As was said before, people need something to complain about around here, and now Rod Black is also off that list.

In your first sentence you say “we don’t have the luxury of developing them” and then in the last sentence you directly contradict it by saying he is still here because on this team “you may have more luxury figuring out potential”. This is the “run out of town” mentality on display a bit. Has he botched his kicking angles so far? Big time. But O’Shea seems to believe it is a correctable mechanical issue. Should have it already been corrected? Well, I think so but I am willing to defer to a professional kicker or a head coach who thinks more time is allowed. And the guy has been here for 3 games. Good luck to you if you ever had a job with a 3 week probationary period, and you were held responsible for the past guy’s mistakes. Let’s face it, after watching Liegghio miss some converts a lot of folks wanted him gone and were calling for the phenom with the big leg “Hakuna Mourtada” but after one miss from Mourtada it was immediately “here we go again, find another guy”. And now folks have revisionist history and wonder if we gave up on Liegghio too quickly, and give him another shot. Like we did with Hajrullahu, or Kamau “Incompleterson” who found his game in Edmonton, or likewise Adarius Bowman, who went from semi-average to the league’s best once he moved on. Brendan LaBatte said of Winnipeg fans after he left “In Saskatchewan they love you win or lose, in Winnipeg they love you win or tie. Well, maybe not tie”. I am not happy with Mourtada, and would hope we have a better option, but yeah 4 weeks seems like a rush to judgment, especially if the guy whose job depends on wins (O’Shea) is prepared to let this play out beyond one month and avoid a revolving door.

It’s a joke. She did those McCain commercials where she wanted to be invited to watch the big game but did not have an invitation, so would bake McCain wedge fries and then show up at the door plate in hand hoping the food would get her in the door. Now she is doing the “Come on!” Gambling site commercials on Sportsnet where everyone is watching TV yelling “Come on!” At the TV screen and then she yells it and they look at her like “who the **** let her in here?”

If Black was fired, TSN would not give him their Twitter feed to announce he was leaving. What I wonder is if he senses another slashing of staff and is getting out early. Like Cuthbert or Paul Edmonds before him, saw the implosion coming and got out before the axe fell on many. O’Toole was let go as part of the overall downsizing, but he also had a very public incident where we went on Twitter and basically accused his estranged wife of kidnapping their daughter and putting their life in danger. No charges came from any of it, but his mental health was put into question, and he took a “health leave” shortly thereafter. He then made a big stink on his way out the door about how Bell Media made a big show about “Let’s Talk” day, but was two-faced and insincere when it came to actually backing it up with real people. That was the same time Natasha Stanizewski was let go. Details are sketchy but it might have something to do with her continually crashing parties, first with McCain wedges and now as some kind of gambling racket.

Arbuckle won’t go back to Ottawa because of his contract dispute with Desjardins. So we give up a first rounder for Arbuckle, flip him to Montreal, they send Adams Jr to Ottawa (plus other compensation to be determined if his injury is long-standing) and Ottawa sends us Lewis Ward. Easy peasy.

You’ve had Maurice’s ass on the line since 2017. And you’ve had Wheeler as washed up for about the same time. You totally want them gone. It’s your refrain every year.
-
What a shock. 40 minutes into the season and you want Maurice and Wheeler gone. What, did they steal your lunch money in grade school?
-
Power play doing everything but scoring. Chance #4 coming up.

Well, we could run him out of town. Like we did with another kicker who set a club record for accuracy in his rookie year, and then got turfed the following season when the average dipped. Went elsewhere and re-found his game with a new team, became an all-star and then went on to the NFL. Went by the name of Hajrullahu or something. Remind me again who everyone is now begging management to bring back? Be careful what you wish for.
-
At least a couple of them do. And if you believe the rumour, one of the Jets’ married players got involved with an ice girl and left town in a trade later.
-
I love this idea. Want to see how the average armchair kicker handles the boos when they miss one, or gets 12 pages of hate speech on MBB describing how useless they are. O’Shea is keeping him for now, has identified the issue as an alignment one that is being worked on. Like it or not, he is the coach, and to quote the movie Moneyball, he is the man, he answers to no one but management and God. And given where he pulled this club from and where they are in the league at this moment, he’ll get my patience and acceptance if not my thunderous applause and unwavering approval at this time.

Also if you know what you are drafting for. Canadian players are supplemental pieces. I don’t want this to sound like a slight, but your starting QB, best receiver, best linebacker, top defensive back, dominant end rusher, even best o-lineman are now going to be American. Even with the current fad of Canadian running backs, it was not always this way. And the league is now shifting to American kickers. So trying to land a Canadian star at a glamour position is unlikely, and viewing the draft as a means to turn your organization around in one fell swoop with a franchise player is not reality. The draft is for long term depth building for the most part. It requires patience from upper management and tolerance from fans. Let’s not forget that it took Miller, Walters, O’Shea and co. 6 years and more than a few failures before they climbed the mountain, and on more than one occasion fans screamed for their heads, right up until we beat Calgary in the West semi. That patience has allowed us to (for now) be a team with long term success and not just a flash in the pan. Their draft strategy is a sign of that long term thinking and patience. Not every club approaches it that way or has that luxury.

