  1. That's all well and fine but when a GM makes a move(trade) based on how the rules are set up at the time…and then they change the rules, I'm not sure I like that. Now, it affects us directly. (2nd round pick traded to Sask) I suppose it's still a decent trade…just not as decent.
  2. Not to worry, according to the recent signings, we have our own Tate for him to dislike. LB Kenny Tate from Maryland.
  3. OK, now I won't feel as bad about those new travel mugs and cups the Bombers are selling, you know the ones…Di** is a Rider fan, don't be a **ck.
  4. I see Hufnagel bringing in McPherson as insurance. He has Tate and Bo but, as we all know, Tate has had physical problems, and that would leave only Mitchell as his go to QB. Hufnagel has learned to stock his QB cupboard with guys who have had some experience and there are not too many who can hold that clipboard as well as McPherson. It's a good move by Hufnagel for Calgary. Let's see how Austin handles his situation for Hamilton.
  5. Let's not start that 'chase the big name FA stuff'. That will certainly lead down a road they can't get involved with at this point. A couple of trades, here and there, to solidify a young line up is fine but you're not going to suddenly transform a bottom third level team into Chicago over the period of a year. Speaking of Chicago, Kevin C. spent two years in that Org…..not a bad place to observe. And as for Mark Chipman…now there's a guy who likes to have his business in order before he makes a move. They're going to have a core of players, build through the draft and hopefully make some smart trades that won't handcuff them for the future. They, and the fans, simply can't panic because they are in a very tough conference and, like it or not, it will take a while.
  6. …………………. I think Henry Burris and Kent Austin are playing a mild kind of chicken to see who blinks first. Henry definitely wants to be the starter and based on his past record, he should be. He who shaves infrequently, is hesitant to anoint Mr. B with such title, if only for SMS implications, and is playing his QB cards close to the vest. So they wait and the sand keeps filling the bottom half of the hourglass. Personally, I think Austin would be foolish to let him "walk". That 'vet' presence isn't easy to replace. But Austin does appear to be the type that does things his way, so it still could get interesting. 33 more days 'til Free Agency... *Oh, and in this version of 'chicken', can you guess which car Henry is driving?
  7. CFL Official Feed ‏@CFL 3h HEADS UP! The Winter Edition of the #CFL Scouting Bureau Rankings will be released tomorrow at Noon ET. #CFLDraft And Rod Pederson: * Weston Dressler heads to Kansas City, Missouri today for his first-ever NFL tryout and it comes with the Kansas City Chiefs. The workout is scheduled for Tuesday. * The Winnipeg Blue Bombers plan to announce their full coaching staff by the end of January. (old news) * The BC Lions may be getting ready to say their good-byes to receiver Nick Moore. The pending free agent has worked out for Minnesota, Houston and San Diego. * Montreal Alouettes Coach and GM Jim Popp may be eyeing the vacant GM's position with the Miami Dolphins. * Jim Popp is a season ticket holder for the Carolina Panthers.
  8. Drew Edwards @scratchingpost @ryanpmaloney I think they like LeFevour, Brom & McGee so I don't see them chasing Collaros. A vet back up would help, though.
  9. 2x5 for 10 games in the west means we play ourselves twice. Let's hope we win at least one of those. You almost had me. But... 2w. teams x 2 games =4 the other 2w. teams x 3 games =6, total 10 plus the East teams 2x4 = 8 Total 18
  10. Not quite, the way I described it is the only way to have a home and home series against the East and keep the Eastern and Western rivalries intact. Only the Eastern teams would play some Eastern teams 3 times. I guess we're saying the same thing but in different languages.
  11. Won't every team play each other twice? (8 other teams X 2 = 16). That's only 2 extra games against the West instead of against the East. Hardly a huge difference IMHO. That hasn't been the way they've done it in the past. Ottawa, for example, played the West in a home and home series, 2x5 for 10 games. Then they would play 2 Eastern teams 3 times for a total of 16, with the final 2 games with the remaining team. They would then rotate this pattern every year. The Western teams would play a similar rotation. (2x4 East, 2x2 W, and 2x3W) I haven't heard whether there will be a change in this format. They have always tried to maintain the rivalries in the East and in the West.
