  4. @WiebeSunSports: Depth chart #Bombers sent out this am was incorrect. Steve Morley will start at C vs #Stamps but Goosen will get time to showcase his skills
  5. From today's Free Press: CALGARY — Winnipeg Blue Bombers head coach Mike O’Shea says rookie offensive lineman Matthias Goossen will get a long hard look at centre here Saturday night when the Bombers take on the Calgary Stampeders at McMahon Stadium. But O’Shea said at a downtown hotel today that Goossen won’t be the only centre the Bombers use tomorrow -- veteran Steve Morley will be the other -- and a depth chart the club sent out earlier in the day was in error when it listed Goossen as the only centre for Saturday’s final pre-season game for the Bombers. “He shouldn’t be the only one listed on the depth chart at centre. Morley will play centre too,” said O’Shea. “Goossen is going to get a fair shot. They’re not going to be equal repetitions, but they are going to be fair repetitions that are going allow us to evaluate them... The answer is not cut and dried. It will depend on the flow of the game and (starting QB) Drew Willy and how long he stays in the game.” Prior to last month’s CFL draft, Bombers GM Kyle Walters was adamant that whoever the Bombers took with the second overall pick would be expected to start immediately for the Bombers this season. But so far it’s been Morley who has been getting most of the first teams reps at centre, with the coaching staff bringing Goossen -- the man the Bombers took with the second pick -- along more slowly.
  6. He did play tackle in college but his scouting reports suggest his strengths are more suited to play inside at guard.
  7. He actually was a tight end in college then converted to guard on the line.
  8. Everyone just assumes Tate will suffer a season ending injury by halftime so Mitchell is the default starter.
  9. I re-watched the preseason game and focused on Neufeld, Pencer and Goossen. First, I can see why Pencer was cut after coaches watched the film. Pencer is slow and couldn't stop anyone. Whenever Pencer was beat, which was most plays, Neufeld and Goossen had to step in and help to slow the defender from getting to the QB. Both sacks against us were Pencer's fault. Second, Neufeld played both right guard and right tackle in the game. He appeared to be very solid at both positions. He engaged the defender well and he seems to have a bit of mean streak that doesn't get talked about much. Goossen also looked very good. Always looking to block someone. High energy guy and very strong. You can tell by watching him that he enjoys blocking defenders. He's going to be a beauty for us. Very good moves on Walters on getting both Neufeld and Goossen.
  10. My feeling is the coaching staff has Marve already penciled in as the 3rd string developmental guy and the backup job is between Hall and Brohm, with the loser of that battle ending up on the IR.
  11. I don't see Alexander - is he hurt too? On the bubble? Alexander is hurt. Doubt he's on the bubble.
  12. I like how most of our NI OL are quite versatile: Morley: T, G, C Neufeld, T, G, C Goossen: T, G, C Kowalczuk: G, C Greaves: G
  13. Try setting up shop in the men's washroom and see how long you can live in there without security kicking you out. #freebomberseasontickets
  14. January, Greaves, Morley, Knapp, Jones, Neufeld, Goossen. That's 7. Who comes off this list on game day?
  15. Exactly. Our Canadian talent isn't THAT bad.
  16. hindsight is 20/20 Bob. Bob was sh*tting himself worrying about the labour situation prior to last night.
  17. Very interesting...starting 3 non-imports on the o-line with Goossen at center and Neufeld at right tackle. Morley as backup RG. With no backup center, I wonder if the coaching staff will give Goossen an entire game to prove himself, to evaluate whether he's ready to begin the season as starting center?? Ford still not playing...I wonder if his roster spot is in serious jeopardy? Graig Newman starting at MLB is interesting.
  18. Where did you hear it was a hit and run?
  19. Actually only 12 days between games...preseason game is June 14 and home opener is June 26.
  20. I like Volny as a runner but it seems like every time he touches the ball he either fumbles or gets injured. Might be time to give Brooks a shot.
  21. In discussing the backup QB role...solely based on practice this year, based on what I've seen, Brohm wins the job hands down. Brohm looked very good today and Hall continued to struggle. But I'm sure the coaching staff also values Hall being here last year. I think if Brohm looks good Saturday, he could win the backup job, but based on past experience I currently give Hall a slight edge because he has previous experience with Belfeuille.
  22. Yep, that's Dan Knapp. Guy is a physical freak.
  23. Player online polling closes at 8pm tonight so we might hear results later tonight.