I actually am on the same page as you with the karma thing. Keep your head down, keep the bragging to zero. One of the less endearing things about this site for me is the noise about our greatness and other teams’ suckiness. But it comes with the territory, and there is much more good on MBB than bad.
-
That’s surprising given that you want to, in your own words, “piss on everyone from the top of the mountain” now that the Bombers are on top and you can exact revenge for the last 29 years. Seems like you would enjoy the sparring with rival fans rather than just sitting and watching the game quietly. But to each his own. Hopefully you are still able to do your thing while others do theirs. I go to watch the game too and not mingle in the end zone, but they don’t get on my way and they bring in extra revenue for the club, so the entertainment side does not detract from my watching on any way. If your section is too rowdy maybe try moving seats to a more staid area.
-
Then go by your Moose season tickets and enjoy that rather than ripping on the big club. 😉
-
When you go to Bomber games do you sit in your seat and no nothing but watch the game? Or do you hang out at the Rum Hut? Who loved the racing dogs, the cheerleaders, the giant inflatable ball race? Do you enjoy the Hardrick hop? All of this is entertainment to draw new eyes when the game alone does not sell anymore. And it’s not just Americans who do it. Adding entertainment does not turn a franchise into a joke you can’t take seriously. Vegas has shown by the product on the ice that they are very serious about hockey and building a winning culture. The extra stuff is about providing fans entertainment value for their money. You want a joke franchise that is destroying a once serious hockey market? Look at Buffalo. Adapt or die.

Why in such a rush to get him to the NHL? Let him develop so when he arrives there are less hiccups. Keep his salary under control for a bit longer. Ville Heinola today is not the difference between a Stanley Cup and a lottery spot.

OK, so we don’t trust Mourtada right now. But maybe should we trust O’Shea and his judgment?
-
Funny that Mike O’Shea says he blocks the internet for the players (OK, not really, but he tells them NOT to read their press clippings, both good and bad) so that they don’t hear all the outside noise and just get down to business on their own. And no culture problem here. Any player worth anything shouldn’t need the internet to tell them how they are doing to get their internal motivation.

Already calculated all of this. This is current and accurate going into Week 11. Had Montreal lost to Ottawa yesterday we would have clinched. But quite simply, a win on Friday and we are in the playoffs. See below for the breakdown: So we have 16 points now. Calgary and BC can tie us in points and be ahead of us in the standings provided they win the season series. Saskatchewan and every Eastern team needs to get to 17 points minimum to pass us. Edmonton and Ottawa already cannot pass us based on the tiebreaking rules. So, although they have not mathematically clinched a crossover playoff spot yet, for the Bombers to miss the playoffs ALL of the the following needs to happen: - Bombers lose every game from here on out, including to Calgary by 3 or more points and to BC by 22 or more points. - Edmonton loses every game from here on out - Ottawa loses every game from here on out - Other than games involving Winnipeg, Edmonton, orOttawa, the remaining 6 teams must all get exactly these records in games against each other for all of them to finish ahead of Winnipeg: Sask: 1-1-1 Cal: 2-1 BC: 2-2 Tor: 1-2-1 Ham: 2-1-1 Mtl: 0-1-1 The odds of all of that happening are so small that I cannot compute it To simplify things, no matter what else happens, if the Bombers win one more game they clinch a West playoff spot. Win 2 and they clinch a home playoff date. If one of those two wins is against BC, or even if they lose to BC by 20 points or less but still win 2 games, they will finish number 1 in the West. So they can clinch top spot in the West within 2 weeks.
-
Just wanted to put your mind at ease. Who cares when the CFL figures it out, just want us to start the playoff prep as soon as possible. We all good.
-
The Bombers will officially clinch THIS week if they win. It is a mathematical impossibility for them not to, even if the next game involving Calgary and Sask is in the future. But I get what you are saying about how the league does these things. They won’t put the “X” in until next week’s game, but they could and should after this Friday if the Bombers win. But 4D chess has never been their strong suit, just look at video review.
-
Refs don’t share your imagination. They save all of their imagination for the replay booth when trying to conjure up an explanation for their decisions.
-
Yes, but even if Calgary wins, they still play Saskatchewan next week. If they lose then, then they go to six losses. If the Riders lose that game, they go to 5 losses and we would be 9-5 with the season series against them. So either way one of Calgary or Sask can’t pass us. All we need is a win and no matter what else happens we clinch a playoff spot.
