Gaslighting Tucker Carlson says 'witch doctors' are 'lying' about NFL player Damar Hamlin's injuries Fox News host Tucker Carlson dedicated a segment of his Tuesday night show to gaslight his audience about the on-field injuries sustained by Buffalo Bills safety Damar Hamlin during a Monday Night Football game against the Cincinnati Bengals On Tuesday evening, Doctor Manohar Anigrekula, a cardiologist at Medical Healthcare System's ProCare Odessa Heart Institute in Texas, told Midland NBC affiliate NewsWest9 that Hamlin likely experienced an exceedingly rare condition called Commotio Cordis, which results from blunt force trauma to the heart. Carlson, however, put forth an entirely different narrative that Hamlin is actually a victim of a COVID-19 vaccine. Carlson's baseless hypothesis is especially egregious – not only because it was promulgated without confirmation of Hamlin's vaccination status – but also due to Carlson's allegations that "many others" were peddling "propaganda" about what happened to Hamlin. "What don't we know? Well, what we don't know could fill volumes, starting with why Damar Hamlin had a heart attack on a football field. We do not know the answer, and there is no way to know the answer. We're not going to lie to you and pretend we do know the answer, but that has not stopped many others from lying to you," Carlson said. "Hamlin was still lying on the field receiving CPR when self-described medical experts in the media people with no demonstrated medical ethics at all, effectively witch doctors decided to use his tragic, life-threatening injuries as an opportunity to spread still more propaganda about the COVID shots. It could not have been the shot. They told you, 'shut up.' But they're lying," Carlson added. "They don't know that. They don't know anything more than we know, which is effectively nothing. We can't say it was the shot. We can't say it wasn't the shot. We don't know whether he got the shot. We don't know, and neither do they. So why are they telling you they know something they don't? Well, it's not the first time, of course." https://www.alternet.org/tucker-carlson-gaslighting-witch-doctors/

This 'alarming' subvariant now accounts for 75 percent of new COVID-19 infections in the northeastern US: CDC Three years have passed since the COVID-19 pandemic began to attack the United States. Reports on what came to be called COVID-19 came from Wuhan, China in December 2019, and on January 21, 2020, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) first reported that it had “confirmed the first case of 2019 Novel Coronavirus (2019-nCoV) in the United States in the state of Washington.” Since it began three years ago, COVID-19 has, according to Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, killed more than 6.6 million people worldwide — including over one million in the United States. COVID-19 continues to be highly contagious in early 2023, but at this point, it isn’t nearly as deadly as it was in 2020 and 2021. Millions of people have been vaccinated and the majority of COVID-19 infections in the U.S. are not fatal and do not require hospitalization. COVID-19, in 2022, was dominated by its Omicron variant and the various Omicron subvariants. According to CNN reporter Brenda Goodman, the subvariant XBB.1.5 has become increasingly prominent — so prominent, in fact, that the CDC is now attributing 75 percent of new COVID-19 infections in the northeastern U.S. to XBB.1.5. Goodman, in an article published on CNN’s website on January 3, explains, “On Friday, (December 30), the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's COVID-19 variant dashboard revealed a new dark horse that could soon sweep the field: XBB.1.5. The CDC estimates that XBB.1.5 has more than doubled its share of the COVID-19 pie each week for the last four, rising from about 4 percent to 41 percent of new infections over the month of December. In the Northeast, the CDC estimates, XBB.1.5 is causing 75 percent of new cases.” Pavitra Roychoudhury of the University of Washington School of Medicine's virology lab in Seattle told CNN, “For a few months now, we haven't seen a variant that's taken off at that speed.” XBB.1.5, according to Goodman, was “first detected in New York and Connecticut in late October.” https://www.alternet.org/this-alarming-subvariant-now-accounts-for-75-percent-of-new-19-infections-in-the-northeastern-us-cdc/

The probability is that the blunt-force impact to the chest caused his heart to fibrilate- that is, stop pulsing in a regular heartbeat and essentially shiver. The AED shocks the heart out of its shivering (sort of a heard reboot) and give it chance to resume its regular pumping. We were told the magic number is 3- three minutes without oxygenated blood reaching the brain and other vital organs, three days without water, or three weeks without food and you are irrevocably damaged or dead. It may all come down to how soon the AED was applied and how soon and consistently the CPR was done.

