A year away from what? Starting? I'm not sure he'll ever be a very good guard but he's really raw and he should develop rapidly. I think he'll be a fine centre, and that's where they are developing him. There's no one to deal for, and the list of no one is going to keep dwindling with injuries. I think you'll see a fair amount of 3 import OL's through the course of this season around the league.

Bombers Trade For Abraham Kromah
JuranBoldenRules replied to M.O.A.B.'s topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
Not happy with Kuale? I'd be PO'd if they take Wild off for Kromah. -
I'm swooning for Cotton...but over Grigsby.

Special teams specialists. All apples. Woods is a receiver too. Have we used any DI's on offence? Didn't see Cotton out there last night. Is Unamba playing defense anymore? He was terrible in the first two games when he saw some snaps. He's basically a specialist now too. There are 4 DI's. A guy who does all returns should be pretty easy to fit on the roster, especially if special teams are a priority, which they should be. First and foremost, we need somebody who is going to make positive plays for us, first step in that regard is to secure the ball. It's too important to play around with. Calling Woods a one-trick pony was ignorant, completely disregarding the importance of special teams. Especially ignorant the day after a 1 point game in which 6 opposition points (which could have pretty easily been 14 given where the drives started) came directly as a result of flubbed punt returns. Woods is a terrible receiver...Unamba is an American who's only good at special teams coverage, which is more of an example of why we should get him off the roster. Stoudermire is a good returner, and is capable of filling in for Unamba as well as being a back up DB. Why would we need to back up receiver with a DI when we have good Canadian receivers? We have zero good Canadian RB's and frankly, Cotton looked a hell of a lot better than Woods on KR's anyway. Why waste a DI spot on woods when we can have just as good returning and add better depth to the roster as well? Let me know when we have just as good returning with someone else. Haven't seen it yet. Cotton and Ford can't handle punts. Washington can catch punts sometimes, careless with the ball. Stoudermire wasn't a punt returner in college. Can he catch punts? Catching punts is a skill in itself. We can't have two turnovers a game just so we have a guy who can stand on the sidelines and wait for someone to get hurt to play O or D. If Grigsby gets hurt first quarter, our offence will be screwed if we don't have a decent back up.... Would be a good way to get Willy hurt with the opposing defence teeing off on himDI'ing Woods just to catch punts seems like a waste. We really should see if Stoudermire can do it first. (Doesn't have to be in a game) Washington and Cotton are both better at returning kick offs Seems like a waste? If Drew Willy doesn't lead a last minute touchdown drive last night we basically lose a game because we couldn't catch punts. Come on man. The point isn't just in front of you, it's kicking you in the face.

Bigger concern on that one is Sears. None of our DB's are going to win that race downfield. Looked like they were in cover 1 (safety only man deep) and Sears was way late to read that wheel route, which was the only deep route the Als ran on the play. He reads that and gets on top of that route, it's nothing.

Goossen is being massively overrated here. I wouldn't start him anywhere but centre, he showed he's not ready to get isolated blocking one on one against Ottawa, at this point he's a good speed bump. Think of how badly Neufeld struggled last night when Montreal was stunting. Goossen plays hard, but he's not ready for that.

That's actually a pretty good idea, if the coaching staff is set on getting Cotton into the game. I still really like Woods, but he is a bit of a one trick pony and that might limit his chances of staying in the lineup on a consistent basis. We should take the kickers off the roster too...one-trick ponies.

10 plus at least 2 dropped passes. They needed to get Cotton involved IMO, don't really care about how they used Grigsby. Benched a great returner (which almost cost us the game) to put Cotton on just to return kickoffs? Absurd...

Bomber Depth Chart Week 3 vs Montreal
JuranBoldenRules replied to Jpan85's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
Lavarias playing MLB? Bet he'll be rushing the passer 90% of the snaps. -
Similarly inaccurate and reliant on scrambling.

Popp's twitter account is hugely embarrassing if he's actually sending out those tweets. If Kyle Walters was tweeting like that, I'd be embarrassed.

