Huff has the same rules in Calgary, Trestman had the same rules in Montreal. It's someone reaching trying to stir the pot. End of story.

I wouldn't be surprised if Milanovich has the same rules as Trestman had regarding the media.

Does anyone know which other CFL teams employ this method of communication?

    Huff in Calgary...

    Milo in Tor? (suspected)

    Jones in Edm? (suspected)

I would guess Austin is the same way in Hammy

In Toronto, they don't control who talks to the media.  They can control the message since there is only one reporter in the room.

  2. The 6 month a year thing really does not fly anymore. It is not the 60's where these guys lived in the city they played and were given jobs that worked around their football.

They train 12 months a year most live far away to live with their families and it's pretty tough to hold down a decent job when you need 25 weeks vacation a year. All in a row, during the summer......

In 2003-04, Chuck Assman (special teamer for Calgary/Toronto) worked at the same company I did before he want back to play for the 2004 season.  The guys can still have off season jobs.

Doesn't Kevin Glenn operate Timmy's in Detroit?

  3. IMO the players don't have a lot of choice.

    1. There are no other leagues that they can work in.  They would have to displace arena league players, and earn a lot less money.

    2. Hamilton and Toronto (and BC) can show historical and recent cash flow issues.

    3. League revenues are nowhere near level across the board.  Saskatchewan can make huge money (fueled by clothing/jersey sales), where other teams are either barely breaking even or starting out (Ottawa).

    4.  42 man rosters and 80 players on each pre-season roster, currently in shape ready to play.

At the ned of the day, I was very, very impressed with the CFL's stance and how it was described in Mark Cohon's letter.

  4. I hate cutting veterans before training camp though, look how that played out when we did the same with Ian Logan. Give guys a chance, though I suspect Muamba wouldn't have fit here. Seems to me it's going to be a defence that is based on everyone making reads on the field and thinking and making good decisions was Muambas biggest problem.

Maybe its  time to bring Ian Logan back?

  5. Home third jersey as our regular homes. The old whites away. That's what I'd love to see. Go back to Old School. Lots of teams have done that. The Argos went back to the old look. The Jets, Giants, 49ers all went back to their old looks. The Packers, Bears, Raiders & Chiefs have kept their old look for decades.

The problem lies with the cheap Winnipeggers.  They'd still be wearing their white / blue jerseys that they bought when they were 22 years old.  Rick House, Joe Poplawski, James West, and Bob Cameron jerseys: from the 80's, all worn out, and a size and a half too small.

The team needs to sell merchandise.  The best way to do so is to change the jerseys/symbols somewhat frequently.

You should stop talking about the NHL and the Jets. The Jets weren't here when they built the True North center, the Moose were.

    Just saying.

no but their owners, True North, were here..the ones who financed most of the arena and who subsequently negotiated a deal with the province and the city upon the Jets arrival..a deal that made sense. No coming back to the city saying hey our business plan didn't work and was completely unrealistic, we didn't foresee these extra costs due to the location of our facility so we're gonna need more subsidies.

Bombers didn't choose the location of the stadium. Location was dictated by the Feds on a condition of funding.

The Bombers did have a choice though.  They and the province could have said no to the feds and and picked a better spot.  As it is the transport subsidies the Bombers are getting from the the city will end up being more than the $15 million they received from the feds.

    From http://www.winnipegfreepress.com/local/millions-to-aid-true-north-141154603.html

"WINNIPEGGERS aren't just cheering for the Jets, they're also funnelling $6.9 million to True North Sports & Entertainment this year through city and provincial subsidies for pro sports teams.

And public support for the NHL club will climb to almost $11 million a year, once the province completes the transfer of 90 VLTs to the vicinity of the MTS Centre."

    "Support systems

PUBLIC funding mechanisms that support True North Sports & Entertainment:

City entertainment tax refund: $5.8 million in 2012

Provincial gaming revenue: Up to $4 million a year, for 19 more years

City-provincial property-tax break: $816,140 annually, based on current assessment

    City business-tax refund: $250,000 annually"

Are these tax breaks even for both teams?

  7. Season tickets are a blessing and a curse.  Season tickets are discounted up to 35%, regular tickets are not.

We have two guaranteed sell outs this year (Riders #1 and Banjo Bowl), so 7 games left.   If the team plays well and the walk up crowds are big, the club potentially can make 30% more money on those 4000 seats.

  8.

It's an outdoor stadium, and the outdoor elements caused damage.  If the club wasn't getting things repaired, that would be news.  Yes this is a disappointment, but should be a warranty repair by the contractor.

As a great man once said, "Non-issue, handled internally. Not talking about it. There we go, we’re done."
