  1. I doubt that Masoli is coming here, he himself says he wants to stay in Hamilton. Plus it makes more sense to sign Nichols or Zach since they are familiar with our team and I'd assume come at a slightly lower price.
  2. I was wrong, looking at the stats though he had great passing yards in 4 of the 5 games. Willy diminished because he was shell shocked and beaten up. Nichols also had good stats with LaPo when he first started... but after getting hurt it's regressed drastically.
  3. Drew Willy didn't play under LaPolice. A more fair comparison would be him and Joey Elliott feuding... my memory of Elliott getting pissed because LaPo calling a conservative play when we needed big yards....
  4. I'm no expert, but Peterman seemed to catch whatever that went his way and would grind hard for those extra few yards. He played very physical, similar to Wolly. This is why I would assume either of those guys at SB would make more sense since this is where they could easily help us get those tight window first downs. I never understood why a guy like Whitehead who is all speed would line up to only run 5 yards and then get crushed or pushed around and not make the completion. I'm not sure if Whitehead was lazy or lacks talent, but my Madden 95 knowledge would be to send the fastest guy deep in a one on one situation and lob the ball to him with the assumption that he will out run the coverage? I'd think higher rate of success doing that in comparison for him to catch the ball and deke and outrun a bunch of guys who only a few feet away? Hamilton (aside from the Grey Cup) seemed to find ways to get Banks open down field with his speed.
  5. PLAP called plays for Streveler to sit in the pocket and throw the ball under 10 yards or in the play offs call every single play to be a run play with Strev either taking it himself or handing it off. The one time he called a passing play it did fool Hamilton because literally the previous 30 plays he was given was a run play. Pierce (we hope) would call plays that would have Streveler moving the pocket and throwing on the run. We hope Pierce wouldn't call 30 consecutive running plays. When Strev started those games in his first season it was a decent balance of run and passes which kept Montreal off balance. LaPo fell in love with the bull rushing run plays and kept running with it over and over again. This is why I don't think Strev is a good fit in Ottawa and neither will Masoli be. Masoli became infinitely better in Hamilton once they changed the offense and used his strengths. Masoli had great success running to the sideline buying time and having lb'ers dropping from coverage to chase him and then for him to loop balls over their heads to the receivers coming back.
  6. He had numerous seasons where he had under 1000 yards passing. If we are going with small sample sizes then why not hire Dinwiddie as he had a 450 yard game once upon a time. Pierce was beloved because despite having a crap offense and crap coaching, the guy would get smashed over and over and would use every ounce of energy to get back up and then run head first into a defender just to fight and claw for a first down. He never complained , never pouted, never made excuses and gave it his all. I will always remember when he came back as a BC Lion and the Bombers were losing big time and BC put Pierce in at QB. Our hometown crowd were cheering him getting first downs against our own team. The camera panned to him on the side lines and you could see how touched he was with by the city. I'll always remember that moment it was awesome.
  7. I would disagree... I found with the receivers that he rarely ever used the strength of each receiver. I found the opposite where he tried making players fit his system then fitting the system to the strengths of the receivers.
  8. No he didn't. His best season with the Bombers he had 14 TD's and 18 ints. He also only had 1 good season with BC. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Buck_Pierce I loved the guy as a player and he put his heart on the field, but I think your memory of him dominating might be skewed. Khari had a tonne of big games... Buck played with a tonne of heart and with a crap offense and laid it out on the field. Big time heart... wouldn't classify him as some QB rifling big bombs down the field.
  9. Also why do people think Nichols would suddenly retire just to be a QB coach? If the Blue don't want him , every other team will at least offer him back up QB money with incentives.
  10. At least he isn't with Saskatchewan! As for Buck Pierce being a gun slinger... he had a lot of heart but it's not like the guy was throwing bombs when he was playing (healthy). Danny McManus was a gun slinger.... Pierce was more of a LaPo type of guy of the short passes and moving around the pocket. I'd assume his familiarity with the offense that he wouldn't make many changes. The million dollar question is can he game plan against defenses, make changes on the fly and can he talk his qb into throwing passes more then 5 yards down the field. As for LaPo .... I'm curious to see who they bring in as QB. I hope he gets 2 seasons at least to help right the ship since it's such a mess.
  11. So with this news is Lapo our O-Coordinator in 2022?
  12. That was starter money.... I don't see him making that much cash as a back up. Collaros will be probably signing for that kind of cash maybe a tad more.
  13. It's not like he has a noodle arm like LeFevour or Goltz... the guy has shown that he can throw the ball.
  14. 1290, I think it was Farhan Lalji who was talking about it with the afternoon guys.
  15. On the radio they said that most likely Nichols won't even be ready for the start of the season. That's concerning...
  16. Anyone actually listen or believe anything Pederson says? The guy isn't connected at all.
  17. Big difference is Collaros showed that he can play when he mattered and against the best teams.... Nichols track record has been super iffy. The risk with Nichols is that we don't know how further deteriorated he is at this point after this last injury. Collaros has shown that right at this moment he can play and play much better. I'd say the risk with Nichols is higher. Also with Nichols it's clear that he's on a steady decline physically and is not the same player as he used to be. He physically can't make plays unless he has perfect protection. Both guys are stop gaps and high risk.
  18. I understand players having a change of mind, but to quit on the team is not cool. I wouldn't call myself leaving a champ when you quit on the team. Not honorable at all.
  19. What's the story of him leaving the team? Was he hurt?
  20. It's not surprising that this team would not want Maas.... the personality is way to strong and opposite of what O'Shea is.
  21. On 1290 Maurice explained that they like his face off and defensive game. They talked about Gus probably going to the juniors and how depleted the moose and jets are and that this is a low risk move. He's not being brought in to score .
  22. What kind of contract should the club offer? $250 + a lot of bonuses?
  23. Absolutely both Collaros and Nichols are guys that are one hit away from retirement. Both I would not see as durable at this point with their own issues and would not be a guy to hitch your future on. It's unfortunate that Strev did not progress on his passing game as it would make this decision so much easier.
  24. But where does his wife work.... won't that be the determining factor?
  25. In fairness Nichols did beat Calgary with a whopping 177 yards passing.... against Arbuckle and a massively depleted defense riddled with injuries and while playing at home with nice weather... totally the same as playing against BLM on the road with the defense mostly healthy......
