  1. There's so many who can relate. I'm a grandson to a ww2 vet. And my dad has similar stories to what was shared here. My grandfather never talked about the war, turned to alcohol (for many reasons but it started when he got back) and his relationships suffered. This also had an impact on my relationship with my father (as I'm sure it has for many people). It wasn't until I was an adult that these things were discussed openly. But because they were I understand that some of the things my dad said or did aren't conductive to a healthy relationship between father and son, but it was what he knew...it was what he was exposed to. Knowing more, I have been able to adapt my fathering style to my kids. Likewise as he's gotten older, he's become much more emotionally available especially when grand kids arrived. He's said on multiple occasions, that he feels so lucky to have them because he can try to make up for the mistakes he made raising us. These discussions are extremely important to help break these cycles trauma can create.
  2. No, I actually don't think THIS government would do that, as you're right...we know it's not normal and wouldn't accept it. My worry is the normalizing of this with the lack of education around the reasons why. *worst case scenario time* why don't we do this for flu season? It kills people, even children...I've come close to this with my family...So even I'm like...I can see a reason to have a government mandate on visitors during a really bad flu season...but maybe in a decade someone suggests it would be a good way to keep people working etc...so now during flu season these measures are taken...then after that it's for some other reason and so on and so on...until over the course of decades it's completely normal for us to ask the government who we can visit. *worst case scenario over* And yes this is absolutely alarmist, but I'd rather have the conversation or at least acknowledge it then completely ignore it and pretend the government isn't creeping into our homes. I am a worst case scenario person at heart after all. Again I do think that worst case scenario won't play out, I can even quote sources showing how similar moves in the 1920s didn't end up dragging society down that path...but again I won't pretend like it can't happen.
  3. If you're ok with the government restricting who you can or can't have at your private residence, that's fine. It makes me (even though I'm for it, and understand it's needed at this current time) uncomfortable and I won't not talk about it. And yes, I've been saying for a long time these rules are for the idiots among us who don't understand how a virus operates or just basic manners even.
  4. If you think never discussing what happened is healthy. That's fine. I'll speak my mind. I'm not saying we are in the grip of the 3rd reich. I'm not saying anyone is being persecuted. I'm saying the comparisons to how the ball got rolling in 1930 are there, even if they're small and look different. I don't think it's bad to talk about, and I dont think it's healthy to assume the government will relinquish the power it takes.
  5. What did I say that's nonsense? He has to carry those. Did you think the Nazi's became who they were, immediately? I'm not allowed to use the German comparison? When will it be ok? I'm not saying anything really needs to be done, or that those who rallied at the forks aren't idiots. However, I will not be shamed into not speaking about some commonalities these two situations have. The governments are (even if it's for the good) taking an increased role in all of our daily lives. I hope we remember so that when this is over, we can return to the all the freedoms we had and not settle for what this society has become. Because we know what humans are capable of when we don't force government to step aside.
  6. My take too. I don't know why people seem to think he HAS to be brilliant in every aspect of life. He's obviously next level smart. Is he an expert in virology? No...so should anyone take his opinion on it as gospel? Also no. But the twitter universe demands weird things of people at times. I have no issue with him honestly, but I do find it funny when people call him an idiot.
  7. nevermind in America. My uncle in Kenora needs to carry papers proving he's going to....work....just incase he gets pulled over due to the lockdown. That has RED FLAGS all over it.
  8. This is a great practice in theory. But I'm not sure how you think they'd be able to fine everyone breaking COVID rules, when they can't fine all the people who break regular rules. AND as the old saying goes, "if the punishment for a crime is a fine, then it is only a crime for the poor". or something like that.
  9. I do agree with you....at some point people have to stop pretending like we can depend on this government. At the same time, this governments in ability to have any kind of leadership hasn't helped us.
  10. You know ****'s getting stupid when people start arguing about which generation is what....how bout this. You're all idiots! I'm not though....
  11. We will be. People need to remember, it hasn't been a full roll out. Age requirements naturally mean less people will be vaccinated. As that age limit comes down, more and more people will be able to get it. Hopefully our system can keep up!
  12. *Would increase the underground market* There has been an underground tobacco market for a very long time in this country.
  13. That can't be true. I've been told all he does is travel the world looking for foreign football players and scarfs.
  14. that's dumb. Laws don't stop ****. They need to take a look at the long history of prohibition of....literally any substance that has been banned....and see where that leads.
  15. To be fair, those videos exist they just don't go viral. We are a rage addicted society. I was talking about this on the weekend with some family. Everyone is so scared on every side. It's the fearful policing the afraid. No trust on either side. Add in a lack of training and things aren't going to end well more often then they should.