  12. When you say veteran can that be interpreted as talented? And when we look at QB prospects with the appropriate skill sets for the CFL coupled with potentially willing/wanting to play in the CFL, is the well dry? Because if Collaros does indeed command a higher than normal salary based on what he's shown and delivered in this league than that tells me the team that takes him thinks this is the case and is desperate. When you say veteran can that be interpreted as talented? Sure, but really what I mean is available. Look at who's been picked up in the last little while….K. Joseph, McPherson, Pierce, Brink and Elliott. That is who has been interpreted, in one way or another, as 'veteran' back up material. And when we look at QB prospects with the appropriate skill sets for the CFL coupled with potentially willing/wanting to play in the CFL, is the well dry? No, I don't believe it is at all, with what we've seen as an abundance of new young guys who did rather well in the league last year. There is one team whose record doesn't shine in that regard but I'll keep their name a secret. Because if Collaros does indeed command a higher than normal salary based on what he's shown and delivered in this league than that tells me the team that takes him thinks this is the case and is desperate. Really we're the only team that can be regarded as desperate, but there are more answers out there than there's been in awhile so to use the term desperate in acquiring Collaros is not accurate IMO. We have options. Collaros has been noticed and will command a salary that will be fitting for a QB with his limited experience in how his salary will be structured.
  13. This was from an outside source. I wouldn't have mentioned it if it wasn't. Suffice to say a number of us saw the same thing but if you don't believe it…well then, you don't believe it. ***** This is not how I saw it, but it's probably from the same CFL "source": "In fact, one CFL source Wednesday said the quarterbacks the Bombers are interested in are very likely Collaros and Willy, with Burris as the wild card." http://www.winnipegsun.com/2013/12/11/winnipeg-blue-bombers-in-a-holding-pattern-when-it-comes-to-acquiring-quarterback
  14. I do remember seeing where it was written the order of interest in QBs by the Bombers and it was : 1) Collaros 2) Burris 3) Willy
  15. There is value in getting and playing veteran players, if (there's that if again) they can perform at a level that will compliment or improve your team to a significant degree. That is not Dave Stala. It's ridiculous that we, as a fan forum, covet a known name and disregard the reason they are available. And, by what I read, he wasn't available to us anyways, so there what's the big deal?….There is none.
  16. Stala signed in Montreal because they lack NI receiver depth and Stala wanted to stay out East. It's that simple. And truthfully, I'd rather have the guys we have coming up in our system and giving them the reps in TC rather than Stala. Also, IMO, both Watson and Etienne have way more upside than Stala, not to mention if we get Kohlert back.
  17. Further to Henry B: Austin said there have been no discussions with quarterback Henry Burris, set to become a free agent in February. “Right now, coming out of the holidays, we're still finalizing our plans at each of the positions and we're looking at a lot of different avenues because it could go a lot of different ways,” he said. “Once those get finalized, and the plans are solidified, then we'll have substantive discussions with the appropriate agents and players.” http://scratchingpost.thespec.com/2014/01/stala-says-hes-not-done.html And Dave S: Looks like Ottawa.
  18. The league has a shortage of veteran QBs. That's probably why Brink, Elliott, Pierce and now Mcpherson have found at least temporary employment. Does Austin have Collaros envy? Over his own stable of young-uns? Maybe. But not without a vet back up I would say. So the question is…would Austin just let Burris go to FA to go after Zach-man?
  19. Burris? On our team? Only if there was an end game to it and a reason for it. In other words, if we fail in our attempt at a starter, a la Zach-man or Willy, and we go with a newbie, then I would have to be brave and wait for him to mentor a younger guy. And yes I chose the word 'brave' for a reason.
  20. Buck's not ready. He hasn't reached that point in his mind where he recognizes when his mind/body is telling him to do one thing and where the other half of his mind/body is saying - no way, duck, go down. Can he get over that? Maybe, but IMO he's definitely not ready to coach because that decision has to felt wholeheartedly, not half-assed. Bravo to the idea of QB coach though and we already we are ahead of last year when we do this.
  21. Jets*Cetera Thought these two looked good side by side.
  22. Annual Player's Poll: Best hands? - SJ Green Toughest player - Mike Reilly Fattest player - P.
