Making the league look bad: item #2837
I honestly believe that the only reason Jones is "better" than someone like a Mike Kelly is that he literally had Mike Reilly fall in his lap. He walked into a job with the best QB in the league at that time. Jones has no respect for this league or this country. It is pitiful. He can't or won't learn the lessons and listen to good advice. He literally gave away the wind in the long quarters on Sunday, which basically ended up being the difference in the game as we got a FG to end each half.

Chris Jones Post Game
There should be more of a concern for that guy's mental health than anything else. Holy crap is he deluded. It's a game. Has this guy lost touch with reality? Or is this all a gimmick?

Labour Day Classic Pre-Game Thread: Depth Chart, etc
I think it's hard to keep more than one of Smith and McDuffie on. McDuffie has unique skills in terms of speed but isn't the most polished. Sheppard can play a role that Lapo loves. Might be moot with Adams, but with Smith ready I think our best lineup is Denmark, Dressler, Smith and Sheppard. Might try to DI McDuffie to rotate in but that means taking someone off the DL or special teams.

Official LDC GDT: Game Day, We All Play!
Didn't lose the game in the trenches. Lapo didn't give his guys a chance to win it in the trenches. Harris should have carried it 25-30 times.

They don't ask how, they ask how many. But Lapo needs to grow a pair and get that ball over the line.

Yep...finally made some plays on O.

Good win. Hopefully a bit of a wake up call too. Those kind of wins are huge for building a team though.

Bombers Release Kris Adams, Add National OL Alex McKay
It's D-Line. Stay in your gap and work upfield is the scheme. Butcher could barely get out of his stance before he lost the down. Nice knockdown though.

So far his strength is staying on the roster and contributing very little.

Are you assuming Butcher is a better player than Tennant?

Mulumba-Bilukidi watch
Once players reach a certain seniority level they can't be placed on the practice roster in the NFL.

Castillo, Scott and Jace Davis Released
Find it weird that McDuffie stays on this week and Mayo goes out, Davis gets cut. McDuffie brings nothing to the offense, guess we really need the kickoff returns.

Castillo, Scott and Jace Davis Released
Sheppard is great on special teams. Cutting Davis is shocking to me. He has a ton of potential to play that inside slot/H back type role.

Nik Lewis
He's been targeted 84 times. Nobody on the Bombers has been targeted more than 53

Nik Lewis
Don't really see a need for Lewis. He's not that good anymore. We have better guys who will be sitting out soon. The fact he has a prominent role in Montreal speaks more to why they are struggling than his ability currently IMO.

Lawless says there is trade market for Willy
Mitchell, Reilly, Collaros, Jennings, Ray, Harris are easy. That's 6.

Lawless says there is trade market for Willy
Calling our OL for the first 5 games "subpar" is being extremely generous. It was horrific. The receivers haven't been that bad even down to Mayo and Davis. Denmark is a #1 receiver. Adams and McDuffie are relatively useless. The OL trumps the receiving group all the time. Look at the average gain on 1st down between the OL's. You or I could play receiver with this OL and our team would have a chance to win. Can't begin to compare Nichols and Willy in 2016 until we can see them behind the same guys.

Lawless says there is trade market for Willy
Exactly. The absolute best thing I can say about Nichols is that he hasn't turned the ball over. Other than that he's been bad to average, especially in the past two games. There have been long stretches in 3 of his 4 starts where getting a first down was a challenge, even with a decent running game and a lot of time to make reads. Lapo's play calling has a hand in that too. If Willy was afforded the assets Nichols has had in his 4 starts I don't believe he'd be any less productive and there's a good chance he'd be more productive. To me it's just a matter of time until this is Willy's team again, ride the hot hand and keep them both as a tandem.

McDuffie is going to have a hell of a time staying on the roster. I don't think you can hang onto a guy who's major contribution is simply kickoff returns. He doesn't even go back for FG returns. He's brought nothing as a receiver, he'd be way down the pecking order.

Bombers @ Alouettes
I don't believe Lapolice is the guy to optimize any QB either, so I wouldn't fully blame Nichols for the amount of points/production of the offense.
-
Bombers @ Alouettes
I feel like we should be getting more out of the QB position given how the OL is playing. I appreciate Nichols avoiding turnovers for sure, but he's been about a C+ the last two games on the whole.

Fixing red zone efficiency.
First thing to do is actually take some shots at the end zone. I hate, hate, hate when we run two plays inside the 20 and don't even have a route going into the end zone. It's literally 50-50 between getting a TD/PI or having an incompletion. Be more aggressive. Also need to run more or at least run those swing pass plays on first down, not 2nd and 10 in the red zone.

John Bowman
Montreal was doing late and unnecessary crap to our ball carriers pretty much every down. Venable and Hebert could take a 15 or objectionable conduct pretty much every down. If there's ever a team that shouldn't complain about refs it's Montreal.

Riders @ Esks
Neither of these teams are particularly good.

And Foketi. Better than Hardrick.
