he gets benched. True, he was down but the ball still came loose.
  19. I think the writing is on the wall for Marve, he doesn't fit into Marcel's system and is never going to unseat Willy. Unless he's happy being a backup like Tate there is not much upside for a young QB with ambition on this team. I don't think his NFL ambitions are realistic but I do expect to see him go to F.A. in the off-season to try to latch on with a CFL team that is willing to make better use of his skill set.
  20. Odds of success are probably less than 50% I would think.
  21. What's up with that? I noticed him doing that last year. He probably became addicted to smelling salts in his playing days and now needs them to get out of bed in the morning.
  22. Please emphasize "closest" sideline!
  23. I truly hope not, I was hoping he had ascended to #2 on the depth chart. That would be a good question for the Coach's Show.
  24. KBF you haven't had enough Crown to spell correctly tonight...back to the bottle with you.
