  1. Teams that have multiple 1st round picks: Arizona - 3 & 30 Buffalo 2 & 21 Edmonton 1 & 16 Philadelphia 7 & 29 Toronto 4 & 24 Winnipeg 17 & 25 jets are the only one that would qualify as "a pair of mid first rounders" though...? Maybe Philly depending on definition. Interesting that the GM would say that seeing as it sort of exposes someone's trade offer and narrows it down to 1...maybe 2 teams.
  2. @cmorganfoxaz: Coyotes GM Don Maloney said one team offered him a pair of mid-first round picks and a player Wednesday evening for the No. 3 pick.
  3. JBL was a great gimmick. But he always sucked. And still does.
  4. If Frolik wants to be here but also wants $5 million, and the Jets feel they need him, two year max. That way he's still tradeable at the deadline and you're not handcuffed long term.
  5. how so? can you explain. You make it sound like the expansion will be good for the jets economy wise (but not so much playoff wise, but then again if the Jets 1.0 and the Thrashers struggled in their first seasons so will the two new teams, and the RedBlacks first season basically proved that expansion teams don't necessarily make the playoffs in the first season (I mean Jets 2.0 did great in their first season, but not great enough to enter the playoffs) Expansion fee is split amongst the owners. It's pure profit for the teams. So $500 million expansion fee divided by 30 teams = $16.6 million. And if they can get $500 million fee TWICE, then it's twice as much profit for the teams. I dont see it as a drag on the Jets' playoff chances either. 16 team make the playoffs whether there are 30 teams or 32 teams. And if anything, they'd have more teams qualify and do that shorter qualifying round. Where it would hurt a team like the Jets is that the Jets are a young team on the rise with plenty of assets and we would certainly lose at least one very good player through the expansion draft. it depends if the draft is weighted in favour of the new teams (trying to help them be competitive as soon as possible) or weighted to protect the assets of existing teams.
  6. If we lose both, I'd assume the Jets would be in on a trade. Maybe comes back around to Sharp when the Hawks give up their ridiculous ask for him. Burmi would also be a potential replacement for Frolik at less than half the cost. Heard Joel Ward's name mentioned too. And Jets were interested in Jussi Jokinen in the past. If they really need to fill a hole, flipping Ehlers to RW is an option but then you're gambling that he's going to be a very good NHL'er in his rookie year.
  7. Im shocked the NHL would care about the CFL but perhaps True North included those dates on their request list. I would suspect True North is involved heavily in the Grey Cup festivities as the IGF concert promoters. Makes sense. is MTSC being used for anything that week? Also, regarding Moose at IcePlex, IcePlex is not a suitable arena for watching pro hockey. WAY too small without the amenities. MTSC is the only option.
  8. @Sweep The Leg - How could I forget HonkyTonk Man. Awesome character. I've had the pleasure of working with him many times in Manitoba. Even took him to Burton Cummings house and have some video of the two of them singing HTM's theme song together.
  9. I wouldnt worry about that. The updraft caused by the heat from the fire would generally lift embers up and away. Looks pretty cool, though small (hard to tell from the pic for sure though). Also, I was under the impression that firepits in the city were supposed to be covered by law? Ofcourse, most people leave them uncovered for a bigger fire but "supposed" to have a cover available There is a cover, but I don't live in the city anyway. Firepit is about 2 1/2 feet in diameter from what I remember seeing. I just thought this would be cool, cause then if I ever want to move it I can just pick it up and move it to a different spot. Price tag is $230 though. Could build a brick one for cheaper. I think I paid $130 for mine at cost (knew someone that was a buyer for a supply company) at a time when they probably went for $200+ (fake marble trim, had a grill included etc). They are super cheap now though. Everyone has a fire pit. WalMart has many kinds for under $100. But if you're a Bombers fan, its pretty cool. But not at that price.
  10. By my count, 12 back to back games. yikes. Also, Moose at the Iceplex? Are you for real?
  11. Bob McKenzie ✔ @TSNBobMcKenzie Door hasn't been closed on return to WPG but free agent shopping period begins today. This isnt the end of the world either way. But Frolik now goes out into the world to find out what he can get. Money/term will be important. But his happiness will be too. If the Jets deal is not far off, maybe he wants to be here. If the Blackhawks offered him a deal (they wont, just saying), he might take a bit less to go there. But now he will know and on July 1st he can consider all offers including the Jets That being said, I dont expect him here.

  13. six game home stand right near the start of the season. Yowza. And in January they play 9 of 10 at home. That will be a critical home stand. 6 of 7 at home in March also. In fact from March 1st to the beginning of April they play 13 of 18 at home and then end the season on a three game road trip. That last 13 of 18 at home to just about close out the season could be a huge difference maker although those last three are against Ducks, Sharks, Kings on the road. An odd schedule with the weird home stands. But I think its pretty good. I wonder if its like this to accommodate the Moose
  14. If anyones most shocking moment when Jeff Jarrett and Karen Angle Jarrett returned to TNA wrestling (last night)....? Anyone? No? Okay. :-)
  15. I goofed. I mis-read the article and applied it to the Spider-man film (since they featured a big pic of the new actor). There had been a lot of chatter about the film going with Miles as opposed to Parker as well. If its the comic, I dont really care. For the film, it would make no sense to go with a Spiderman other than the original. I sort of feel the same way about Green Lantern but John Stewart is more well known, I think, then Miles. Im sort of on two sides. I dont think every iconic white character is racist for being white. On the flip side, when we're talking about characters or actors from a by-gone era, they were almost always white for a reason...and that reason shouldnt apply now. So if someone argues we should be diversifying some of these popular and iconic characters, Im cool with that. But I still think its okay for Peter Parker to be a white kid from New York. With Green Lantern, at least there is an in-universe explanation for multiple Lanterns. In fact there hot rumour this week was that Justice League would include both Hal Jordan and John Stewart.
