Mekale Mckay could tho....Unproven in CFL..but a BIG BIG Threat at every other level
-
money better spent elsewhere..not a dire need
-
Maybe by fans...but not coaches and players around the league
-
I don't think he figured them out...caught many off-guard at first, as he was generally just a runner, but as season rolled on...his stats declined. Plus teams were flatfooted on a lot of his deep throws...most of which hung up there and basically was a 50/50 or one where db was in chase a bit, as nobody knew he could, or would throw...Those balls will be easy picks now, as they wee moreso later in season...he has a noodle arm, and not a lot of pocket poise McGuire has a cannon..throws on a line, and can and will stand in the pocket...looking forward to more reps from him this year
-
when you look at his numbers, he averaged 239 yards passing with 1 TD and .44 picks per game... ran for 10 TD's as well...and couldn't lead them to a home win in their own barn in a playoff match where winner gets to cup...Are those 500k a year and elite QB creds?? .and best QB in league...yeah I didnt think so either....which makes it even more funny Conversely Strev accounted for 20 Td's (passing and running) in probably 1/3 of the reps...was a key component in play-off wins with 2 games on the road (on a broken foot to boot) as well as key in winning a Grey Cup...interesting...also of note in only his second year in the CFL and really only his 3rd real year as an actual full fledged QB
-
Thats how Rider fans view things....always has been...They shat all over his original signing...now he is the best in league...laughable
-
what he's had for 5 years...a seat on the bench due to lack of starter talent....Shows how out to lunch Rider Management must be to reward a guy that after 1 season of moderate success...it's not like he lit things up and only led the league in passing because every other starter went down hurt...but good signing...for the other 8 teams!!
-
that double de-cleater never gets old...especially after we just scored and that sapped any momentum for their next drive right outta them
-
i think I recall that, but I think to just replace someone when injured...I'd like to see it as an actual starter
-
agreed, and I'd go one step further to honor tenure and loyalty...can count as a non-import...would also encourage continuity, and those Americans who choose that route....would be paid as a starting Canadian and benefit $$ wise as well instead of jumping all over trying to chase the almighty dollar, and generally outside of QB's and the odd superstar never do get to their Canadian counterpart's salary level anyway
-
hahaha....good luck with that..especially with zippidy do dah for an o-line
-
gotta have your heart in where you are playing...who would get pumped to play in front of that gene pool
-
Nailed it...was a joke...but a good joke cause we saw Bryant play the Grey Cup with just a bit extra...he was a force...watch him downfield on several runs...Harris 2nd and long he ripped off Bryant was a monster is one that comes to mind..almost killed Darvin and Harris hahaha Another thing overlooked is Bryant in the locker room...true example of the quiet leader, and when speaks...ALL ears open up and listen
-
yeah I assumed it was Brescani..I just didn't remember the name so didnt wanna throw one out there hahaha And I don't want to rid the ratio, as it gives an avenue for Canadians to get a foot in the door, and get that chance....and yes you still have to have that Canadian content outside the actual CFL game itself in terms of players, but I would like to see more Americans allowed to be role/ST guys and get a shot as well, deepens the talent on the field, as well as encourages more guys to continue their dream, and draws better talent up to Canada. But there are guys who didn't come not from lack of passion...but being behind the 8-ball right from the get go, and really no shot of landing a spot, other than un-seating an established vet (which rarely happens cause thats playing with fire) and watching a lesser player with no business of being ahead of you on depth chart soley because they have to be...its a shame, but also a nature of the beast of the CFL
-
thats why him losing the award last year was such a joke...and was so apparent in the Grey Cupo...One guy locked **** down...had his team rush for almost 200 yards, and the other looked like a turnstyle and had his offence dominated...well in the end Bryant got the trophy he wanted more anyway...with his boys along with him
-
