My understanding of what happened to Ledger was that he was really messed up from this movie and was having trouble with his sleep. They got him on some meds to help with that and he started taking more and more of them and eventually too much. For anyone that might be interested, the HBO "I Am Heath Ledger" doc on Crave is awesome.

Ehhhhhh.... Here's the thing. Jen fluked her way through the Trials. Fleury and Einar are the two best teams right now, and both Elina Paetz and the British girl who just won Gold are also right there. The truth is, Jen is just about done. It should be Kait's team now. I'm sort of hoping that Jen calls er quits after this season and Kait takes over the team for the next quadrennial.

Nichols had a really bad I jury in Edm which is the only reason he was buried on that team. His production dropped off after that injury, unfortunately. But lucky for us because he completely revolutionized our offense. -

If you're not willing to block as hard as you play the rest of your game, you aren't going to FI on a MOS team..... -

that's an old one...been told a bunch. Cal refused to spend any money on anything (complaints of having to "wear Mack Herron's jock strap" were common) and the players would have to go over to Polo Park and buy their own socks at Sears. Cal just wouldn't spend a penny on anything. The exact opposite of Wade, who has no problem making sure the players have everything they need... -
media have taken a beating lately, but the reporters on the ground and the hosts in studio have done incredible work, IMO, to bring this info and these images to the masses...

Steve Armitage is calling it a career.... a lot of jokes have been made about him over the years, but the man really is a national broadcasting treasure. He's had some incredible calls....
-
Ya I was surprised that he was leaving just to leave. I assumed he had another gig lined up. Good for him. Get that stink of fhim as soon as possible.

I'm not super familiar with how it all works, but most of the PBP guys at TSN are freelance, to a degree. They have a contract with TSN, but they also have side hustles in the States, for example. So I think there's precedent for a little leeway for podcasts and the like.

I was driving last summer, toward the beginning of the season, and decided to listen to their broadcast on Sirius and I didn't hate it. It was a bit "loose" for my taste (he and Mullinder were goofing around a lot on air....way more than Bob/Doug would) but it was solid. In terms of polish, he's around the same place Dustin Neilsen is, so it's not bad. I'd be willing to give him a shot, if that's what the folks at Corus Wpg are deciding. I still think there's a good chance he's headed back to T.O. to work for TSN again. I'm not sure Marshall Ferguson really worked out for them last year, and also not sure how long Rod Smith wants to keep doing PBP. There's a fit there, for DT to step into a TV PBP role.
-
to clarify, I am not saying I think he's a great PBP (I have no insight on that) but that he wanted it very very badly the last time around. I was told that he nearly walked out on them when he didn't get it last time. Now, maybe the in-broadcast hosting they have him do (similar to what GMack does during Bombers radiocasts) is enough for him.... we shall see.
-
100% this.
-
this is an interesting and accurate statement. With PBP, you want to build toward the big moments, so fans know when it's REALLY important. Not even just within a game, but within a season. You're not AS excited during a call early in the season as you would/should be toward the end of the season...you're building, in theory, toward playoffs. A couple things, in relation to all this.... I expect Michael Ball ("Ballsy" from CKRM's sister station The Wolf morning show) to be the lead candidate for the gig. He wanted it worse than bad the last go 'round, but they didn't want to take him off his current gig. He'll make a big push, I expect, to take over this time. And with DT....his wife/girlfriend/partner works in media as well. Was with Global Regina.....so her job is a consideration for wherever their landing spot is. As has been speculated, it's either Toronto or Winnipeg for them, I suspect.
-
I agree with what you're saying.....but I think the difference would be what's expected from the CKRM vs what's expected from CJOB. There are different expectations from the fans of each team...I really believe that.
-
very interesting.....I didn't see that coming, but it would make sense. I don't *LOVE* Taylor's PBP, but it's not the worst option out there. I really felt like it was GMack's gig if he wanted it....

my KN95 (a base layer in a 2-mask system for me) is excellent. And anyone who says that a 3rd dose of vaccine doesn't do anything is just dumb and possibly ignorant. Getting your booster shot is HUGE in terms of protection. The data is very clear.

Got a close contact at work test positive today. I'm triple vaxxed and wear a KN95 any time I'm not on the air, so my fingers are crossed. Did a RAT tonight and was negative... Will test again this weekend.
