It's not ironic at all...that's how it works. The team is playing with WAY more confidence, having Pavelec in net. They know they have a guy who's going to keep them in the game, so they're gripping the sticks so tight, worried that one mistake is game over.

If Pavs stays solid, and more importantly, if the team keeps playing with confidence because he's in there, Maurice will run with him...

that's definitely a big part of why Westerman's numbers were way down. Other teams were able to key on him and effectively take him out of the game, because nobody on the other side was really effective. There were issues on the DL last year, but there's nobody on this board who knows enough to say whether that was coaching or talent...
