It's time to hand the ball to Streveler.
Booch replied to White Out's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
That is a 3 yr old report..tho some still holds true..but guy can throw.. over 4300 yards in his senior season. He just needs a playbook with more than 5 plays like he has been force fed this year...and the game plan needs to be tailored to him. With his run threat we need to move the pocket..use roll outs and varied misdirection and motion plays...if he is bootlegging and rolling out he will gouge teams big time because the cone up too soon and ge has guys left open..they hand back too long he will get huge gains. A game plan tailored for him...frst team reps all week...good oline and his run ability..he will do ok..as long as he doesnt try to be a hero and run ball controlled offense..he can win Dont try to make him play a style that's not him..thats my one fear with cutesy lapo..his thinking he gonna fool teams. -

Yeah give Streveler a game plan with the actual play book and he can do the exact same ball control offence Nichols does. If anything probably a bit more diversified and allowing Harris more space. Lapo has to throw out the trickery and gimmick **** and let the play makers do their thing. With Strev in now..and using multiple motion and misdirection stuff teams wont know what to key on or who to focus on and will open up a lot of options. Teams are gonna start cheating in and then we can hit them with the deep shots down the field. This idea Strevler cant throw is off base..he just needs repetition and plays..with designed routes to actually get the ball to allow him to progress..not the stuff Lapo has him running Lapos stupidly timed change of pace thing there when the offence was humming was the stupidest thing done all year..what he was trying to accomplish other than kill momentum was baffling -
BEST description ever

thats was when he had 3 legit threats at receiver to throw to...so you had to pick your poison in coverage...he doesn't have that now...we pay a lil extra attention to Burnham...have the D-line keep Reilly unsettled and pop him every chance they get..I see us strolling to an easy win to be honest

Most likely if Eli turns into the bonafide starter he should be based on his college career, be a good bet that he takes over in the middle and Couture becomes the extra guy again..Especially if Desjarlais keeps progressing and for 2020 we could see a young interior of Desjarlais and Gray flanking whoever is the better of Eli and Couture at center...and the other being the 6th..pretty good young group to move forward with and still a lot of upside even though they are handling things just fine now..so future looks really good. Not sure of Neufelds contract status and if he signed into 2020 but I can honestly see him traded/dropped in off-season...if not even traded this year for draft pick for 2020...makes fiscal sense to roll with the young guys at cheaper cost now to allow signing/retaining other talent with Neuf's $$ and draft and develop another young O-line man and keep that pipeline flowing...not having to bring in free agent lineman at big cost, and have the ability to have good talent at entry level deals mixed in with a vet salary and recycling that process is very beneficial for our SMS

He actually asked to do that..wanted more snaps as he wasnt getting any as backup and team took advantage of his skill set as ball carrier. Would love to see on one of those wildcat formations they hit him an a quick slant or crosser in full gallop..he'd raise some serious havoc in second level with full head of steam. I hope they also incorporate Janarius Grant into the mix..hes made plays out of the wildcat too in college..completed some passes too..hes a lefty I believe as well -

What I like about Strevler is he likes to push the ball downfield..he might not progress through all his reads but he immediately goes to the money makers and if not there he takes off as opposed to the check down..accomplishes the same end result in effect..with less wear on Harris in the process. Ala a young Dunnigan.. -
That was a point I was trying to make as well in a different thread..a play may call for a timing throw to a spot on field..and if a receiver muffs his route..the qb ends up looking bad. Not sure if people know or are aware of how some routes are drawn up but vcd there are several benchmarks used on the field that a play is designed for..and sometimes the slightest of things can mess it all up... Just like too once a QB and a receiver have that mental connection then it's easier to throw a guy open or adlib on the play. The one long td to Demski was an example of it when Demski pushed his defender toward side line and made subtle shift down between hashes..that was not the intended design..but Nichols was in Demskis head space and seen what he was doing and threw it to a spot that only Demski could get to it..

Tougher for tackles...the first step and the angles and gap responsibilities are way different.. have to be a lot quicker and have more finesse and technical skills cause you cant get your mitts on a guy right off the snap
-
The line play is a fairly significant adjustment..especially with hand fighting and being used to a guy right on u..as apposed to that yard off..seems like an insignificant thing but its not
-
If eli dresses he will be in on short yardage..I sure he up to game speed and knows his position requirements now. Even in camp he showed why he was regarded as one of the top centers in the NCAA..just was a bit rusty and aerobically not where he should be..and also was his first time playing Canadian ball so had to learn the technique for that..
-
No loss..never even noticed him when dressed. Now that Kongbo is back this was inevitable
-
I expect Speller will play, and if not start will be the 6th...it's not like he was knocked out of the game..he came in for short yardage and as well as the final drive Seeing as Rios apparently practiced he may be pulled off the 6 game if he already hasn't been...if him and Humes aren't able to go..then it's Mike Jones I would think
-
NO...cause Nichols has shown..repeatedly he can do more than check down....and push the ball vertically...any QB at the pro level can...or should be able to or they have no reason to be a pro He's shown it this year...had one bad game in Hamilton...and Lapo has now turtled....
-
BUT ....If we score 2 or more offensive touchdowns are we trending back upward? I would think that if you lead a league in TD's from start..to current point..and continue to do so...you must be in a positive trend???...or am I wrong
-
Aand still tops in the league 😁😁