  16. Do you honestly believe we'd give Buff $9M per? I certainly don't. He said thats what Buff will be asking for, not what the Jets will offer. If Buff wants $9 million, he's gone. I believe Lawless as speculated it would be up in that range too and he's pretty in tune with those things. If I was the Jets and I wanted to keep Buff (rather then seeing him as an opportunity to gain assets), I'd be looking to go 2-3 years at $6-$7 million per and there would be little to no wiggle room there. But I see Buff as someone who's returning assets in a trade would be more beneficial to the Jets then Buff over the next 3+ years (and that benefit increases every year after that)
  17. When it comes to scoring being down, one only needs look at video from the 80's compared to know. How much more net you could see and how goalies play the position. Im in favour of increasing the size of the net slightly. It doesnt change the game when you compare it to the game a few years ago. Expansion will put $16 million (for one team) into the Jets' pockets. Business is business. I dont have an issue with some struggling teams like Florida, per se. You'll always have teams that are cycling up and cycling down health-wise. A team like the Coyotes just irks me. But those low revenue teams act as a drag on revenues and thus on the salary cap. If you're the Rangers or Leafs, you dont like that. If you're a middle of the road team you probably like a bit of a drag on the cap. I guess what you dont want is too many teams trying to get revenue sharing. But if I recall, the Jets have paid *into* revenue sharing the last couple of years.
  18. (CNN)When the first issue of the relaunched "Spider-Man" series hits comic book stores this fall, the face behind the mask will no longer be Peter Parker's. The superhero's alter ego will be Miles Morales, a biracial teenager. Morales was a popular character in Marvel Comic's "Ultimate" line of comics. In that series, he donned the mask after the death of Peter Parker. The new Spider-Man, Miles Morales The "Ultimate" Marvel series launched in 2000 and reimagined other notable superheroes, such as the X-Men, the Avengers and the Fantastic Four. Now, however, Morales will replace Parker in the main Spider-Man series. ***Can't say Im a fan of this...
  19. No Bettman = No Jets. Maybe. Maybe not. But Bettman seems awfully close with Mark Chipman, in fact seems close with Winnipeg. I believe Lawless was the only interview Bettman did during the lock out.
  20. Its been said before but deserves repeating: Bettman doesnt run the NHL, the owners do. Bettman serves at their pleasure. They want more teams, more money and a wider TV deal. Its Bettman's job to go out and do it. He does a very, very good job. Just no reason for him to lie. It's not the point of him lying or not and who he serves. He's not just some robot who serves his masters. He holds his own opinions articulated by his own style that may or may not influence what his bosses want. Regardless, his approach to dealing with professional issues while reporting to his bosses can and continues to rub some people the wrong way. It happens to all of us, some more than others. I get that he rubs people the wrong way with his style. Personally I think he can be rather witty and a good interview. He's done a lot of good for the NHL. I also understand why he lies when it comes to things like the Thrashers moving, Coyotes etc. But to say just two weeks ago "Expansion is not on our radar" when that was a lie is rather silly. It pushes the media away from you because they cant trust you. And any corporation or league wants and needs a certain amount of media trust. he could have said "We are very happy with the overall health of the league and franchises and there have been many unofficial expressions of interest that we will consider at an appropriate time". Done. And while his opinion and expertise influences the owners (to a degree I think Bettman might have been Winnipeg's best friend at the NHL in the lead up to the return of the Jets), he serves his masters. They want the league to grow and increase revenues. When you have people willing to pay upwards of $500 million expansion fees, you formulate a plan to expand. Period.
  21. The Patriot was super over though. Even in WWE, he came in at the right time with Bret doing the Anti-USA gimmick. And Dude Love, I didnt like it at the time but it served the purpose in storyline of making Mick a Vince ally leading to Survivor Series 98 (my favorite PPV from a pure storyline perspective)
  22. This is proven when he tried to salvage the character and introduced.... Super Shockmaster, the nephew of the original Shockmaster (even though it was the same wrestler playing both characters)! Yes and made him uncle Fred (real name Fred Ottman I believe) and he was a clumsy oaf. Reminded me of a local character for, WFWA I believe it was. Cant remember his name but he had a masked gimmick and was a clumsy oaf. He got over with fans so they made the story that he just had poor vision and once he got glasses he was a great wrestler. Ole also came up with Black Scorpion, another embarrassment which used Ole's voice for the promos.
  23. The thing I hate most about expansion is we will lose players in the expansion draft. Lets hope its not weighted to heavily in the expansion teams' favour
  24. Shockmaster was Dusty Rhodes' brother-in-law and he was meant to be serious. Apparently, a piece of wood that he tripped over wasnt there during rehearsals. The voice is Ole Anderson. Ole was an awful booker. The story of HBK ripping on Hogan during that feud was that there was legit heat between the two. Michaels went pseudo heel for the program and was tremendous. But getting either guy to agree to put the other over was the problem. They finally settled on doing two matches (might have been three) with Hogan getting the first win, Michaels the second. Hogan then said "there aint gonna be no rematch". Michaels buried Hogan on RAW the night after.