  16. I don't believe there are any options for a better TV deal. That is not where my issue with TSN stands. I do believe they're paying market value....my issue is with the seemingly lack of proper representation on TSN. And I think the CFL brass need to push TSN to do a better job of marketing on their end. This past year and the games that were shown is a prime example, it should have only been the most exciting games throughout the years (i believe there is an issue with TSN being able to show older games though). Not games that are only significant because it was the last game played in the stadium etc etc. showcasing old games that end with a score of 15-9 is absolutely unacceptable and I genuinely hope someone was dragged under the bus for that. This weeks twitter issue is another prime example of TSN forgetting that the CFL is their partner. No global draft coverage, little to no Canadian Draft coverage, allowing NFL products to be showcased during a CFL draft etc etc there are examples after examples of TSN just underserving the CFL. If the CFL really wants to be taken seriously, they HAVE to force TSN to take them seriously first.
  17. 4 (1) Winnipeg Blue Bombers — Les Maruo, LB, Japan The first Japanese born player to ever start in Division One college football, Maruo spent much of his childhood in Wichita, Kansas before going to UTSA. He’s a mean, violent linebacker who moves really well and will instantly be a core special teams player for Winnipeg.
  18. You should check out, A Colony in a Nation by Chris Hayes. Real easy read, and discusses similar topics. But yes you are right, the system is not broken.
  19. 1. Where did I say it wasn't? 2. When have I mentioned the color of someone's skin? Maybe it's the timeline that isn't getting through to you. I'm not talking about during a sentencing process/court case etc. I'm talking about after all of that. The criminal has been caught, the criminal has been sentenced....then as a society/charity/non profit/police force/social programs etc etc. You can examine what lead to the crime. Example: I worked in a neighborhood that had an incident happen. Incident was, after school a group of kids picked on another kid, this continued on for weeks...leading up to the one kid eventually being locked in a shed, and that shed was then set on fire. (thankfully the kid inside was able to get out before they were seriously hurt.) The kids responsible for doing that, we held responsible and punished. BUT AFTER THE INCIDENT...the community got together and said enough was enough...these things can't happen here. HOW CAN WE AVOID THIS IN THE FUTURE....it was determined that kids in that area/community had very little options when it came to after school activities...which in turn led them to hanging around and finding things to do which often led to disruptive behavior or worse. So the community along with a non profit organization started an after school program for kids in that community. Violence and vandalism dropped dramatically in the community. It didn't stop all together, but it got much better. AND because we (as a society) know, that people who have been hurt, are more likely to hurt others...counseling was provided to the bullied child to help them get past it, without hurting someone else (Not that it was 100% determined that the bullied kid would hurt someone else, but we know that often, hurt people, hurt people....so we intervened just incase.). "Well if the bully's had proper parents, they should have stepped in, avoiding the entire situation." This is correct, and in an ideal world what would happen. Unfortunately, we don't live in an ideal world and there are plenty of reasons why those specific kids didn't have adequate supervision during those hours. Some of those reasons were and continue to be related to societal failings of the past...which I can again give examples of, but this is already getting to be a very long post...about a subject I said was no longer worth discussing.........but here I am.
  20. I've been saying it for years. TSN does the CFL no favours, and often hurts the product more then it helps.
  21. It's not about taking their background into account when considering punishment...ITS NOT ABOUT EXCUSES. ITS NOT ABOUT PUNISHMENT. ITS ABOUT PREVENTION. No one thinks they shouldn't be punished, they should be. It's understanding how they got to a point where they murder, and how we can put things in place/fix things/change things etc etc so the next person who is in a similar situation won't make that choice. In terms of imprisonment, our society whether you like it or not very rarely sends someone to a true life in prison. Which means basically everyone who goes to prison, is getting out at some point. As of today, a good portion of those people will be sent back for committing a crime. But...we know from other examples, that it doesn't HAVE to be that way. Society can welcome people back into regular life with a better jail system, and better supports once they leave jail. It won't be 100% successful...but we can do better. To recap: It's not about creating excuses for those who murder people. It's about understanding what happened in their life so that maybe...just maybe...we (society/systems/family structure/whatever the ****) can pre-emptively help people who may be dealing with something similar, so they don't end up killing people. Yes, not everyone who struggles or has a **** upbringing/life kills someone...that doesn't mean we should just stop trying to improve things. I really don't know how else to explain this.
  22. It's been explained multiple times that no one is excusing the choice. He's just being Tburg at this point. There's no point in continuing the conversation.
  23. 99 riders 1 everyone else.
  24. Jesus this might be the most pathetic way to look anything that I've seen in a very long time. "I can't imagine a possible solution to any problems, so there's no use in trying!" Yeah @17to85 explain to me on this internet forum how you would "fix" these immense problems facing our society....I'll wait...lol honestly what do you want him to say here? I'm not even going to start arguing. But I 100% think people who see the world through this type of lens are useless.
