  1. True that. Under Kelly, the Bombers were a massive unknown. You didn't really know what you were going to get. I remember being in the Montreal airport on a flight delay, watching Bishop's first game on TSN when we were on a losing streak, fearing we might not win another game all year with him at QB... and then we beat someone (I think Toronto) because TEdwards decided he was going to be superman. The score was something pathetic like 13-12. I got super drunk that day... That was nothing compared to part of 2012 and 2013 under Burke. I just felt numb watching that team flounder it's way to nothingness. I even voluntarily passed on going to a game because to go on a fishing trip, and couldn't find a taker for free tickets.
  2. OMG, serious?? So you have 3 starting calibre NI's in Watson, JFG and Kohlert. Not game changing players, but starter quality NI receivers. And you have an OL that has been deficient for a number of years. Watman shores up a guard position for you immediately, and could be our ticket to no Morley by year's end. Etienne is signed to backup the 2 NI starting receivers; and at least has some upside to him. How is that terrible? Apparently Morley is no longer the problem many on here imagined he was. So, get rid of Steve Morley who's playing well at centre for us & bring back Jade Etienne a failure at receiver. Great suggestions on this thread. If you're referring to my comment you misunderstood. To re-state Morley is no longer considered a problem. Bob Wylie says so. Not your comments but Armchair GM's. Think you missed the "by year's end" part of my post. Morley is adequate at center. Everyone would agree that Goossen is our C of the future. Provided he develops and starts at C for us by the end of the year, I'm not sure anyone on this forum would support Morley to ever play G for this organization again, unless we're in a real pinch. For years we've griped about our inadequate OL... to keep someone who has been adequate or below for the past 4 years, if we have the opportunity to make it better, would be ridiculous. Having Greaves, Goose, Neufeld, and Watman would give us the opportunity to have 4 young NI OL's that we can start; and possibly even a 4th NI OL if we wanted to do that. For the opportunity to have depth and talent at NI OL... I'd deal Watson and sign Etienne to back up our NI WR's. I think some people forget, but Etienne showed some ability last year.
  3. Please don't ever say that.... I meant it only in the context of Goltz as a short yardage QB. I don't remember him not getting the short yards required. However when Boltus played very seldom did we ever make it in the same situation. Marve does not seem to have that sixth sense to exploit the weakest area of a short yardage defence. So Goltz was better than Boltus. That's like saying a pile of **** is better than having a truckload dumped on you. I sorely miss Chris Brazzell more than I sorely miss Goltz...
  4. Are we really assuming that Marve is being replaced for not being a great short yardage QB? By that same logic, Goltz should replace Marve on the roster. Outside of Griller... I can't think anyone wants that again. Forget whether or not our OL is generating a satisfactory push. You CAN'T choose your developmental QB based on whether or not he can dive forward for a first down. Especially when that QB has shown the promise that Marve has.
  5. OMG, serious?? So you have 3 starting calibre NI's in Watson, JFG and Kohlert. Not game changing players, but starter quality NI receivers. 6. I have no idea how this game is going to go. I like that our defence is unpredictable and multiple enough that it could give Reilly fits. I like that we have the better QB. Edmonton's got a formidable front 7, and Reilly's ability to improvise with his feet could hurt us. Bombers desperately need to start using the screen passing game. Teams are blitzing us with increasing volume and effectiveness. An effective screen game is a needed counter. Grigsby/Cotton could be monsters on screens.
  7. Honestly, not a terrible suggestion. Jay Detain is at least durable enough to backup JFG and Kohlert. I don't think I'm delusional enough to think we'd get Watman for Watson and a 3rd... I wouldn't deal my 6th OL for a chronic injury risk and a long shot (especially when I'm starting 4 NI's on the OL), but if Taman wants to do it, I wouldn't think twice about pulling that trigger. Watson backing up Getzlaf, he'd never see the field. And Sask doesn't have the NI depth at WR to start him.
  8. F*** off with the francais... especially this Als winning BS!
  9. Bombers made a move that Mack/Burke would have been too chickenshit to make... favoring QB protection over starting a 3rd NI on D. And a Cordaro Howard that we could have easily cut, but kept around, will make a huge difference, giving Willy time to operate against a great MTL front 7. Bombers 29 - Montreal 24, in a game that somehow will be close.
  10. Ottawa's got a fully built-out rapid transit network including buses and light rail... and citizens accustomed to using them regularly. They're way better setup for their transpo plan than we are for ours.
  11. Don't you just love O'Shea? Curious to wonder what type of team we'd have if we hired Higgins instead... not that Higgins has proven anything either way as an HC... just that O'Shea has had this kind of impact on a completely moribund franchise this quickly.