There is pretty good evidence that significant steroid usage during the teen years when bodies are going through massive hormonal and muscular changes can produce enlarged and/or weakened hearts in otherwise healthy young adults. We will probably never know if this is the case here,

Aaaand...away we go.... Moderate House GOP May Bolt And Form ‘Coalition Government’ With Democrats The conversations have started on a potential House government between moderate Republicans and Democrats if the House GOP can’t get it together. It would just take six House Republicans who decide they don’t want to live in crazy land for the next two years for a coalition majority to happen. It is important to note that these conversations are not originating with Democratic House leadership. This is something moderates are starting to rumble about and kick around. https://www.politicususa.com/2023/01/03/moderate-gop-coalition-house-of-representatives.html

Donald Trump Jr. Gets Holy Hell Over Bible Fundraiser Video. Donald Trump Jr. is selling Bibles on social media. The eldest son of Donald Trump was accused of “peak grift” over a video promoting a “We The People” Bible. The Trump scion said the book defended America’s “Judeo-Christian” values, which he claimed are under attack. It comes as key evangelical figures turn their backs on the former president, who has launched a third run for the White House amid a slew of criminal investigations into his conduct. Twitter account PatriotTakes shared the clip of Trump Jr. online last week. It went viral for the wrong reasons on Monday after being retweeted by outgoing Rep. Adam Kinzinger (R-Ill.), a fierce critic of the ex-president and his administration, among others. https://www.huffpost.com/entry/donald-trump-jr-promotion_n_63b3d6a6e4b0cbfd55e3977a

“Sick disgusting human beings”: Right-wingers use NFL player’s collapse to push anti-vax conspiracy. MAGA conservatives tried to score political points after the Buffalo Bills' Damar Hamlin collapsed on the field Right-wing anti-vaxxers pushed a debunked conspiracy blaming COVID shots after NFL player Damar Hamlin collapsed on the field on Monday. Hamlin, a 24-year-old safety for the Buffalo Bills, suffered a cardiac arrest and collapsed on the field after a scary hit to his chest during the Monday Night Football matchup against the Cincinnati Bengals. Players surrounded Hamlin as he received CPR for about nine minutes before being taken off the field in an ambulance. The game was postponed and Hamlin was taken to a local hospital. "Damar Hamlin suffered a cardiac arrest following a hit in the Buffalo Bills' game versus the Cincinnati Bengals. His heartbeat was restored on the field and he was transferred to the University of Cincinnati Medical Center for further testing and treatment. He is currently sedated and listed in critical condition," the Bills said in a statement early Tuesday. The scary moment led to an outpouring of support and prayers for the young second-year player and an online toy drive fundraiser launched by Hamlin quickly raised more than $3 million in donations in the hours after his collapse. But some right-wing anti-vaccine conspiracy theorists used the incident to stoke a widely debunked claim that the COVID vaccine is causing young, healthy athletes to suddenly collapse. "This is a tragic and all too familiar sight right now: Athletes dropping suddenly," tweeted Charlie Kirk, the head of the Trump-allied Turning Point USA. "There have been too many recent #diedsuddenly cases to deny it anymore," wrote failed Nevada GOP gubernatorial candidate Joey Gilbert.

Good luck to them enforcing that. Kids can watch horrific torture and killing scenes on all manner of TV programs, but watching people having sex is no ok. Weird.

Mark Milley’s testimony reveals Trump plan to get back at retired military officers who criticized him The Jan. 6 insurrection testimony of General Mark Milley revealed that there were conversations among members of the Trump administration to court-martial retired military officers who criticized Trump’s handling of 2020 civil unrest in published op-eds, Insider reports. A 20th Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff and top military aide to Trump since 2019, Milley’s testimony was part of a trove of documents the committee released earlier this week. The testimony includes Rep. Elaine Luria (D-VA) asking if Milley considered approaching former Trump advisor, Michael Flynn, about the administration's desire to enforce military action against the retired officers. Milley said he was “concerned about the politicization of the military” after op-eds “very critical of then President Trump” by retired military officers were published. Milley said, "There was actually discussions with me: Bring him back on Active Duty, court-martial him, you know, make him walk the plank sort of thing, right? I advised them not to do that, because that would further politicize, in my personal view." Retired military officers the administration targeted for court-martialing were not named during testimony, but according to Insider, a few did publish op-eds criticizing the way Trump responded to nationwide protests following George Floyd’s murder in 2020. For Foreign Policy, retired Marine Corps General John Allen wrote, “Donald Trump expressed only the barest of condolences at the murder of George Floyd, but he also said nothing about the fundamental and underlying reasons for the unrest: systemic racism and inequality, a historic absence of respect, and a denial of justice.” Allen also highlighted that Trump "threatened to deploy the U.S. military against American citizens." https://www.alternet.org/mark-milley-testimony-military-trump/

Former Bombers in NFL (and spring leagues) news

Personal biases are just as prevalent in the NFL as elsewhere. Its not necessarily the best players who start, but the ones the coaches like best or are emotionally invested in. -

A bit over the top but a good point nevertheless.

Too late! A good deal of the GOP is already radicalized. Some of them were there but latent, and others gravitated to the party when Trump ascended to the leadership. As has happened in Canada, this has and will continue to cause a rift in the right wing which will cause a formal split, then two solitudes, then a shotgun marriage when they get tired of being out of power, but it will be an uneasy union at best.

Agreed. The general public reactions to Trump's cheating on his taxes and not being audited was admiration, not anger, and that shows the mindset of much of American society. Its called economic cannibalism where one or more members of a society enrich themselves by feeding on others. That will ultimately doom them as it did in Rome and many other civilizations. It is not sustainable, but for those enjoying the short term gains, it is worth sacrificing the future in order to feast on the present to the point of gluttony.