never said some canadians couldn't compete and become stars..they do now, and often....but are the minority...and some may not have become stars as well if the talent pool they were competing against was stronger too...BTW last time i checked Begelton was an import. And hardly an outdated point of view...sure the canadian boys have gotten way better, and a lot of that has to do with American coaching in American football environments, but at same point those American guys at same time have been getting better too...so thats kind of a wash, and more than a few guys would lose a spot if ratio was reduced, or eliminated. You also hit nail on head that more Canadians than ever have been signed to NFL deals, or PR spots, but that doesn't help elevate the CFL game in anyway, and from my time in the sport the best of the best Canadians always got shots, thats nothing new, it's just more Canadians now have taken their talent to the south for their formative years, and college, and are trained and play as Americans with all the perks, bells and whistles...in essence are basically U.S ball players. The main reason for the lack of Canadian talent, especially at skill positions is soley at the feet of the poor Canadian Football Coaching, Facilities and training available to them here, hence the best generally bolt south for college, or as in many cases finish off their highschool at US prep schools....I see it every year. We run training and combine/development camps and every year the Canadian enrollment grows...this is in the U.S btw...and generally the new crop of guys you can pick out the Canadians and Euro guys right away in skill assessment drills and measurables from the Americans...after a couple off seasons though of proper training and training/scrimmaging at élite talent at their age its like night and day...its just the way it is Sure the ratio has given a guy the opportunity in a lot of cases to get that chance....can't deny that, won't dispute that...but that doesn't happen overnight, and the end result generally isn't the best option you "could" have had.. Also not sure who you were referring to as some wanna be who wanted to come here and doesn't have the passion to make it...you would be utterly shocked at the talent...recognizable name talent that balked...they had passion, but also brains...why risk injury and future possible lively hood, time and effort to compete for a spot that basically you know you have a 1% shot at making, and thats only if a whole bunch of things go right in your fight for it

If Speller is a casualty I'm not too concerned if we re-up Neuf, as we also have ELI and he will be when all said and done the best of the lot for our young guys of Speller, Couture and him
-
is he not under contract through 2022?
-
Bryant being back was never in doubt...same with Hardrick and Neuf will be soon to follow

The CFL itself is the Canadian version of football which already makes it better than the American version...regardless of who is playing...my opinion and not looking for people to jump on board with my thought. I'll watch it and support it if it was all Chinese players..American..Canadian...Russian, as long as they are the best and the money forked out to watch is worth the talent on the field...plain and simple and hamstringing the GM's with a set amount of players based on Passport should be a thing of the past and teams should be able to earn more leeway based on tenure and loyalty Sure it's nice to see Billy (Joe..Butt Cracks finest) ply his trade, but come on...you can watch that at the junior...CIS or highschool level, where that player might be a star...Canadians can and always will compete, but I dont think in the numbers that are being force fed on teams...Watch any game, and 9 times out of 10 most of those Canadians who aren't starters rarely hit the field save for a special teams play, so how much enjoyment and excitement does that give the fan, but if you had a guy like a Whitehead, or an extra monster rushing off the edge to come in and cause some havoc...cause it's allowed roster wise...pretty sure nobody would be booing and cancel their seats for the next game....Times are changing as has the ratio over the years....the game is Canadian..Americans have been in it...forever There has been so many instances where high level guys have balked at coming up here soley based on ratio, and prior FYI's from players here they know..or got turfed due to it that tried and were flat out told to not waste their time. effort and chance from injury because you may be competing for a spot on a team with a player who couldn't start currently with an NCAA team (or be hard pressed) and may only stick...may...if a team finds some lucky gem and can re-work the ratio...we have lost a lot of high end talent from coming, and with that a lot of street cred and ability to truly legitimize the league...and thats just sad....they also know as well there's no chance to get on a roster as a back up special teamer cause majority of those as well are dictated by ratio ..
