I'd move on from Lawler if we could only pick one of him or Schoen. Rather have the consistent 12 yard guy than the one 50 yard bomb spectacular catch every half.

3 turds plus crappy honker. Long winter edition.

The Argos seem to lose a few of their good guys to free agency every year the last couple years and every year they find a few more new guys to take their spots and be effective. We seem to have the opposite problem where we keep holding onto guys way past their primes and get to watch them fade away into nothing and be ineffective (Alexander, Taylor, Thomas, Willie - although he was actually good in the cup game, Bighill, Zach, Kyrie Wilson, Sheehan) all are below average at this point and not getting it done anymore. -

WEEK TWO GAMEDAY THREAD - BOMBERS @ REDBLACKS

How many losses will it take before they stop saying "yeah we'll burn the tape on that one and get em next week" and actually make some bigger changes? My bet is at least 4. -

I'd be fine starting Kramdi at S or SAM if it meant we could roster another american on DL or OL. We're getting beat in the trenches again pretty badly. -
3 turds plus crappy honker preseason game 3

Hubris is exactly the word for that one. Years of "player x doesnt need to practice" "player y is a pro, he doesnt need reps in the pre-season" "we dont need to use that rule, and we can start 8-9-10 canadians because we're so great" has finally come home to roost...hard. I hope this isn't the beginning of the end, but its starting to look like "just one more year" of running it back without any competition or contingency for the aging out of veterans has finally come back to bite us. It could be a long season - I hope I'm wrong, but I'm worried. -
You'd think maybe its the slight competitive advantage - now other teams have 1 less day to pick up a guy from our TC they liked that could be cut loose and integrate them. OR they now have 1 less day to gameplan for playing against player X on our roster in one of our open position battles prior to week 1... ...but at the same time, we're the last team in the league to try and game the system and utilize every inch of advantage (ie starting extra Canadians for the heck of it, refusing to use the naturalized Canadian spot), so it doesn't make sense that we'd be so concerned with any advantage to announcing cuts. Most likely its what everyone has already suggested - we're just too "loyal" and don't like airing our business out until all the hurt feelings have been addressed internally.

Hopefully Bloi-Dei Dorzon shows well tonight, and I'd watch for Jon Oosterhuis to have a bigger role in the offence this year.

Offer Schoen 1.2M over 5 years, 200k signing bonus, 100k salary per season and 100k paid out as a roster bonus each season. Make some history with a long term deal, huge upfront cost, but cheaper over the long term.

they dubbed him "Batman" since they didn't have him on their roster sheet apparently. But that's better than just closing their eyes and picking a name, which they were seemingly doing every other play. I'm pretty sure the first pass thrown to him was kind of behind him in traffic that he let fall through his hands but then made some nice plays on the last 2 drives of the game.

According to the pbp they just won the grey cup
-
Well if nothing else at least today we saw a nice sack by Liam Dobson, a quick handoff to Jake Kelly and some tight coverage by Chris-Ike
-
maybe with Sask having Harris, Fine and Pipkin they'll let Patterson go and we can scoop him. He had a couple nice throws in his limited action.
-
I hope they let Dobson throw a few passes as well

Myron "Jonny Augustine" Mitchell

Nice sack by Liam Dobson on defense! also that colour comment "he was so offside he might still be offside next play" was actually gold
-
If you're having troubles with the stream buffering, pausing and running it about 20-30 seconds delayed seems to work a lot smoother.
-
Gabe Wallace looks massive, and that sack looked like head contact on the QB

I'm also an elite athlete, my body just hasn't ever responded the way I want it to

We're longing for the days of Darrell Hackney lazers and Ramonce Taylor kick returns ripping up TC

If we're moving on from the Gauthiers, Millers etc on special teams, a vet guy like Thomas to play specials and spell off the occasional play at DT for Lawson isn't a bad thing, even if the plan is still to bring in a NAT DE (Kongbo) as well. One of Lawson and Kongbo playing 85% of the snaps on the DL with Thomas and Anthony Bennett playing the other 15% isn't the end of the world.

The big kick in the nuts with the Kolankowski contract is simple. It's no secret they're trying desperately to find the money to keep Olivera around (else he'd be signed right now) and Kolankowski was probably the most obvious "vet" to let walk with an internal replacement. From an on-paper fan POV, it's as easy as subtracting Kolankowski and one of Neufel/Gray and replacing them with Eli and Dobson, then rostering a new young guy as the 6/7 and saving a bit of cash. Pretty much any other veteran FA we have, there aren't nearly as many internal options to replace them, if any at all. That's the main driver of the Kola contract hate. It has little to do with whether he's an average starter or whether he's being paid like a middle of the pack OL or a bottom end starter. Plus there's also the last 2 seasons of doing the same thing and seeing the same results (losing in the grey cup) and an obvious place to try something new was the interior of the OL, which showed more cracks last season than it has in any of the previous 5.