I wish they'd get rid of everyone on the panel but Dunigan and Lapolice and actually talk about the football game they are covering. -
Bomber Depth Chart Week 3 vs Montreal
JuranBoldenRules replied to Jpan85's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
Second in the league on punt returns (total yards) .. and averaging almost 10 yards a clip on his returns .. he's also fielded more punts than any other returner to this point (15, next closest is 11) Fourth in kickoff returns (total yards) .. middle of the pack with respect to kickoff return average .. What's nice to see is that Hajrullahu is leading the league in yards per kickoff .. 66.8 yards .. it's nice to see teams working with a bit longer field this season. 3rd in punt returns among regulars, 4th in kickoff return average among regulars. I'm not a fan of removing Woods. Cotton did not catch a punt in pre-season, let them all hit the turf, had one nice return off one he let bounce and roll. Washington is either going to make a big play for the Bombers or one for their opponent when he's returning. Risky move IMO when we have a guy who is not only safe but a consistent threat. I could see Denmark or Feoli-Gudino end up returning punts after a few hit the turf. -
Early Top 10 Ranking for 2015 Draft
JuranBoldenRules replied to Jpan85's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
Draft the best football players (obviously need to put some thought into whether their NFL chances) and sort it out. Don't mind stocking up on traditional NI positions (OL, receiver, DL) after the third round, but you're handicapping your team if you draft for position earlier. -
Aaron Woods? Ya, I'm thinking Canadians.

Sounds like Kelly is playing so Carter will continue to back up. How is Cotton getting on the roster then? Everyone in the media seems pretty sure he's going to play, I'm starting to wonder if he's just being added to the 46 in place of Anderson going on the 1 game IR.

Early Top 10 Ranking for 2015 Draft
JuranBoldenRules replied to Jpan85's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
Ahh...I was wondering how so many CIS guys were rated that high, kind of wondering where Boyko was too. This is going to be a tough draft to navigate with NFL interest. -
He'll be playing receiver if anyone gets injured in Montreal.

CFL Week 3 Winnipeg vs Montreal Preview
JuranBoldenRules replied to USABomberfan's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
Unless one of the guys on defence gets hurt. Then what? Alexander and Louie Richardson get to play more than they will anyways. Dan West and Derek Jones are also options. If Thomas goes down, it'll be exclusively 30 fronts I'm assuming. I'd really like to see the Bombers auditioning some NI DL on the practice roster, interior ones specifically. -
Gavins fined for dirty hit on Drew Willy
JuranBoldenRules replied to gbill2004's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
The 2010 CBA says nothing about being able to appeal a fine - just the procedure for appealing a suspension. I don't think that's changed but I'm not certain. Doesn't say a lot of things in the CBA or league by-laws that are league convention, such as the maximum fine being half a game cheque. Doesn't say anything about third party arbitration for suspensions or fines either, just that a player can appeal the penalty back to the commissioner and the commissioner has the power to remit any penalty. Traditionally, the appeals have gone to a 3rd party. The league has tried to move away from this the last 2 CBA negotiations, but haven't been able to get the players to agree to any alternative to this point. -

The players can appeal fines using the same process used to appeal suspensions, third party arbitration. Just not as blatantly obvious as when you have a "suspended" player who plays 1 or 2 games during the arbitration process, falls off the media radar. -

Willis fined for hit on Collaros
JuranBoldenRules replied to gbill2004's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
Incidental head contact is still head contact. Plenty of options for how Willis could have taken down Collaros on that play. Football is partly about making the right decisions. He made the decision to aim above the chest the way he did. To me, if Willis runs at Collaros the same way but secures him using his hands in some way, maybe the league doesn't fine him. This is absolutely on target IMO. A tackle is a hit and a wrap. That was a hit and a launch through the player, not a tackle. If you rise up in your wrap and make head to head contact, that's incidental, when you rise through with your head tucked and crown launching up and forward, that's an attempted kill shot. You just don't tackle with the crown of your helmet forward like that and your chin tucked, that's extremely dangerous for the defensive player too.