  12. Glad the Bombers are favoring protecting Drew Willy by playing the best available OL, but where do we slot another Canadian in? Guessing Teague Sherman has perhaps "earned" starters reps, and Stephan would then get backup reps? Would this new NI spot slot in at dime?
  13. Eskimos at #1 are you kidding me? They've beaten two total messes of teams right now in Hamilton and BC. I'll give you this: both are better than they have played, but Hammy and BC have put up 2 absolute stinkers. Not worthy of #1. My power rankings (which count for absolutely nothing, but are based purely on strength of each team right now): 1) Calgary 2) Sask 3) Toronto 4) Winnipeg 5) Edmonton 6) Hamilton 7) BC 8) Ottawa 9) Montreal Neutral field, no adverse effect of a short/long/bye week... I think Hamilton beats BC, Ottawa, and Montreal right now. They SHOULD beat Winnipeg and Edmonton as well, but the way they're playing right now, I think WPG and EDM are better now. Keep in mind they haven't played a home game yet, and could be setup for failure this year the same way WPG was when we dealt with IGF's delays.
  14. So now we can forgive Walters for the Korey Banks transaction? No mistakes are still mistakes. We can talk about good and bad without having to ignore one or the other. Can't hit homeruns without taking big swings... sometimes you guess fastball, and you get a curveball. Banks was a slider in the dirt.
  15. Alouettes pass rush is going to be a huge factor in this game. Everything hinges on it. If our OL gets manhandled like BC's... we'll be in trouble. If MTL gets up early, Troy Smith will be running the low-risk read option/screen pass offense all game. If our OL can protect well, Willy should be able to operate and get us an early lead, and Troy will be forced to throw downfield. It'll be a romp for us if that happens. One of those games that I don't think will be close... it'll be won by 10+ either way.
  16. Floyd nailed most of it. Thought we started showing blitz and dropping back more... better deception. Saw lots of zone dogs used too, because Hank handled the overload blitzes we threw at him early very well.
  17. You've gotten 4 pages of replies. Pretty good trollwork. It's no longer fun. Seeya.
  18. Not only completely ignorant toward family/personal issues, but you're also cornering the market on sheer arrogance. Willy's footwork is above-average. You don't throw 25+ yard back shoulder fades as well as he does without above-average footwork. Probably the most technical throw in football. Did he have great footwork every throw? God no. But there were a lot of things at work. Zone coverage, poor blocking, Willy not checking out of longer developing plays with Ottawa showing overload blitzes... even something as simple as tight coverage on his hot reads can rightly lead you to pump fake and go to your next progression.
  19. Thanks for your opinions... agree with a bunch of them. Have a few of my own: - Grigsby looked good, and to me looked like he was reading his blocks better, but I still think Cotton based on what I've seen, is the best back on this team. Grigsby's start has been excellent, and he doesn't deserve to be demoted when Cotton returns at all. I just think Cotton is that good. - Kelly is no Stegall. That's blasphemy. He might be able to grow into a Robert Gordon in his prime, and that would be fantastic. - JFG fills in admirably for Watson. Sticky hands and high effort. Can play for me all day. - Bucknor led the team in tackles because Ottawa felt strongly about picking on him. Happy that he can tackle, but it says more about Ottawa's opinion of him than it does about his skill. - Etch adjusted very well in-game. Ottawa had game film to work with, we had nothing but studying our own assignments, and individual tendencies. I expected Ottawa to have a better 1st quarter than us. We won 29-7 in the final 3 quarters and that speaks to effective coaching adjustments.
  20. Would be a huge stretch for Peach to draw in LG on a new team, even if we do acquire him tomorrow/Sunday. OL's need time together to gel. That's probably either Swiston or Goossen's start if Greaves misses time.
  21. I could see that conversation in the coaches meeting... "So are we going with Woods, or are we picking... OHHHHHH..."
  22. Isn't a variable WR corps a good thing? DB's have to adjust their coverage for different size guys and route tendencies. Keep 'em guessing as to what's coming.
  23. Willy "holding onto the ball" this game was due mainly to having to progress through his reads against Ottawa's zone D, as opposed to much easier man coverage most of the TO game. Our OL didn't give him the time most QB's would need either. Willy seemed to read the D and make pre-snap adjustments fairly well, but I still saw 3 or 4 overloads (all on longer developing plays) that he didn't check out of, and he was under duress on all of those. If you're going to gripe on Willy, make it for not throwing to his quick hitter on obvious overloads, or not checking out of the play entirely.
  24. How's that for a prediction? Shoulda bought a 50/50 ticket...
  25. You only get the sympathy and understanding of the board if you are a player... I don't see a valid excuse for NOT attending games!
