when he scrambled guys weren't open. Trust me I was in the stands I saw it, there is a reason he threw those balls away. It was a horsecrap passive gameplan and it's overly simplistic to blame the qb.
-
That's just the easy answer though. You actually look at that team and you can see that while the roster may be imperfect, there is more there than the coaches were getting. Case in point, last year everyone blamed the poor PP on Woodcroft. He was the assistant who had that job so makes sense right? Except the PP looks like the same crappy thing in Edmonton this year while Woodcroft looks like a revelation as the AHL head coach this season including a dangerous PP. Meanwhile the assistant coach the Oilers hired from Swift Current who supposedly is a bright PP mind isn't even being talked to about the PP. Mclellan isn't a horrible coach, but he is a horrible fit in Edmonton and the results speak for themselves. Especially when you consider the obvious disconnect between GM and coach on the roster.

Attention Lapolice! Please Stop Calling Predictable Plays

Did you go to the game? He didn't have a lot of options to throw to in that situation. This is on Lapo more than anyone. Yeah Nichols didn't have a great game, he missed some guys, had some drops, but you know what? Calgary dealt with the same things from their qb and receivers, the difference was they gave their qb a chance to make plays. Lapo didn't. Lapo tried to let Andrew Harris win the game all by his lonesome against the top team against the run. The guy is a smart man and understands offense in the CFL, but he is horrible at judging how a game is going and calls an infuriating game more times than not. He is capable of being great, but too often he is his own worst enemy. -
No the parallel is there. It was the same refusal to try and up the offensive game when it was clear that it was needed. Yes they're different teams in different places, but it was the same thing from Lapolice. I get it in 2011, but not this year, but he did the same thing. Expect the D to bail him out and hope that not making a mistake is enough to win. Doesn't work that way when you're playing top teams in the CFL.
-
Maybe on Peterman or Simonise, lots to be seen on those guys yet but not Demski. Dressler is a tough little dude and Demski avoids contact like the plague.
-
Totally. You play not to lose against Saskatchewan that's one thing, but even when he plays poorly Mitchell isn't going to hand you a game. You need to beat a team like the Stamps in all phases. We have a team that is capable of doing that but Lapolice crippled the offense with the passiveness.
-
Didn't we win that game? in fact Nichols went 4-0 when he came back from injury didn't he? Hard to see where you're coming from here. Nichols slump happened in late august/september.

Bombers will lose people, everyone will, difference between the Bombers and Riders is that the Bombers have depth.

what mclellan? He needed to go. his only coaching was throwing McDavid over the boards and hoping he'd do everything. when your PP sucks ass with McDavid, Draisaitl and Nugent-Hopkins on it it's pretty clear the coaches aren't doing their jobs.
-
I mean we do need an upgrade at our american receivers, but Lapo is by fair the bigger problem.
-
In the game because the defense was ******* good. They got 2 points on a safety, they forced a turn over deep in our own end (which we promptly punted back) and kept giving the offense chance after chance after chance, which Lapo refused to take. That's how it's similar, not in the score, but in the fact that the offense had the exact same mentality. "Don't **** up and let the defense win the game for us" It's the reason we fired Lapo last time. Same **** different year.
-
lapo.
-
And the Bombers kicked a 57 yard field goal and then another field goal in the first quarter and the stamps dominated the rest of the game. It was exactly the same kind of game. Ultra passive offensively waiting for the defense to win it, same as 2011. It's what Lapo does. For all the smarts the guy has he calls an absolute **** game most of the time.

it isn't a mistake to roll out. stamps did break down the middle enough, they are a good DL too. need to give guys options. Or give him some quick hitters, but the game plan made it too easy for the stamps to defend. -
Walters needs to improve the american scouting a bit and keep drafting well. I am OK with his work. Love O'Shea, hate Lapo. replace Lapo with someone who isn't a coward and I will be happy.
-
Oh based on what? The qb situation they got figured out? The money they're going to have to spend to keep that D intact? You expect your team to score as many defensive points as they did this past season? The Riders are the prime candidate to regress next season.

I just don't get the idea that Dressler isn't worth the money... he was our best receiver all season long and Nichols clearly looks to him when he needs a play. How is that not worth the money?
-
My view from the stands says Calgary D played well but our offense didn't even try and make it hard on them. We played right into what they expected and really only made them cover about 10 yards of field. Didn't even try and push the ball downfield other than the one play where Streveler had Harris deep but missed him. Until under 5 minutes left that is. That was the difference really. The Stamps made the Bombers defend the entire field, the Bombers didn't do the same. I can live with a loss when you try your best and come up short but the Bombers offense rolled over and prayed for the D to carry the day, but BLM ain't going to turn the ball over, you actually have to go out there and beat him. The D did an admirable job and Lapolice and his passive bullshit wasted that effort.

Well I started to pay attention to what options Nichols had after all the throw aways... There was no one out there for him to throw to. Mostly it was Harris short with someone right on his ass in coverage and Adams deeper down the field in what would be an iffy throw on the run for a guy without an absolute cannon of an arm. So yeah, **** Lapo for not giving Nichols any help when he leaves the pocket. And **** the receivers for not helping him either. Lapo gotta go. -
sign dressler and someone better. guy was still our top threat at receiver so losing him doesn't upgrade us at all
-
Because Adams stopped ******* running his route and Nichols expected that he'd keep running like a receiver should do. Seriously that one was on Adams.
-
Paul Lapolice everyone. Seriously I said it before I'll say it again, we will never win a championship until we replace him.
-
When he rolled out there were 2 options to him. Harris for the dump off, who was always covered because the Stamps did their homework and knew that covering Harris was priority one and option 2 was usually Adams further downfield also being covered. This team has a problem helping their qb out when he rolls out of the pocket and I think it's by design. So yeah, I'm blaming Lapo for his passive crap. Same **** as when he was head coach here. Playing not to lose rather than playing to win like the Stamps did.
