Traded for a top 2 QB in the league that was tossed aside for scraps.
-
It sucks because Lawler is a very boom or bust receiver and Schoen is/was just a consistent reliable guy that you want, but the way Collaros plays he's not going to go for the easy yards to Schoen and wants to throw the risky deep jump balls that Lawler was a much better fit for.

Eli at slotback

People complaining about our receiving depth, all sleeping on Tui Eli
-
Jokes on us. That pick was meant to be a 60 yard curl. Throw was dead on for it.
-
Collaros arm strength is cooked. Hasn't thrown a deep ball that wasn't underthrown in the past season and a half.

I don't disagree one bit. BUT this is only logical when you consider a standard football team roster makeup. Most of the time you dress your starting offense, starting defense and then your best subs for each who also fill special teams. In O'Shea's world, there are 3 equal units. In his mind, he dresses his best Offense, his best Defense and his best "Special Teams" (5-8 guys that he thinks are best at teams only) and then fills the rest of the chart with whatever to make as balanced a roster as he can. This is why you see stupid things like 15 linebackers dressed and 3 Canadian DTs as the only backup DL. In O'Shea's mind he actually has 3-4 LBs, 5 STs "Starters" and then a couple backup DL to fit with the ratio after all 3 of his other units are said and done. I don't agree with it, and its usually suboptimal for rotating guys on offense or defense, but O'Shea has alluded to this and if you look at it through that lens, it explains his decision making with some of the puzzling roster moves.

Jake Thomas coming out party. Big breakout coming up. They say it takes at least a decade to get comfortable so now we’re seeing the payoff

This. When I suggested sitting Sterns and hiding an extra Canadian it wasn't a knock on Sterns. I actually liked his play in the preseason, he made a couple catches in traffic and held onto the ball. Its just that when we roster that extra american OL and decide that we're going with Jefferson, Vaughters and Adams as the only 3 true american DL on the depth chart, its absolutely mindboggling how dumb the roster usage is with american spots.

Another easy swap is to roster Cobb over Stearns, start Corcoran as the decoy/5th receiver (at least while we have 3 imp OL) and get Woods or Person onto the roster for DL.

Blue Bombers - 2025 Regular Season - Discussion Thread
Jets replied to Atomic's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
Gonna be curious to see what they do with the ratio this week having so many Canadian DBs injured. If they want to dress Castillo, Mitchell (SB/KR), Adams/Woods (whoever doesn't start) and 3 of Jonathan Jones, Tony Jones, Ayers, and Kyrie Wilson at LB (2 starters, 1 DI), they don't have enough DI spots to also include Griffin as an extra SAM/DB like in past. I wonder if they just go with Cadwallader, Gauthier, Jaylen Smith and Connor Shay and then have Tony Jones and Kyrie Wilson both sit. -
I heard he stubbed his pinky on the plane back to Winnipeg and unfortunately it will cause him to be on the 1 game IR until it will miraculously heal when Olivera gets nicked up.

got the build of Blo-De Dorzon, but hopefully the talent of Joe Smith

I'd argue Hansen was at worst a very good special teamer and arguably a decent 3rd-4th DE in a rotation set. A big reason we had so much success the previous handful of seasons was because we had Hansen and Kongbo as effective subs behind the Jeffs. Although outside of him, the global program is more or less a failure. It's basically just eliminated the jobs of Canadian punters and turned them into Aussie spots.

Yeah I don't hate the guys we took, but it felt like Findlay or Shand would've been a higher upside play at positions that made a bit more sense (Canadian Safety or DL) instead of Smith. And at our first pick I also like Newell as a better fit or ideally, move up a slot or two to get Shanks - who is probably the only real top end difference maker OL of the group. I don't think we reached or outsmarted ourselves with the picks we made, just the guys were both safer picks at positions that we don't necessarily need anymore Canadian depth (or future Canadian starter). I do agree that Shay could end up being one of the best players from this draft though, its just interesting to see how he fits given our recent glut of American LBs.
-
This is exactly how I see it too. Although we can always use LBers for teams, we drafted 3 more Canadians when we already know we likely aren't cutting Gauthier and we have Cadwallader as a ST footsoldier and 4 americans for the 2 Mike and Will spots. We didn't need a Canadian at that spot other than a mid/late round special teams plugger and we used up our top 2 slots for them. Although they could both become starters, neither will be right away and the path to how they become starters is unclear. The QB pick is wild and hard to get a read on. We also have 3 American QBs that we will for sure roster and at least 2 more fighting for the third string/PR depth QB spot so its tough to see where a raw Canadian guy could fit with that group... The rest are low upside ST plugs/depth OL/depth pieces at DL and Receiver. Nothing to wow you about, but like you mentioned, I don't see more than 1 maybe 2 potential good "starting" calibre upside guy and we could've used a couple of higher risk higher reward types to replenish the Demski/Olivera/Fords (gone) of the roster.

So Matt Sheridan
-
We're in range for our annual token Bison pick too
-
Phew we drafted a LBer in round 5. Thought we weren't going to be able to grab any LBs
-
We picked a small, slow receiver. But don't worry, he can't jump either.
-
Yeah kinda bullshit you need another TSN subscription on top of your TV TSN subscription to watch it. Growing the game and making it more accessible and whatnot...
-
How does Elgersma get on the roster with all of Collaros, Streveler, Wilson, Dolegala and Patterson around competing for 3 spots.
-
Probably LBer
-
Yes, but hopefully this means the end of Kyrie Injury Wilson and Shayne old man Gauthier on the depth chart. We can't keep 8-9 LBers around
-
Hmmm. So.... Tony Jones (Am) Kyrie Wilson (Am) Michael Ayers (Am) Jonathan Jones (Am) Connor Shay (Nat) Jaylen Smith (Nat) ...for 2 potential starting spots?
