Not to denigrate MBT, but this FIFO stuff has run its course, in my opinion. My son teaches business administration and one of the case studies the class did was to look at the decline of General Motors from the biggest, most dominant auto manufacturer in the world to an also-ran. It came down to group-think and a rigid commitment to management enforcing a culture where different thinking meant a "lateral promotion". If a culture like FIFO in the Bombers means passing over players because they do not fit the norm, then a lot of talent will be lost. Monocultures do not endure or succeed for long.

Taman was hamstrung by a thin budget and a short leash from his GM. In that he was much like John Ferguson when he was Jet's GM who publicly stated he could have picked up the players needed to take a run at the Cup, but could not due to budget restraints from the provincial government that said the Jets had to be in the bottom third of NHL salaries.

Why the heck not Tui at center? He was highly touted as such when in college- that has been a sore spot with me for several years because whatever Kolankowski is getting paid, he ain't worth it and he affects the whole interior of the line.

Time to remind people that Taman did a reasonably good job when Bomber GM, considering what he had to work with and a GM who really didn't like him.

Given O'Shea's personality, I cannot see him willingly parting with his favoured but inadequate players. If he is ordered to do so, he may well, like Ahab lashed to Moby ****, go down with them, and that would not be a bad thing. If he is ordered to make those cuts and somehow chooses to stay as head coach, I would question how well he would function after that diminishing.