-
I...Being a Canadian who played, to be honest could care less about the ratio, and really would rather see the best of the best play, have some Canadian content sure, keep the rules but getting rid of the better talent to meet a roster requirement is counter productive. I am in the camp you reward top level Americans who show loyalty with same club as Non Import status guys after 4 years with same team, as long as they continue to re-up..it benefits team...player and fanbase If a joe average fan had an opportunity to watch a top level NCAA guy, or former NFL name, game in and game out...or the opportunity to watch Billy Joe Jenkins from butt crack Sask who would have a hard time making a PAC 10 school...just cause he's Canadian..well I know what I would want/choose...especially if I am forking out money for it.. As for the poster who said it would be equivalent of just becoming NCAA North...You are way off the mark there...sorry...Sure the college game is glitzy and looks so high end, but all those powerhouse teams if lucky have 2..maybe 3 élite guys who are can't miss guys, the core are guys who if get an opportunity at next level "may" make a pro team (NFL or CFL) and the majority are just guys playing out the boyhood dream and string and fall off the map after they are done...I played in the NCAA and know the talent drop off from pros to school...its huge, and u are for most part talking about teenagers and 20..21..22 yr olds against men...it be a ass whipping...and even with a CFL team...and thats not even factoring in the perceived under valuing of the talent in Canada. Players and coaches who have toiled in both will all tell you the same...sure the NFL gets the cream of the crop for skilled guys for the most part, and then fill their rosters with body types and specialists for certain roles. They all aren't the athletic freaks people like to think they are...you try and run a defence in canada with no huddle offence against u...20 second play clock and all the motion and looks that can get presented their heads will be spinning and those dline man would be toast..quickly An NFL team may have 7-10 genetic freaks where a CFL team may have 2..maybe 3....but the overall athlete needed in the Canadian game is far superior...Talk to any AMerican player who played here...or still is..they will tell u QB in CFL as well needs to be probably more intelligent and also have a quicker processing of info..with all the varied looks, the more complex offences to run, and that doesnt even factor in that extra man...You ever wonder why a lot of young qb's make what looks like a stupid throw, or right at a defender and u go.."how the fguck did he not see that guy?!?!?" Well he didn't...don't expect a guy to be therte, or comes from a spot they not used to...that defender is a ghost to them, and they get burned by it...and then start to second guess..and hang on to balls too long...cause they flustered... Fact of the matter its a totally different game..apples to oranges..and U.S trained guys who excel here, are the better all around athlete in regards to brain....skillset, and conditioning...not the best football players walking the planet, but the best football players playing a diffgerent brand of football...don't get me wrong here either saying the top nfl recievers..db's ..rb's etc etc wouldnt excell...they would, but that whole NFL roster wouldn't
-
he also has craze pocket sense, and iron balls in the pocket...will stand in there to let things develop and take his shot..no happy feet and behind our o-line...he's gonna get even more polished hanging in there knowing he won't get be-headed...this is huge for a young thrower...too many guys have been ruined playing behind swiss cheese....look no further than Willy right here in the Peg
-
as I have mentioned before....best all around set of tools in tool box then we have had in a longtime...and has a right cannon.....safe to say one of best in league...wont see him underthrowing anyone on deep bombs, or having a ball hang there for a 50/50...If we get a guy behind coverage (hello Lucky)...they gone!!
-
I would bet Harris and Bryant would...off top my head, or come back at same salary if it worked
-
McGuire will be back...Bank on it I'm fine with a tandem of Collaros and McGuire to "start" the season.....he had the best skill set of all the QB's we have had probably for the last 3-4 years...we will impress if given opportunities.. Nice to see the Rider's bringing back bottom teir guys who couldn't get it done for them 2 yrs ago...Labatte...pfft...quickly fading fast..Clarke...One of the most over-rated guys in league next to Marshall really...nothing like settling if you ask me Marshall has one big play every 3-4 games and many times being useless, and yapping game in and game out, as well as being a selfish player and taking selfish penalties..not a true team guy by any stretchso great signings by them dor the rest of the league