Claybrooks isn't going anywhere next year...Only place I can see a new guy coming in is maybe T.O...If Khari keeps things in the right direction there I can't see them getting rid of him..why take a step forward then 2 backwards. I think the only way we are without Lapo next year is if Management gets rid of him in off-season...or he gets a too good to turn down NCAA opportunity...neither of which I can see happening
-
actually...Oshea was a hardnosed mean sob of a player who would do that actually...hahaha...so maybe his tendency to be very evasive Look at Simoni Lawrence last game vs B.C...Deliberately tried to make that injury to Reilly worse..total indicator that he is a dirty P.O.S and if you ask me eye in sky should have penalized that..he was literally trying to take him out
-
And the even more frustrating part it appears this is by design
-
Looking at some numbers...you can see the Lapo trend creeping in...when Nichols took over against Edm in 2015 he averaged 255 yards a game, on a not very good team where the defense was on the field a lot...taking time away from offence and that was a part year. 2016 he averaged 283 yards a game with 8 games at just under 300 yards or over(287/289/299/301/304/330/341/390) 2017 he averaged 283 yards a game with 8 games at just under 300 yards or over (282/319/319/331/358/364/371/390) 2018..well we all know what went on there..injured..coming back injured..good defense and averaged 216 yards a game and 2 games at just under 300 yards or over (291/358) 2019 is averaging 219 yards a game..darn good defense...really deep well rounded team with 1 game at just under 300 yards or over (295) Now do you see a trend here folks?..he is being put in a situation to not take an unnecessary chances..do enough to win and not turn the ball over..and 9 times out of 10 win the T.O.P battle...this is by design...not by lack of skill or talent.....a ball control offence...using a work horse in Harris (a bit too much for my liking mind you) and playing smart..most wins next to CGY over past 3 years seems to show it's a working formula...but not one of popular opinion All the while though since 2017 leading league in offensive points and having pretty much a 3:1 TD to INT ratio mind you..Impressive none the less....another thing of note you can almost see/sense Nichols wanting to..or about to loose his **** to the media with the constant questions/nagging about stats..or lack thereof despite the teams record...and who would blame him
-
That's how i see it too....and over the last 2 years has morphed into this again..I can see using the ball control offence...low risk..take shots when they are there...but c'mon man take the shots...from my seat in stadium you can clearly see they are there...but sooner or later guys are gonna loaf and not sell the deep routes...and who can blame them... you have to use "all" the weapons just to keep defense's honest, and the last couple games we havn't even really done that...and that's a recipe for failure. As a defensive guy, I would be using a linebacker to shadow/spy Harris and lurk in the weeds...watch Nichols first read and then bee-line to Harris...
-
I'VE been advocating for that for a couple years now...why I don't know...I honestly think that it's because Lapo has no kahonies and doesn't want any type of turn over...sure it's working kinda...but as we saw in WF last year if you can shut that down..then what. Why we don't pull guys away with any vertical push to allow for those crossing patterns to be generally a one on one match-up...a lot of times with a guy in trail position is just baffling...we have all the tools to run this type of system, yet avoid it like the plague. This would also open up more lanes and areas for Harris to work without 5-6 guys in the box or inside the sticks. To have a guy like Lucky, or Demski isolated with what would likely be a linebacker across the middle, while you use your big shot guy like Matthews..and now Lawler taking defenders (and the safety) away from the LOS with Woli running intermediate crossers and drags would be hard to stop with the threat of Harris in the backfield...pick your pinion basically...cheat on the guys like Lucky and Demski and you will have one of Matthews or Lawler freed up deep...defend against that with deep zone and safety over the top..HarriS, Lucky and Demski eat you up. Now factor in sets with Strev running the full package and that extra option/that he offers...good luck defending that....SAD part and fact of the matter is Nichols can make all the throws and run an offence like this, but isn't allowed to..and thats on the OC I remember when Nichols took over for Willy..we were dinking and dunking and and had no vertical threat at all...as soon as Matt stepped in we were immediately throwing deeper passes...pushing the ball...it was like night and day...so why things slowly changed is odd
